Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

'otherworldly' even

shivawn · 06/04/2023 11:00

I had a patient recently from Leonora, Australia and he was absolutely amazed when I said that I had been there. Real arse end of nowhere.

The only country that I've been to that no one else I know has been to is Eswatini (or Swaziland as it was called then).

SpiritInTheNight · 06/04/2023 11:00

Camden - Maine, USA
Mellon Udrigle - Scotland

Halesowen.....not very exotic but I'm from there and live in London now, no one's ever heard of it.

I've been there, I'm in Wolverhampton so not far for me.

cafecreme · 06/04/2023 11:01

I see Djibouti has been mentioned, can I replace with Senegal? 😄

I’ve also been through the Suez Canal on a marine research vessel, from Alexandria to Jeddah. My first job out of uni in 1997.

We saw the RY Britannia going the other way, returning from HK. The captain called us onto the bridge and we all waved.

You people have been to some exciting places! Ones that I can remember from the thread I've been to are the Western Isles, Scotland and Moscow.

I think I can almost guarantee though that no one else has been to Luusua, Finnish Lapland
St. Petersburg
Eel Pie Island (the name pleased me so much)

Sorry, I've delivered stuff to Eel Pie Island 😁

CakeRattleandRoll · 06/04/2023 11:03

Didn't get a chance to add my three:

Palmerston Island (in the Cook Islands) - amazing place, population around 25, no airfield, only way to get there is by boat (we stopped off while sailing across Pacific): https://cookislands.travel/discover-palmerston

Equatorial Guinea - not recommended

San Agustin, Colombia - incredible. Was off limits for a while due to guerrilla activity, not sure if it has reopened.

My offerings,

Mount Nebo (where Moses saw the promised land from), Jordan

Pingvellir (one foot in North America and one foot in Europe), Iceland

Abu Simbel (in an armed convoy for a four hour drive each way - that was fun), Egypt/ Sudan border

Juffureh and Kunta Kinteh Island, Gambia (where Roots was based)

Persepolis in Iran - I had no idea there was one in Brazil too

I have been to a lot of the other places on here in the US, Middle East and Asia.

Have been to Mount Nebo, Abu Simbel, and Jufureh and Kunta Kinte Island (was called James Island when I went, we’d wanted to go and see the place seriously as a historic site but somehow ended up on a booze cruise!)

Anonymouslyposting · 06/04/2023 11:12

@IncaTrail I’ve been to Bagan.

@Natsku I’ve been to St Petersburg.

@Luredbyapomegranate been to Peru.

I think no one has been to my three yet! This is bringing out a very unpleasant competitive streak in me…

Swanchaser · 06/04/2023 11:15

I'm not particularly well travelled, but I have been to both Moshi, Tanzania and Rathambore, India.
Anyone been to Silvepura in India?

AdoraBell · 06/04/2023 11:15

Margarita Island, Venezuela here too. I miss living in Latin America.

Giggorata · 06/04/2023 11:16

I'll claim Cathedral Grove, Cleethorpes, Squamish and Gran Canaria.
I'll add Akademgorok in Siberia.

LarkDescending · 06/04/2023 11:16

@yodaforpresident I’ve been to (amazing) Persepolis, but not when I lived in Iran - went back for a visit in 1996.

Natsku · 06/04/2023 11:25

TooManyChillies · 06/04/2023 10:58

I’ve been to Groningen @sashh

Also been to Groningen

glasshouse · 06/04/2023 11:25

@Starlia Apologies, you are correct, it's been 30 odd years. But the Australian Ballina didn't have the zebra. Very strange to see one in rural Mayo.😀

DisneyDisneyDisney · 06/04/2023 11:29

I have been:
in and around The Whitehouse
Philip Island, Melbourne
Robben Island, South Africa
Alcatraz

Love this thread and so jealous of the places some of you have been!

my contributions:

Sedona, Arizona
Tromso, Norway
Teotehuacan, Mexico

Been to your last 2

No one's mentioned mine yet- also getting competitive!

LarkDescending · 06/04/2023 11:31

@SiobhanSharpe I’ve been to Umhlanga (specifically Umhlanga Rocks) and also the lovely John Smith’s Bay.

photoshop · 06/04/2023 11:31

Actually the first and last- not Norway!

Berlinlover · 06/04/2023 11:32

My three are

Cygnet, Tasmania
Jerilderie, New South Wales
Tatutra, Victoria

CakeRattleandRoll · 06/04/2023 11:32

Mentioned by PP - I've been to Douala and Medellin.

And Rottnest many, many times. In fact we have another week booked in a couple of months' time.

@sashh As a West Aussie, I feel a bit ashamed that I have never been to Wedge. And @shivawn spot on for Leonora - I've not made it there either!

Azure · 06/04/2023 11:34

Of those I think only mentioned once I've been to Taipei, Miyajima, Nuwara Eliya, Lake Titicaca and Rathambore.
