Does anyone else live their lives in quotes?

bitcharming · 05/04/2023 22:05

for example
if someone says
'say it '
I have to say
'vampire. '

Whenever we go to the dentist I have to say
'dental plan, Lisa needs braces'

there's loads. I must quote films books or TV shows 100 times a day. And so does my while family. is it just us? Does anyone have any more?

if anyone asks how old I am (even when asking for ID to get into a club or get cigarettes) I want to say '17'.
anyone know why?

Oh god my only one is from bubble guppies! Indoctrinated from when the DC were small, if anyone asks what time is it, I always answer It's time for lunch and start singing the bubble guppies lunch song.
I don't even like the sodding bubble guppies I'm just trained like a flipping pavlov's dog.

"How long have you been 17?"

Oh my god I have one from outnumbered
the moms reading a book and she says 'you're my lunch' and It just happened when you said that, but then it morphed into 'what time is it its time for lunch '
that's never happened before, you're changing me!

I have no idea what those quotes refer to but I find it eerie that TV, films etc can so infiltrate someone's mind that their thoughts are barely even their own.

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 05/04/2023 22:14

I believe that there is always a quote from Friends that can be used in any life situation.

AtomicBlondeRose · 05/04/2023 22:14

I have hundreds. If anyone gets anything in or near their eye it’s “my eye! I’m not supposed to get pudding in it!”. If someone has a secret it’s “they don’t know that we know they know that we know”, if something’s free it’s “free to those than can afford it, very expensive to those who can’t” and so on infinitely. Not all TV and film, also song lyrics and poetry (a sunny day is “sun destroys the interest of what’s happening in the shade”).

HeartshapedFox · 05/04/2023 22:16

Omg yes to the Bubble Guppies one! It’s not just you!
Loads from the League of Gentlemen, DH and I can’t mention a new road without one of us saying “New Road Edward!”
That and “In this house” in the same voice as the character - even the kids do it now despite having zero context 😂

Stumbleine · 05/04/2023 22:17

Yep. My head is full to the brim of friends quotes (but need my teenage best friend with me for them to make any sense on a daily basis)

Most days it's the inbetweeners

AtomicBlondeRose · 05/04/2023 22:17

I don’t see it as my mind being infiltrated- I have a good memory, enjoy language and hold on to anything that I find an interesting or memorable way of putting things. For that reason I have a lot of Victoria Wood quotes stored away as I love her use of language (“I had my television mended recently. Well, I say mended. A young man in plimsolls came and wiggled my aerial and wolfed my Gypsy Creams, but that’s the comprehensive system for you”). I also remember things people said in real life!

Coffeecoffeeinmytummy · 05/04/2023 22:21

Anytime I spill something “Oh it’s everywhere! It’s in my raccoon wounds!”

Most things are a friends quote. But also scrubs, inbetweeners, clueless

ickyPeter · 05/04/2023 22:24

I have the office quotes in my head for any given situation

PacificallyRequested · 05/04/2023 22:25

Me! I quote Friends and the Simpsons all the time. Most frequently channel Joey by saying "Not just a hat rack, my friend!".

Shortpoet · 05/04/2023 22:29

Simpsons, Peep Show, Phoenix Nights, Father Ted, Withnail and I, and many more sources.

Too many quotes to mention.

AmandaHoldensLips · 05/04/2023 22:31

If somebody asks me something I will often go full Martin in the gold suit from ABC and sing loudly...

"I don't know the answer to that question....
If I did I would tell yoooooooooou...."

Fifthtimelucky · 05/04/2023 22:36

The only one we do is that when someone wants to know how many there are of something, they have to ask "how many are there?" in the voice of Dudley Dursley from the first Harry Potter film.

validnumber · 05/04/2023 22:36

I live my life in songs!
Loads of things people say are part of a song and I can sing the next line back to them!
No idea why - I'm not remotely musical 😂

Same

HadEnoughOfBears · 05/04/2023 22:39

Also, when leaving a hotel room the only possible answer to "have you got the key" is of course "Yes...and I got the secret"

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/04/2023 22:44

Mine are from comedy shows like The Mary Whitehouse Experience and the Fast Show.

Bueno Estente!

AFlockOfTigers · 05/04/2023 22:49

Funnily enough I started a thread on this the other day, but it got lost in the mix. DC2 (18) finally got around to watching Blackadder the Third and finally learned why every adult he knows says "Sensible Policies for a Happier Britain" in reaction to any lunatic idea. Large swathes of adult conversation now make sense to him after a complete Blackadder viewing.

Scorchio!

I do have some quotes I use but for the life of me I can't remember them! I do say 'pivot!' when needed

MrsHughesPinny · 05/04/2023 22:56

Absolutely! Most commonly, Kevin Smith films, Withnail and I, Friday Night Dinner or something from John Hughes film.

”Screws fall out all the time. The world is an imperfect place.”

Awrite · 05/04/2023 22:56

'Tis I, Leclerc' whenever I walk through a door quickly.

Awrite · 05/04/2023 22:57

'These are small but those are far away.'
