Easter Weekend

Already fed up with the ads, telling me I should be doing a massive lamb roast on Easter Sunday & sit half the planet round my table on ill assorted seating! Also that my house should be draped with cute bunting, an Easter tree etc etc. My reality will probably be chocolate eggs but not for DD, DH’s homemade hot cross buns & possibly an Indian takeaway as it’s DF’s birthday. No bunting or any other decorations in sight & certainly not a leg of lamb! What are you guys doing?

Friday - taking tiny baby and toddler to see my dad. He's my favourite human aside my children so it'll be lovely.

Saturday - DP is taking toddler to the rugby, can't remember who, so I'll enjoy a day of calm and probably a swim while baby snoozes (private pool, I bring her carry cot to the side of the pool)

Sunday - going to a ride on mini train thing that the toddler will absolutely adore (as will I). Maybe a roast lamb after.

Monday - rest

Friday... fish and chips at the coast. Sat trip to the park. Sunday swimming then church then an Easter egg hunt and will do a dinner (got pork but will also get lamb shanks for me as no one else likes lamb).

Monday will have a day out at a national trust place and then do a lazy roast dinner with the leftover meat!

I love Easter! I think I prefer it to Christmas as there's not all of the expectation and expense!

'It's terrible feeling that pressure to have those perfect family days isn't it'

Yes, its awful, although it's only a tiny fraction of what you have to put up with at Christmas, which starts in October apparently 🙄

Easter is my favourite weekend of the year - you get all of the food stuff of Christmas (bank holidays, nice food and drink) but none of the bullshit (hearing about it for 3 months before, claustrophobia, awful weather)

ilovebagpuss · 04/04/2023 17:10

Easter egg hunt for teen DD's in garden. Thats it really. We never did the full Christmas dinner for Easter type malarky growing up so i suppose that's stuck and my DD's don't like a roast anyway.
I do a roast for my DF and in law's fairly regularly so we aren't fussed about the date as an "occasion"
Nice for little ones to do Easter crafts and things each to their own with how it's celebrated.

I have 4 simple Easter Eggs ready for us all in the pantry, DS are 16 and 18. Just hoping Covid might have disappeared from our house by the weekend. No special food, but we generally eat fairly well anyway, only time we do a big roast in our house is Xmas day.

maddy68 · 04/04/2023 18:00

Doing exactly the same as any other weekend except fir going out on Friday as it's my birthday

Oceans1000 · 04/04/2023 19:09

Church thursday evening for a reflective communion service.
Messy church on Friday morning, bit of a community event.
Out for lunch on Saturday, beach walk.
Church on Sunday, egg hunt at my parents house followed by a nice roast.
Monday we will go out for a walk, we have lovely beaches and countryside close by.
No Easter tree or bunting.

Fellow church people please tell me it’s hot cross buns Friday night then the sim El cake Easter Sunday? My first Easter with all the church services.

Oceans1000 · 04/04/2023 21:10

thank you.

JanglyBeads · 04/04/2023 23:51

Apparently some L cake was traditionally made for Mothering Sunday, but is now more of an Easter Day thing.

JanglyBeads · 04/04/2023 23:51

*simnel

We do usually bring a 'tree' in (actually a hunk of magnolia that needs pruning anyway at this time of year) and and the bunting and painted eggs are home made by the children about 10 years ago. We'll have family over, I think about 8 this year, but we're not too keen on lamb - we'll probably have bouef bourgignon. But we always have an egg hunt, even though the children are 15 and 12 now.

PogoThePunk · 05/04/2023 06:26

Flying home to visit my family on Thursday, so will be doing nothing but eating, drinking and having a good catch up for all of it.
My sister will be making dinner on Friday evening for everyone, which always ends up with everyone partying after until the early hours.
Apart from my parents who are elderly and like to be in bed before midnight.

CeriB82 · 05/04/2023 06:31

Friday-kitchen clean in the morning then pack the van up for the recycling plant on Saturday

saturday- recycling, then dog walk. Im dog sitting for 3 days

sunday-work in morning, mountain walk with dog, then beef dinner

monday- dog walk, nails done, then no idea!

marcopront · 05/04/2023 06:35

Sit by the pool or beach or hide from the rain in the room watching Netflix.

Hopefully we'll get Easter Eggs the next weekend from a friend who is in the UK now (we aren't).

starfish4 · 05/04/2023 08:04

Good Friday. Taking DM up cemetery. I don't feel the need to go, but mt life will be hell if I don't take her. Back here for lunch.Need to return some clothes, so hoping I can do that later in afternoon.

Saturday- DH to gym. Myself online taichi and a walk later. Might meet friends for coffee.

Sunday. Easter eggs. Will probably do a roast in evening as I normally work Sundays and don't feel like making one on return and eating late.

We plan to do a ongoing walk, and knowing us well do a shorter one (hour or so) and pop in pub for a drink on way back.

ilovebagpuss · 07/04/2023 17:32

Im not against anyone doing whatever they want at Easter but I am against the supermarkets and adverts pushing to make us shop.
Just popped into my local Co-op to be bankrupted buying a jar of coffee and the lady on the checkout was saying "are you all ready for Easter then" like it's bloomin Christmas. Not her fault as she's probably been given a script.

myheartmyhead · 07/04/2023 17:35

Today... purchased leg of lamb
Did the garden
Tomorrow car boot sale
Sunday roast lamb dinner for 4 (ds mentioned Xmas day lunch was rubbish as we all had flu so it's Xmas take 2)
Monday.. nothing

Skethylita · 07/04/2023 17:52

Painted eggs today that I had painstakingly emptied over the last two days. Those are drying, ready to be ribboned up and will then decorate the Easter "tree" (a bunch of random fake green branches - I haven't seen the branches we usually buy at home in my town). The old eggs from last year are already on there.

Saturday is the usual weekend stuff in the morning, then I have a friend over for a bit and depending on time I might get round to sorting the front garden and plant some more flowers. Baking the gingerbread needed for Sunday's stew.

Sunday is a small egg hunt (1 egg each for the kids - shouldn't take long), a walk, some more planting. Rabbit stew for lunch/ dinner.

Monday is chilling and a walk if the weather plays ball.

I am pagan, though, so more focused on the nature and rebirth aspect of this time rather than the Christian stories behind Easter.
