How do you get dressed when it’s chilly?

I’m currently sitting in my big fluffy dressing gown, building myself up to getting dressed.

I’ll put my pants and trousers on under the gown, then sort of shrug it off my shoulders and drape it over my head so I can wriggle into bra and vest top while still blanketed. Finally, I’ll take a deep breath, fling dressing gown off and squeal like a piglet as I put sweater on as fast as humanly possible.

Not cold enough for heating but too chilly for getting dressed Sad What do you do?

I always get dressed straight after my shower, preferably in the steamy bathroom!

bellac11 · 14/04/2023 08:18

I just had this conversation with myself, I have a shower every morning and the 3 yards from the bathroom to the bedroom are excruciatingly cold.

FurAndFeathers · 14/04/2023 08:19

Where are you living that it’s so cold you squeal? Confused

North West. It doesn’t have to be particularly cold. I just hate the feeling of getting dressed in anything less than tropical temperatures basically.

Have you got a radiator? I put my clothes over one for 15 mins before getting dressed when it is proper chilly.

Bemyclementine · 14/04/2023 08:23

I think I've acclimatised to the cold. It's 13.5 in my house this morning, I'm in a nightie. I remember thus struggle when I was younger though.

mynameiscalypso · 14/04/2023 08:23

I put my socks on first, I find that helps a lot. Then I do something similar to you. We have a v cold house!

carriedout · 14/04/2023 08:28

Being cold for the minute or two it takes to get dressed wouldn't even register with me, unless it was seriously freezing.

Phoebo · 14/04/2023 08:30

Either very fast, or put a heater on! If it was that cold, to really notice, I'd just put a heater on.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 14/04/2023 08:31

Normally.

I'd rather be cold for a few minutes than faff about under dressing gowns.

Faffing under dressing gowns is totally normal for me. It’s rarely comfortable weather for getting dressed in this country.

Conversely, I have quite a high tolerance for the cold once dressed. Just not while dressing.

Don't you shower first? I don't get how people can do this.

LittleFreakJezebel · 14/04/2023 08:40

This is one of the only times I'm thankful for having electric heaters rather than central heating, I put the one in the bedroom on as soon as I wake up, lovely and warm within 5/10 mins so I can get dressed without freezing!

As476 · 14/04/2023 08:43

Same as you OP. My kids do it too. DH thinks we are bonkers 😂. If I shower first then I have the towel on with my dressing gown over the top, then continue as OP does once I’m dry.

I like bobbling around in my dressing gown for a bit after a shower. Or sometimes shower the night before if I have a tight schedule the following morning.

I take my clothes into the bathroom with me and just get dressed in the warm room after my shower.

ThreeRingCircus · 14/04/2023 08:44

I just do it quickly. I may keep my pyjamas on and do PJ bottoms off, trousers on then pj top off, fresh top on etc rather than getting totally naked first but essentially I just accept I'm going to be a bit cold for a minute or two and dress as quickly as I can.

Pahpahpotato · 14/04/2023 08:46

You sound like my drama Queen DH 🤣 every single morning through the winter we get the whole ‘oooooh it’s so coldddddd’ rigmarole. Given his way I think he’d take the duvet, worn as a cloak, into the bathroom to change… it’s the warmest room in our old farmhouse.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 14/04/2023 08:48

Just put your clothes on! Your way sounds exhausting!

Skyeheather · 14/04/2023 08:51

If it's too cold to get dressed then surely it's cold enough to put the heating on? Why don't you put the heating on for an hour so you can get dressed? Still got our heating on in Central Scotland, it's not a crime.

wineandsunshine · 14/04/2023 08:56

I'm with you! In the colder months I have to warm up my clothes on a radiator for at least ten minutes and then speed change.

At the moment, if the sun is shining, I stand in the warm patch and attempt to get dressed 🤣🤣🤣

It's a serious job being a cold person!
