So I’m 18, my bf is 17. We’ve been together 3 months, friends for a long time before that. A few weeks ago the condom split, now I’m a week late on my period. I should’ve got the pill but I had one a few weeks before and was told I shouldn’t have it too often so I went to the toilet after hoping it would come out. I was planning on getting the non hormonal coil soon. I’m always due between the 27th-3rd. Checked last month and it came on the 3rd, it’s now the 10th and still no signs. Yesterday my right boob kept hurting and they look a bit bigger but I might be imagining it, I’m getting weird random twinges in my stomach, really vivid dreams, I'm so tired I’m struggling to wake up in the morning after even 10 hours sleep, generally just feel tired like I don’t want to go out and do anything, I’ve been really sensitive, I never cry but I keep feeling teary over small things, and I’m gagging when I use my vape sometimes which never happens, I also feel rly faint every time I wake up. I did a test yesterday and there’s a faint line but I’m not sure if it’s just an evaporation line? I live in a supported accommodation so my situation isn’t great and I’m just really stressed because my period is never this late. I’m going to get more tests tomorrow. :(

I think the red dye ones are meant to be more accurate. I hear a lot of people saying clear blue is bad for evap lines.

First response seem to work well, or a digital one.

Whatever happens know that it isn't the end of the world, you have options, and whatever you decide will be okay

Favouritefruits · 11/04/2023 15:26

There’s no point stressing about what might or might not be happening, get a test and take it from there, you may well be stressing for no reason. Once you have your answer for sure you can see what path you want to take next.

Aaaaandbreathe · 11/04/2023 16:00

I fell pregnant at 18 whilst in supported accommodation (estranged from family) and I now have an amazing 20 year old.

You sound sensible and know your options, don't feel forced either way. It's young but you can do it if that is what you want. Equally if you don't want to continue the pregnancy (if you are) that is ok too.

So I’ve just got home and done this test. I have 2 more of these and a clear blue weeks detector that I’m planning on doing tomorrow morning so it’ll be more accurate? I swear I can see a line but on camera doesn’t look like much.

OP posts:
Namexchange05 · 11/04/2023 19:38

Camera won’t pick it up how I can see it in person!!

Namexchange05 · 11/04/2023 19:40

Tried to attach a video don’t think it worked? I feel like I can see one but I’m really paranoid that it’s just an evaporation line or that I’m convincing myself there’s something that isn’t there???? I just wish I could know either way. My boobs were a lot sorer today, ran down some stairs and they hurt which has literally never happened??

OP posts:
saveface · 11/04/2023 19:48

I can't see anything on there. Looks negative to me.

I'd be expecting a much stronger line for being a week late

That’s why I’m so confused!! I’ve had every single symptom, my boobs have never ever hurt before now and they look bigger, no sign of period coming, every other symptom etc yet barely anything on the tests?

GoodChat · 11/04/2023 19:51

It looks negative to me too. Normally you'd see quite a clear line by now, but do try one with your first wee tomorrow morning.

I hope you get the result you want

Mumof1andacat · 11/04/2023 19:57

I hope it's the result you are looking for. Best make a gp appointment to sort the coil out if that's what you think you want. I have the implant which is a great long term contraceptive.

ItWillWash · 11/04/2023 20:01

My 18-year-old went through this recently. She swore blind she was definitely pregnant. She had all the symptoms you describe. We did daily tests for ten days, and all were negative.

Her period appeared the day she was booked in to see a GP.

Take a breath and try to relax. If the tests are negative it's likely stress/hormones messing with your cycle. Wait a week, try to put it out of your mind, and book to see your GP if your period still hasn't appeared in a week's time. It's early days so waiting a week won't take any of your options away if you are pregnant.

Bamboux · 11/04/2023 20:04

That's a negative test.

When I tested a week after my period was due, the line came up incredibly clear instantly.

You're not pregnant. X

Namexchange05 · 11/04/2023 20:10

Okay, now I’m concerned why I’m having all these symptoms but not pregnant??

OP posts:
MeinKraft · 11/04/2023 20:15

If all of those symptoms were pregnancy symptoms, you'd have a big thick bold line by now. Sounds like your cycles have gone a bit wonky and you've got PMS - the dreams and tiredness and that is probably just from stressing about thinking you're pregnant.

Hiddenvoice · 11/04/2023 20:15

Hi op read your posts and updates, not read the other posters.
If you were about a week late then your tests would come up very positive instead of a faint line. Try your test in the morning but I imagine it will be negative too.
stress can have a big impact on your period and can delay it so if you’ve been worrying about this for a little while then it can impact it. You say your parents won’t help you etc but maybe the stress of what they said a few weeks ago is getting to you!
Have you been unwell lately? Illnesses can impact too.
It sounds like you have some period symptoms like the sore boobs, feeling a bit yucky at times, it could be that your period is much later than normal. If you still have a negative test tomorrow then see if you can book an appointment with the gp to get checked over

ItWillWash · 11/04/2023 20:18

Namexchange05 · 11/04/2023 20:10

Stress.

The mind is a very complex thing. It can manifest physical symptoms. If you thought the symptoms of pregnancy were blue spots in your eyes you'd be seeing blue spots too.

Namexchange05 · 11/04/2023 20:20

Seems like it probably is just stress, I’m gonna do another one tomorrow morning with my first pee, then if it’s still negative I will make a doctors appointment, can I ask for them to do a pregnancy test? What do I say? Do I just explain that I’m 8 days late and tell them I’ve had sore boobs etc n see what they say?

OP posts:
ItWillWash · 11/04/2023 20:24

That's what I said when I booked my DD to see the GP for the same thing. They made her appointment with the nurse for blood tests. If nothing showed on those they would have booked in for an ultrasound to check her ovaries etc.

LBFseBrom · 11/04/2023 20:27

Yes, that is what you do, op. However your period may arrive before you see the doctor, especially as you have tested negative. It does look as though you are not pregnant.

As others have said, the mind is a complex thing and stress does alter your cycle. I had the same twice when I was young. When I had negative tests my period arrived. Phew!

Now make sure you do not become pregnant again until you are older and settled. Good luck to you.

AllOfThemWitches · 11/04/2023 20:32

You need a coil or an implant, I'll tell you now that having a baby at your age with no money is fucking HARD. Been there.

winterchills · 11/04/2023 20:34

If your not pregnant please go and get contraception. You will make brilliant parents im sure but get some stability first 😊

Yes just tell them you're getting lots of symptoms and are over a week late but negative pregnancy tests and ask if they can do a confirmation blood test

testtrout · 11/04/2023 20:37

Get checked and confirmed then call Bpas.
You absolutely do not want to think about having a child in your situation at your age.
Get long term contraception sorted also.
You also could go to your GP and get copper coil fitted ASAP.

YoBeaches · 11/04/2023 20:38

The doctors won't do a pregnancy test since you will have done three and they are negative. Tests are very accurate.

It's not unusual for periods to still adjust in cycle or change as you are still young and your hormones are still developing.

Stress, poor diet etc can all have an impact too. It does sound like you have had some difficult times, I'm glad you have found a loving and supportive boyfriend.

Honestly for your sake given your current circumstances this would be the best outcome at this point. If your period doesn't arrive in another week or so then go to the GP, but you'll probably find that your current symptoms are PMT and period will arrive soon. Just a blip. It happens and will happen again in the future.

GoodChat · 11/04/2023 20:39

@YoBeaches they'll give her a blood test to rule things out - not just pregnancy.
