Just wondered what people thought of this ocado ad?

Ocado advert (pic) - thoughts?
OP posts:
SalaDaeng · 13/04/2023 04:47

I think that is unnecessarily nasty. Childish.

HalftimeRain · 13/04/2023 04:54

Pathetic and nasty. No doubt they think it’s clever and some others will too but I don’t like it.

MangoBiscuit · 13/04/2023 04:59

I don't understand the reference, so it just sounds odd to me.

MichelleScarn · 13/04/2023 04:59

How many people are still going to get that? It's a pretty shit niche 'joke'.

@MichelleScarn thank you.

Still sounds awkward, like someone trying very hard to be funny.

Ffsmakeitstop · 13/04/2023 05:27

I thought it was just sexist at first and somewhat creepy (selling women) but the Beatle's reference is just nasty.

stilldumdedumming · 13/04/2023 05:29

@MichelleScarn Linda died still married to Paul, I thought? Cancer wasn't it? She was a pioneer in veggie convenience food. I saw an interview with Stella McCartney saying sometimes they have one of mum's pies for dinner, meaning they buy it from the supermarket- I thought that was lovely!

stilldumdedumming · 13/04/2023 05:30

@MangoBiscuit and people thought Heather Mills was just after his money. I'm not sure how anyone would know that... I think it's a shitty advert.

Podgedodge · 13/04/2023 05:34

Linda and Paul did not divorce. She died after a long struggle with breast cancer.

HuntingoftheSnark · 13/04/2023 05:34

I thought it was horrible. I only picked up the reference because I buy those sausages pictured, and Heather was so vilified by the press.

That’s very sweet. So sad that she died so young. Cancer is a bastard.

I was veggie in my teens and loved her food. My daughter is veggie now as a teen and also now eats her food so is aware of who Linda was, but wouldn’t have a clue who Heather is. I’m sure lots of younger people wouldn’t.

Terrible ‘joke’.

Linda died after a long illness. Paul was absolutely devastated. I remember seeing him talk about her in a TV interview and he was in tears.
I think his relationship with Heather was a poor decision but grief makes people do strange things.

Linda died, cancer, no divorce.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/04/2023 06:25

How absolutely weird and creepy. I would be kicking up a massive fuss if I were Heather Mills. I think Macca should fire them a warning shot if he's got any sense.

Tessisme · 13/04/2023 06:28

It took me a few seconds to understand the Linda/Heather reference. That is in extremely poor taste. I can't believe that whoever is responsible for Ocado's marketing thought that was ok. It's like a sick spoof.

CurlewKate · 13/04/2023 06:28

Says something about their demographic🤣. Or how they see their demographic....

Just a bit unpleasant IMHO. (The ad, not the demographic.)

AnyFucker · 13/04/2023 06:31

Unpleasant and un necessary

Shame on them

BCBird · 13/04/2023 06:38

Not funny

Circleoffifths · 13/04/2023 06:39

It’s really unpleasant.

And apart from anything else not exactly up to date. Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

mildlydispeptic · 13/04/2023 06:51

Sounds like the same tone deaf copywriter Labour hired.

Toomanybooks22 · 13/04/2023 06:59

Honestly don't think it's that bad it's referencing celebrity culture and certainly don't understand how it can be compared to the Labour fiasco of that recent advert.

ClaudiaCustard · 13/04/2023 07:02

They've gone all Aldi style advertising

UncomfortableSofa · 13/04/2023 07:05

What a cheap shot to use Paul's personal life to suggest they don't give inferior replacements.

I hope the LMc brand give them hell for this.
