Easter Weekend

Already fed up with the ads, telling me I should be doing a massive lamb roast on Easter Sunday & sit half the planet round my table on ill assorted seating! Also that my house should be draped with cute bunting, an Easter tree etc etc. My reality will probably be chocolate eggs but not for DD, DH’s homemade hot cross buns & possibly an Indian takeaway as it’s DF’s birthday. No bunting or any other decorations in sight & certainly not a leg of lamb! What are you guys doing?

Friday - Lunch with PIL and BIL/SIL at restaurant. Followed by fun fair.
Saturday - NT egg hunt.
Sunday - Home egg hunts/ shop bought hot cross buns for breakfast. Dinner with my extended family.
Monday - Eating chocolate. Local museum.

Iamblossom · 03/04/2023 18:50

An egg each for 2 sons and DH, and Lunch at my sisters on Monday.

That's it.

My sons are 16 and 18 though

mindutopia · 03/04/2023 18:53

We are as usual doing an Easter egg hunt in the morning, which dc enjoy to varying degrees due to their mood, and then a spiced leg of lamb (traded some things for it with a local farmer) cooked in the smoker. It’s just the 4 of us. Thankfully, family largely staying away this year which makes a nice change. No decorations (do people do Easter decorations?).

Sunday will be egg hunt before driving home a few hours on the motorway

We will be having a family meal on Friday instead which we will take with us and cook and wash up Can't wait for Sunday evening!

America12 · 03/04/2023 18:57

Working all of it except Monday.

Sanch1 · 03/04/2023 18:58

Our only plan is to meet up with bil, sil and kids Sunday for an egg hunt where they are staying, probably beach if nice. Monday we are heading to a caravan for a few days. No plans Friday or Saturday.

ProjectsGalore · 03/04/2023 18:59

Nothing. I'm divorced and live alone.

Ragwort · 03/04/2023 19:00

Will have MIL round for lunch on Sunday, I'm not doing a roast as MIL and DC won't eat it. I'll do an Easter Egg Hunt for DC after lunch, in the garden if it's nice. DC will get eggs from us and MIL and a small gift from my DM (my request or they get too many eggs).

Rest of the weekend I'll have DP under my feet, he's supposed to clearing out the spare bedroom and decorating it but if the weather is nice he'll probably drag us all out on a country walk or to sit on the beach bored out of our minds to get out of it!

UB40andaglassofwine · 03/04/2023 19:09

Egg hunt with my son, and a nice long walk in the countryside to burn off the chocolate. That's it.
My parents never made Easter a big deal. We got a chocolate egg and then carried on with our day with nothing new.
I don't do anything extravagant even as an adult

hattie43 · 03/04/2023 19:12

Easter Sunday the full roast , chocolate eggs , small gifts , flowers . The rest of the weekend depends on the weather

tobee · 03/04/2023 19:12

Ahhh! Those sort of adverts are incredibly annoying.

And, yes, especially the ill assorted chairs "for family, friends and anyone who drops by" . Is there an Easter equivalent of bah humbug? Hmm

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 03/04/2023 19:16

We are the twits with wreaths and wooden bunny rabbits dotted around the house. Spring flowers, pastel speckled eggs, little sheep… the works 😳. Lots of it gathered over the past 10-15 years.

Friday - Housework in the morning and shopping delivery. NT egg hunt with friends and their DC’s in the afternoon.

Saturday - Brunch with other friends and maybe a walk. Baking with adult DD in the afternoon (Easter nest cake for the 12th year!) followed by pizza and HOP on tv.

Sunday - Wake to egg hunt at home then egg hunt and brunch at DP’s with extended family. PIL coming for dinner, they dislike lamb so roast chicken, baby potatoes and spring veg with the cake for dessert.

Monday - lazy morning enjoying having all DC under one roof 🥰. Running DS to the airport in the afternoon so planning to drop into the city on the way home for a look around the shops.

No offence to folks who do decorate!

We're Christian so church on Thursday, Friday & Sunday. Otherwise just lazing around. Will do an Easter egg hunt & a nice lunch on Easter Sunday. I go very OTT with decorations but nothing goes up till last thing Saturday night.

aintnothinbutagstring · 03/04/2023 21:40

I personally don't do anything Easter related til Sunday. Church, meal, eggs - I can't eat too much chocolate as dairy intolerant, might make a cake? It's terrible feeling that pressure to have those perfect family days isn't it - I try to ignore TV and social media as much as I can. My dc are too old for egg hunts thank goodness!

Tumbleweed101 · 03/04/2023 21:51

My children have voted easter egg hunt on Sunday (even though youngest is 13 now!). Will probably eat with family one of the days as my Dad is up staying close by but not sure if it will be me or my son (a chef) sorting it.

notprincehamlet · 03/04/2023 21:55

Regrouting the bathroom

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 03/04/2023 21:58

Kids are 12 and 16 so haven't had to do Easter eggs for 5 years or so. Probably do some gardening and catch-up on sleep....

mondaytosunday · 03/04/2023 22:02

My kids are late teens so no hunt, but I'll give them an over priced and over packaged egg each.
My son is coming up Saturday and has been looking forward to the lamb roast for months! He has rosemary in his garden so will bring some. It's my favourite meal too. At the moment we are deciding between sticky toffee pudding or apple crumble for dessert!
Then food coma afternoon and a good movie then he goes home Monday.
I love Easter. I have so many memories of my mum cooking a leg of lamb, making her own mint sauce. She used these beautiful hand painted floral plates for dessert, which I don't recall us using any other time if the year. I guess I'm trying to recreate some of that.

Numbersarefun · 03/04/2023 22:03

There are churchy things on Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sunday. Just me and 21year old DD, so I’ll wait and see what she wants to do when she gets here.

edwinbear · 03/04/2023 22:07

Probably a local fun fair Friday, nothing planned on Saturday, Easter eggs and roast lamb on Sunday. Monday, DC have their first outdoor athletics event of the season - so hoping it doesn’t rain all day!

ChicagoBears · 03/04/2023 22:09

Friday - Hosting Easter egg Hunt
Saturday - we’re taking the DC on a hike and then a picnic
Sunday - Family member of hosting a Sunday luncheon at our local hood club. 50 of us are going so it’s going to be lovely
Monday - long bike ride with DC followed by brunch and then home for games

FusionChefGeoff · 03/04/2023 22:18

Friday: fajitas and roller skating with friends
Sat: roast gammon with my grandma and parents at ours
Sun: to PILs as SIL and family visiting - likely a roast (that I don't have to cook!)
Mon: FA
