Just wondered what people thought of this ocado ad?

Ocado advert (pic) - thoughts?
OP posts:

No, the link works for me, shows an ad on the FB page just as OP posted.

sashh · 13/04/2023 10:22

What's worse is that Paul and Linda have a daughter called Heather.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 13/04/2023 10:23

It's nasty and sexist.

DeadButDelicious · 13/04/2023 10:31

It's definitely real, it popped up on my news feed this morning. Aside from it being an extremely dated reference it's just so nasty and mean spirited. Pitting women against women is not a good look and I certainly won't be shopping at Ocado anytime soon.

monsteramunch · 13/04/2023 10:35

It's so spiteful and nasty.

If I was on the PR team for the Linda McC brand I would be fuming that a retailer had done something so hugely off brand.

I can't imagine they (whoever is behind the Linda McC brand) signed this off so I imagine there are some very awkward conversations happening today.

Baffled that this went through a number of people at Ocado to get approved and actually set live.

xogossipgirlxo · 13/04/2023 10:39

Completely unnecessary.

Gothambutnotahamster · 13/04/2023 11:20

Nasty, unnecessary and sexist. I will complain as it's out of order.

ohyouknowwhatshername · 13/04/2023 11:28

To be honest I didn't understand it until I read the comments here. I think a lot of younger people won't get the reference at all.

I suppose it would have been better if they had been rude and misogynistic about the dead wife and ex wife of someone younger people have actually heard of, eh?

No of course not, I think the advert is awful! Was just saying it's not even a very relevant topic.

TimeForMeToF1y · 13/04/2023 11:57

It seems to have gone now so presumably someone with some common sense has intervened

Have all the sensible marketing staff from Ocado, Anheuser Busch, Olay etc been sacked and replaced by people trying to ruin the brands?

beguilingeyes · 13/04/2023 12:10

Would be good if Paul threw his lawyers at them also, although I expect they've got plausible deniability.
Off-topic but when we watched Get Back last I was struck by how beautiful young Linda McCartney was. She just glows.

It seems that way! I've read about how Bud Light has lost billions so far - I'm hoping that's real and companies realise that women matter and can have a significant impact!

Tessisme · 13/04/2023 12:26

Ah, fair enough @ohyouknowwhatshername😊

IClaudine · 13/04/2023 12:40

Glad it was zapped. Very mean spirited of Ocado.

GoodChat · 13/04/2023 12:44

I still don't get it after the comments. Are they saying Heather's a shit substitute for Linda?

Pretty much!

newnamethanks · 13/04/2023 13:31

That ad is in extremely poor taste. I'll stick with Waitrose.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 13/04/2023 15:31

Rubbish asvertising as it does lend itself how everyone has interpreted it. But Heather Mills actually owns a rival veggie brand (thats fully vegan and actually better with many products) v bites.

Ocado did sell v bites products last i shopped with them. There's a teeny tiny chance maybe this is what they meant? But unlikely as tbh not many people know this fact.

Backtoblack1 · 18/04/2023 07:19

I think it’s appalling and in terrible taste.

I remember a men’s magazine printing something similar about Paula Yates and Helena Christensen in the 90s.

Misogynistic bullshit.

StopStartStop · 18/04/2023 07:33

Offensive.
