What would you do with £1 million?

If you were made a millionaire tomorrow, what would you do with the money?

I don't actually think a million is a lot of money. Where I live South East a normal house is about £600,00-£1.2k

Plus there's about 10 cars I want.
A holiday or two
A few dogs
Plus set my 2 DD's up

I’ve a list of things I kinda want to splurge on, I can afford them, maybe not all at once! But I’d buy them ALL! And I’d spend a whole day booking a beautiful holiday to somewhere really special.

A million would only just get me a basic three-bed detached house round here. So, that. I'd still be delighted. But there would be absolutely nothing left over.

Pay off the mortgage, buy a slightly bigger house, have a nice holiday and invest the rest. I don't think it would be enough to live off the interest but it would certainly be a nice supplemental income or allow someone to reduce hours or do a less stressful job.

One million would be absolutely wonderful. 2 flats, one for my brother and one for my sister. The remaining 500k all on rescuing dogs and paying rescue vet bills all over. I'd be happy with that.

My mortgage is paid off, so I would keep half and spend some on the house and some on travel and nice things! The other half I'd split between my two children.

What's interesting though is that I would want to spend some on a personal trainer. I could probably afford to do that now and yet I don't.

Would you really not rather give a poor family of humans a leg up, than some random dogs? Obviously I know it's yours to spend as you wish, but that really makes me sad that there are families living in abject poverty, who could have their lives absolutely transformed with a better home.

@bumblethump thanks why should I scroll past? I'm entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. Absolutely not a stealth boast, just saying in my opinion a million isn't a lot of money. If you are in Scotland a million would buy you a lot more I'm sure.
It's just facts.

Sell our house and buy a slightly larger one outright. Invest some money for DC, visit my brother in Asia and my father in Oz, bung some to charity.

I think about it all the time, possibly too much.

I'd buy 2 flats, one for each child, we live in London so that's all it would cover but at least it would make living around here affordable & get their feet on the housing ladder. Both are still students so we'd have to let them until they could afford their own bills.

Have someone come in for 2 hours every day.
Change the beds once a week, make the beds every day. Retrieve all of the crap that’s left lying around and stuffed under the bed looking at you teenage DC open the curtains and windows, hoover round, pick up the wet towels that are lying around & either dry them or change them.
Then do an hour’s dusting, rotating round the house.

I’d say 3 hours a day but I don’t want someone in my space that long.

Or maybe I should send DC’s on some sort of intensive training camp so that they’re not scruffy little beggars.

I’d use it to finish our house (new kitchen, convert garage to home office/gym and then I’d invest the rest so that I could retire in 5 years

I'd pay off my mortgage, I'd pay off my DD's student loans, a new car, trip to Oz, take the kids to NYC, and pay people to decorate my house and do all the sodding jobs that I can't afford to do. I'd treat my wider family too. Oh and a new boiler, mattress and sofa. It would make life a whole lot easier and I'd be very grateful!

Prob a nice holiday with parents and kids and the rest invest to make an income. House paid off already so outgoings relatively low.

I have no mortgage, we've spent the last few years doing the house up and I'm not ready to start again, so I'd probably just stay here. I'd probably retire earlier than expected and do a bit of travelling.

I'm not sure. Probably pay off my mortgage at least and my car loan.
Go on some nice holidays.
Invest the rest.

Even if in your area 1 million only buys an average house it means you are mortgage free. that instantly gives you at least £2-4000 a month more, every month for years which then gives you other choices you can work less, holiday more etc etc. If you are over 50 it is enough to retire on probably depending on life style.

Very cliche- but a house, particularly next door as they have it for sale.
book holidays to Florida , LA & New York
do an intense driving course
put the rest in savings
also pay off the rest of my debt
