So I’m 18, my bf is 17. We’ve been together 3 months, friends for a long time before that. A few weeks ago the condom split, now I’m a week late on my period. I should’ve got the pill but I had one a few weeks before and was told I shouldn’t have it too often so I went to the toilet after hoping it would come out. I was planning on getting the non hormonal coil soon. I’m always due between the 27th-3rd. Checked last month and it came on the 3rd, it’s now the 10th and still no signs. Yesterday my right boob kept hurting and they look a bit bigger but I might be imagining it, I’m getting weird random twinges in my stomach, really vivid dreams, I'm so tired I’m struggling to wake up in the morning after even 10 hours sleep, generally just feel tired like I don’t want to go out and do anything, I’ve been really sensitive, I never cry but I keep feeling teary over small things, and I’m gagging when I use my vape sometimes which never happens, I also feel rly faint every time I wake up. I did a test yesterday and there’s a faint line but I’m not sure if it’s just an evaporation line? I live in a supported accommodation so my situation isn’t great and I’m just really stressed because my period is never this late. I’m going to get more tests tomorrow. :(

You need a coil or an implant, I'll tell you now that having a baby at your age with no money is fucking HARD. Been there.

Yes this, been there and got the tshirt, shes 13 now.. I adore her but growing up while raising a baby is the hardest thing. Learning who you are while also being mum is overwhelming as fuck.
Hope you get the result you want when you see the GP

SleepHygieneHelp · 11/04/2023 20:43

Hi OP.

From your symptoms I would have said it sounded as though you are pregnant but then saw your update with the test which looks negative to me.

First of all, don't panic. If it turns out you are pregnant you will be early enough along to have options, whichever you decide.

I may be reading your original post incorrectly but have you had the morning after pill recently? As that can mess with your cycle too

Jellifulfruit · 11/04/2023 21:28

Keep us updated tomorrow. Definitely looks negative Right now, I’d expect a much darker line at a week late x

If it helps, illness can delay your periods so you might have a bit of a combo of a slight virus and PMS.

Alternatively, my boobs continued to grow in size until I was about 24. That was often accompanied by tenderness and soreness. Growing pains basically.

Good luck either way.

Helenahandkart · 11/04/2023 22:57

I just wanted to say that if you are pregnant, and you don’t want to be a mother yet for whatever reason, then there is no shame in having a termination.
I had one when I was 19 and I have never regretted it for a second. It was the right thing to do, and has not negatively impacted my life in any way.
Abortions are almost always depicted as a negative situation by the media, but for many women they are the right decision.
Don’t make any decisions in a hurry. There are lots of resources out there to help you, but there’s also a lot of pressure to have a child, and a lot of the counselling services have been infiltrated by religious groups and pro-life organisations.
I hope you get the result you want, and make the best choice for yourself.

yipitsmesunshine · 11/04/2023 23:22

I hope it all works ok op x

Highly unlikely you're pregnant then.

Highly unlikely you're pregnant then.

Yeah so I’m gonna make a doctors appointment to find out what’s causing my symptoms

I once had 3 months of missed periods. All negative tests but felt like I was having all the symptoms. It was just stress related and my periods eventually started again. But was so strange feeling all these symptoms, even such bloating so I looked pregnant, but was all my head manifesting symptoms!

ItWillWash · 12/04/2023 10:46

That's a good idea, OP. It's worth ruling out any other obvious causes and help put your mind at rest. It is more likely than not nothing more insidious than stress/worry.

I know when my DD had the same just making the appointment was enough to help calm her and her period came the same day she was due to see the nurse for blood tests.

We still went for the blood tests just in case but everything turned out to be fine.

ItWillWash · 12/04/2023 10:49

I'd also like to commend you for your maturity, OP, if that's not too patronising.

When DD was going through this she had me and knew she would have my full support and love no matter what the outcome and she was still in a terrible state. I cannot even begin to imagine how she would have coped in your situation.

You'll go far in life with your attitude.

6namechang3 · 12/04/2023 10:52

Looks like you have had a lucky escape. You are probably incredibly fertile at 18.I can remember having a few similar scares at your age. I think there are a lot better methods of long acting contraception available then when I was young. Hopefully you can get something sorted that suits you fairly quickly. Good luck !

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2023 10:57

Just read this.

Just wanted to say that it sounds like life has thrown you some unfair curve balls but you sound so mature and sensible.

I hope you get to the bottom of what's causing your symptoms.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2023 10:58

As an aside have you had covid or could you have had covid recently?

That's well documented for throwing your cycle out of whack.

Namexchange05 · 12/04/2023 12:46

I’ve just called the doctor, said I’m 9 days late and I’ve had some symptoms but all my tests have been negative, she put me on hold for like 5 mins and then came back and said can I come down before 3:30 to do a urine sample so I’m getting ready now. Does anyone know how long it takes for the results of these to come back?

OP posts:
Bamboux · 12/04/2023 13:02

You'll get an immediate result. They use the same tests that you have used at home. It's really not that unusual to miss a period, try not to worry.

Oh that's interesting. I'm currently 3 weeks late, have had 4 negative tests so I'm 100% not pregnant but no sign of my period Confused

Findyourneutralspace · 12/04/2023 13:11

The result will be straight away from the doctors. Then they will discuss next steps, either for a pregnancy or contraception.
It sounds like you’ve had a lot of changes lately, with moving to your supported living, so you are bound to have a bit of upheaval.
Good luck. Whatever the outcome, you will figure it all out. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders.

They're just going to do a normal pregnancy test so 5 minutes max.

Yeah, was really odd, especially as I was on the pill and had never had any issues with my period not starting when I took the pill break to have my period.

maddy68 · 12/04/2023 14:09

Do a test first
IF it is positive decide if a) you want to tell you out r boyfriend b) if you want to keep it
If you decide not to keep it or want to discuss options book in at a clinic near you

MeinKraft · 12/04/2023 14:36

I was in this position once and the doctor explained that infections can cause a delayed period. She did a swab and it turned out I had thrush. Got it treated and all went back to usual. Hope you get sorted soon OP, this kind of thing is a head fuck for anyone but especially at your tender age.

Op, I think in your first post you indicate that you took emergency contraception a few weeks ago which is why you didn’t want to take it again so soon. Emergency contraception can throw your periods out of whack and mess with your hormones for a cycle or two. It is possible that is what has happened here.
