Does anyone else live their lives in quotes?

bitcharming · 05/04/2023 22:05

for example
if someone says
'say it '
I have to say
'vampire. '

Whenever we go to the dentist I have to say
'dental plan, Lisa needs braces'

there's loads. I must quote films books or TV shows 100 times a day. And so does my while family. is it just us? Does anyone have any more?

If anyone ever comments 'good point, well made', I always want to say 'Bar-bera' like Dave's Dad in the Royle Family Christmas Special.

Shangrilalala · 05/04/2023 22:59

Whenever anyone in our house comments on the weather ‘it’s a rainy day’ ‘it’s a sunny day’ etc they are expected to add ‘in Balamory’ à la Miss Hoolie.

LunaNorth · 05/04/2023 23:03

‘Moonah!’ If it’s a full moon.
’Dip it again…’ if someone’s having tea and biscuits.
’He’s put an egg on it’ when DH is making his breakfast.
’Dammit, Fanny!’ to express mild frustration.

We like Ghosts in this house.

'Tis I, Leclerc' whenever I walk through a door quickly.

We use that one when Charles LeClerc is mentioned in a F1 race on TV.

Me! I quote Friends and the Simpsons all the time. Most frequently channel Joey by saying "Not just a hat rack, my friend!".

Friends would be mine too, I use that Joey line and also if something is good or cool I'll say ("check it out, Jam crackers!) Joey style 👌

Denise82 · 05/04/2023 23:10

Also "oh my christ" Pam from Gavin and Stacey and "still life goes on" also Pam

LunaNorth · 05/04/2023 23:12

Oh yes, ‘It’s the drama, Mick, I just love it,’ when anything is happening.

And the only response to a compliment is, ‘I know, I feels it,’ a la Nessa.

If somebody asks me something I will often go full Martin in the gold suit from ABC and sing loudly...

"I don't know the answer to that question....
If I did I would tell yoooooooooou...."

This is my favourite.

Hey girl, I thought we were the right combination

Justleaveitblankthen · 05/04/2023 23:18

When I have won at a TV quiz question, or imparted some other useless fact or other I always quote Jim Royle;
"Up here for thinking, down there for Dancing" 🫢

The only one we do is that when someone wants to know how many there are of something, they have to ask "how many are there?" in the voice of Dudley Dursley from the first Harry Potter film.

36, counted them myself
but last year! last year there were 37.
we do this every birthday and Christmas, so much so that I think I may be becoming a Dursley.
we also say 'a bit more' for everything like his sister, marge when she asks for a small brandy. All my friends do it, even the ones who live lives sans HP

Also, when leaving a hotel room the only possible answer to "have you got the key" is of course "Yes...and I got the secret"

I'm nicking this.

when anyone says mayonnaise we say 'a ghost!' like joey from friends.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 05/04/2023 23:50

Every time someone suggests nachos my brain says 'hurricane tortilla' (from a viral video).

Anytime someone says 'eggs' my brain says 'JOANNA' (Rescuers down under)

IDontWantToBeAPie · 05/04/2023 23:52

Oh and anytime I need the key from DP I have to say 'Key, please' like the goblins from Harry Potter.

Oddly I noticed the other day that DPs best mate says it too 😂

Maverickess · 06/04/2023 00:07

Whenever someone is being 'difficult' (but in a funny way) it's "I have to go before I put your head through a wall" Phoebe from Friends.

The drug trolley keys were just "The secrets" in the last care home I worked in, a long with a lot of "Oooh nurse!" Carry On style.

And a mic drop end to any jokey type argument in this house ends with Rachel's "It's not that common, it doesn't happen to every guy, and it is a big deal!" And the 'opposition' responds "I knew it!!!" Chandler style.

MyMachineAndMe · 06/04/2023 00:36

I often do this with song lyrics so if a child says they're excited I have to sing it like that song from the holiday adverts.

Any mention of thunder or lightning gets me singing Bohemian rhapsody.

There are more but I can't remember them.

MyMachineAndMe · 06/04/2023 00:40

And if course the "To me, to you," from the chuckle brothers.

"It's that fine rain that soaks you through," and, "It's spitting! Everybody in!" whenever anyone mentions the rain.

3catsandcounting · 06/04/2023 08:58

I find a cue for a song or phrase most days, some conversations with my adult DD comprise mainly of quotes from Gavin&Stacey, Royle Family, Phoenix Nights and Early Doors.
Yesterday at work. the teacher asked me if I had the key (to the cupboard). I replied with a lengthy "I've got the se-cre-e-et".
Full head-swivel of 32 reception children.

Magpiecomplex · 06/04/2023 09:06

One of my favourites is "What's it got in its pocketses, preciousss?" when emptying pockets before putting on a wash.

ImAvingOops · 06/04/2023 09:41

DS and his friend have a long running 'Morning angle' text streak from Hot Fuzz. Also 'going to the Winchester'.

Whenever DS asks if a particular shirt is clean, me and dh say 'the white one' from the old washing powder ad in the 80s.

There's some only fools and horses ones as well - plonker is probably in everyone's vocabulary now.

ImAvingOops · 06/04/2023 09:43

Weirdly 'we don't do duvets' gets a frequent mention in our house too

I live my life in songs!
Loads of things people say are part of a song and I can sing the next line back to them!
No idea why - I'm not remotely musical 😂

This is me!! Me family find me very annoying 😂

BrBa · 06/04/2023 09:56

Jesus Christ Marie they’re minerals

if anyone mentions the word rock in any context

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 05/04/2023 22:14

I believe that there is always a quote from Friends that can be used in any life situation.

He's her lobster!! 🦞 👏👏👏

The main one in our family is screaming “DIG UP THE ROAD!” like Mr Bull in Peppa Pig when we see roadworks.
