Is it real?

MichelleScarn · 13/04/2023 04:59

How many people are still going to get that? It's a pretty shit niche 'joke'.

I got it immediately,it's appalling. What on earth were they thinking?!

IClaudine · 13/04/2023 09:05

I don't think it is real. Tried googling it, nothing came up except this thread.

Do you have a link OP?

Escapetofrance · 13/04/2023 09:05

Awful advert. Not funny or clever.

RampantIvy · 13/04/2023 09:10

I think we have been had.

IClaudine · 13/04/2023 09:18

RampantIvy · 13/04/2023 09:10

I think we have been had.

Agree. It is not real.

AutumnCrow · 13/04/2023 09:18

Fake

IClaudine · 13/04/2023 09:19

Some sad sack has faked it and put it on FB.

rainbowstardrops · 13/04/2023 09:22

Bloody hell. I mean, I'm glad it's fake but who the fuck has nothing better to do than shit like this?

ExtremelyDetermined · 13/04/2023 09:33

That is a pretty nasty thing to do

LBFseBrom · 13/04/2023 09:37

I haven't a clue what it means. I receive email adverts from Ocado, had one yesterday, but not that one (unless I haven't noticed). If it bothers you, ask for an explanation. It's obviously some sort of code or in joke but means nothing to me. The only link between the two names that I can think of is late and ex wives of Paul McCartney (and Linda McC started a brand of veggie food which you can buy in any supermarket), however the two women were around a very long time ago and I doubt Ocado means anything like that, it's too obscure.

I'm off now to check my Ocado emails just in case. If I do have one like that I will email them and ask what they are on about.

Speedweed · 13/04/2023 09:42

That's a terrible ad:

  1. Women aren't there to be ordered, we're not prostitutes, and Ocado isn't punternet.
  1. The reference is so old - paul and Heather divorced in 2008 (I looked it up). Lame.
  1. They could have just said 'if you order carrots, you'll get carrots, not onions', and it would have the same impact so nothing has been added by having a dig at these individuals.

So it's fake? Some people are just sad little shit stirrers.

Tessisme · 13/04/2023 09:47

Oh, ok, cross posted. My previous comment upthread stands then. Or not😬

Shit, sorry OP. I really thought ut was fake. How crap of them.

Toomanybooks22 · 13/04/2023 09:58

RampantIvy · 13/04/2023 08:54

@Toomanybooks22 TBH I'm struggling to understand why you can't see how mean spirited this is.
Bullying dressed up as banter is never OK, and it looks like most of the posters on this thread would disagree with you as well.

You said in your reply to me that you hoped they would be sued, I enquired what you thought they could be sued under as I don't believe any of the parties referred to in the ad would have an action in law.

I just think it's interesting everyone saying "I hope the sue" without actually saying what legislation / offence they think they should be suing.

IClaudine · 13/04/2023 10:00

It is odd though. When I click on the main Ocado page the ad is not there as far as I can see, even though it was only posted 21 hours ago?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/04/2023 10:05

If this is real I will complain. I've been an Ocado customer for nearly 20 years. They are on shaky ground with me today with this claim about substitutions as for the second week running they've sent me Heinz beans instead of own brand, at double the price. This doesn't happen much but you pay full price for the item you didn't order, so it can be expensive.

Plus there's the little issue of it not even being true!

Lottle · 13/04/2023 10:07

@IClaudine I know what you mean. I assume it's an ad targeted at me as I'm veggie.

This exactly. It's sort of crowbarred in and it's still shit and dated.

I don't get the Covent Garden soup bit? Is that something to do with Heather Mills or LM?

The thing is, I do use Ocado because things are rarely missing or substituted (apart from pandemic times) but this leaves a nasty taste.

Zonder · 13/04/2023 10:10

Despite OPs link I can't actually see it if I go to the Ocado FB page.

Lottle · 13/04/2023 10:13

@Zonder I assume posts and ads are different. Not sure though
