Does anyone else live their lives in quotes?

bitcharming · 05/04/2023 22:05

for example
if someone says
'say it '
I have to say
'vampire. '

Whenever we go to the dentist I have to say
'dental plan, Lisa needs braces'

there's loads. I must quote films books or TV shows 100 times a day. And so does my while family. is it just us? Does anyone have any more?

We've been quoting the Wonderpets for the last 15 years or so. Turns out the children have zero memory of actually watching the Wonderpets, they just automatically answer Teamwork when we say "what's gonna work?"

We also quote Cabin Pressure, a lot. Even when John Finnemore was quoting something else in there.

Funnily enough I started a thread on this the other day, but it got lost in the mix. DC2 (18) finally got around to watching Blackadder the Third and finally learned why every adult he knows says "Sensible Policies for a Happier Britain" in reaction to any lunatic idea. Large swathes of adult conversation now make sense to him after a complete Blackadder viewing.

"I shall return interfrastically!" Is how we all say goodbye in our house (including DC 10&12)

"I offer you my most enthusiastic contrafibularities" when something is done well.

😁😁😁

My DH does this, if I say one of his trigger words, he has to say whatever follows next. I suspect he has ADHD and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

If someone says “Unbelievable” I want to say “And yet believable!” with a little finger point.

I could list thousands of these. I have wondered how much of my personality is stitched together from Tv shows. My DP is the same.

Yep. My head is full to the brim of friends quotes (but need my teenage best friend with me for them to make any sense on a daily basis)

Most days it's the inbetweeners

Me too. The worst one is when people ask 'should I do this' and the answer is 'could do'. Only in my mind do I add the filthy second part of terrible advice Jay was giving on pleasing a woman.

Clearly I have a pervy inner 17 year old trying to escape.

I do it all the time - with songs quotes, punchlines from jokes...

I can't go near Twickenham without saying 'took off his boots and was sick in 'em'

If someone says Jamaica, I have to say 'no she went of her own accord'

songs, quotes, the list is endless...

I really am a very annoying person

CuppaWhiteTea · 06/04/2023 23:40

Since first watching Lost Boys in about 1994 I don’t think I’ve ever seen, chosen or eaten noodles without saying “Noodles, Michael” out loud.

MyMachineAndMe · 07/04/2023 00:02

I do the Friends quotes too, as well as Hyacinth Bucket, Del Boy and Harry Hill.

Whenever anyone says something about a fire, I have to say, "I bid you to burn!"

msssm · 07/04/2023 01:17

I drive my grandkids crazy with singing a song that leads off of almost any and every word they say to me. I do it all day long too but mostly talking to myself so no one else to annoy lol.

I also find myself quoting regularly from the Grinch, Muppet Christmas Carol and of course Friends.

Keeps me smiling 😁

"IIIIII PUT THE SCREW IN THE TUNA!"
Anything DIY related

Yes to "Dental plan. Lisa needs braces".

Any Simpsons episode, Family Guy, Little Britain, any Adam Sandler movie, I've got a quote that I use day to day. Also Stepbrothers, The Tudors, Marvel, god I could go on for days.
These things audio record in my mind and pop up given the slightest chance. Sometimes accompanied by dancing (I do a brilliant "See My Vest" a la Mr Burns).
DD remains unappreciative Hmm

Filthycop · 07/04/2023 11:39

so glad it isn't just me

Mine are from comedy shows like The Mary Whitehouse Experience and the Fast Show.

Bueno Estente!

In our house. If anyone says something smells bad we say " that's because it's been fown your mum's braaaa"

dudsville · 07/04/2023 11:48

I would have said no, but I've been sitting with a sick relative for several weeks and there's been a lot of high volume tv. I'm sitting here with advertisements running through my mind.

I believe that there is always a quote from Friends that can be used in any life situation.

I completely agree with this ... Me and DH, and our adult children are always quoting quotes from 'Friends.' Also lines and quotes from the IT crowd. Red Dwarf. One Foot in the Grave, Only Fools and Horses etc... Also White chicks. And quite a few other films, like The Terminator and the Lethal Weapons and the Beverly Hills Cops films, and many others. So yes, we've got a quote for every situation. Grin

100% with you @bitcharming

The main one in our family is screaming “DIG UP THE ROAD!” like Mr Bull in Peppa Pig when we see roadworks.

Yes!!! This is us too 🤣 that sodding pig has way to much of my brain space! That bloody camp song is a frequent ear worm of mine. Paw patrol quotes often pop into my brain too.

Whenever someone says try it, we all start singing the yo gabba gabba song.

Quite often I keep the quotes/random songs in my head, it's constant and honestly I come across as a bit quirky anyway I don't want to totally freak people out 🤣 the trouble is I work in a nursery so some of my little phrases/quotes/song lyrics come out and I find the children saying them too! Oops! 🤣

I cant actually think of exact examples as its all pretty random, but unfortunately for dds they seem to have inherited my quirky traits and often have random thought/quote outbursts 🤣
