If you were made a millionaire tomorrow, what would you do with the money?

Anyone ever thought about it? 😁

Use some to set up a trust fund for some, I also have no Idea how I would do that.

recklessgran · 17/04/2023 22:27

Half to get us a nicer house than we've got now - would get a fancy 4 bed detached with sweeping drive and 2 ensuites as a minimum. The rest I'd invest and use to help our 5DD's with their mortgages/life and I'd give up work for certain [Already past retirement age] . After that I'd go on a few holidays to all the places I've always wanted to go.

NinaCampbell · 17/04/2023 22:27

Northern Ireland 😳

CleaningOutMyCloset · 17/04/2023 22:29

Pay off the house, pay off the debts and retire early

onitlikeacarbonnet · 17/04/2023 22:31

I’d buy a new house for around £350k.
I’d spend about 5-10k fixing the issues in my current house with the intention of renting it out for a few years till the dc are grown.
I’d take the kids to Greece or Italy for a couple of weeks as we’ve not been abroad since I split from their dad.
I’d book a massive villa in Florida for next summer and invite friends and family to join us if they want. (Next year to give people a chance to save up as £1m unfortunately not enough to pay everyone’s flights) Might do an extra week somewhere in the Caribbean just for me and dp. That’d probably be £50k.
Doesn’t leave much but what’s left would be spent on the kids. They don’t don’t ask for much and I don’t get the chance to treat them often.
If I had £5-10k left to spend on myself, I’d get a tummy tuck and boob lift. Loads of loose skin and sagging from weight loss and old age 😂

GlassBunion · 17/04/2023 22:31

My adult children are in fantastic jobs but live in rented accommodation which costs more than a mortgage.

I'd be sorting them out.

I'd be sorting out a wet room for my disabled mum too.

Anything left over would be spent on a couple of shrubs in our garden to hide an ugly corner built by the neighbours at the back of us.

emerald1981 · 17/04/2023 22:33

I would buy a house and have a nice family holiday. Then be very content to have a home for life Smile

Fromage · 17/04/2023 22:34

I would run away. Properly disappear. Go live miles from where I am now, and start over.

Lasouthpaw · 17/04/2023 22:35

Move somewhere more rural. Pay for my son's education from prep to university.

Buy a new car each.

The rest we would save/invest and use to take our son on adventures as he grows up.

defsilent · 17/04/2023 22:36

I'd pay off our mortgage and probably go out for a nice dinner and then carry on as usual - with maybe a big grin for a while.

Wallywobbles · 17/04/2023 22:37

Renovate the barn, including new roof. Turn it into a proper workshop for DH. Put in a v small covered pool. Travel a bit.

This was actually my first thought too 😔

Eyesopenwideawake · 17/04/2023 22:40

Spend a third, save a third, give a third away.

fungalmaiden · 17/04/2023 22:43

Buy a little place with a view of the sea in Dorset or Devon.

TheNine · 17/04/2023 22:45

Decent house (but not massive), 15-20k plastic surgery, and the rest towards a huge motorhome

Troubleroundthecorner · 17/04/2023 22:46

Half to charity, half to pay off mortgage and invest for kids’ futures.

slowsundays · 17/04/2023 22:47

House outright (you can get a lovely house in this area under 500k)

A nice car that'll last for years

A family holiday

Driving lessons for me for said car

Build a studio in the garden of new house

Put what little is left in savings.

Moonchild18 · 17/04/2023 22:50

I'd buy a house
A new car and one for DH
A holiday abroad
Clothes shopping spree, without feeling guilty for buying myself something
Put some money into the kids trusts funds, so they can do their driving lessons and buy their first cars.
And a I'd probably buy another dog

AgrathaChristie · 17/04/2023 22:52

10% to a few small charities I support.
60% to dc to pay off mortgage
30% I’d use towards moving to an area I’d be happier in. Any left, a holiday and money for dgc.

Would you really not rather give a poor family of humans a leg up, than some random dogs? Obviously I know it's yours to spend as you wish, but that really makes me sad that there are families living in abject poverty, who could have their lives absolutely transformed with a better home.

Dogs have emotions, families, lives and hearts too. The fact the poster would spend half of their million on rescuing other living beings speaks volumes, regardless of species. I applaud them.

No I'd rather not, having housed my brother and sister with 50 percent of the money. What an odd response to a thought exercise. Very happy to help lots and lots of dogs.

CharlotteDoyle · 17/04/2023 23:02

Clear credit cards
Finish home refurb
Set aside some cash for DC
Upgrade the cars
Buy some art
Take a few luxe holidays

Not sure £1m would be enough actually

Crucible · 17/04/2023 23:03

Thank you @UnwantedOpinionBelow. Very gracious of you.

TicTac80 · 17/04/2023 23:05

I’d buy a house with 500K and save the rest. I’d carry on working, because I love my job and who I work with. Once kids are older, I’ll volunteer with MSF.

Hoppingmad231 · 17/04/2023 23:12

Invest it or open some business so 1 million soon becomes 2.
