Easter Weekend

Already fed up with the ads, telling me I should be doing a massive lamb roast on Easter Sunday & sit half the planet round my table on ill assorted seating! Also that my house should be draped with cute bunting, an Easter tree etc etc. My reality will probably be chocolate eggs but not for DD, DH’s homemade hot cross buns & possibly an Indian takeaway as it’s DF’s birthday. No bunting or any other decorations in sight & certainly not a leg of lamb! What are you guys doing?

This year we are away but normally:

Easter egg hunt in the garden for DD (15, she insist on it), DH and I share a basket with chocolate eggs and bunnies
Lamb roast for DH and me, DD gets sausages with roast potatoes, green beans and carrots
Hot Cross buns for tea in the afternoon

We have branches of Pussywillow in a vase decorated with wooden and fabric eggs. We are Germans and both grew up with decorating branches with eggs. We also have a couple of bunnie ornaments we get out for a couple of days.

Going to be a bit quiet for me, now divorced and a bit religious so keep Good Friday and Saturday to myself and quiet activities.
Communion at Baptist Thursday evening. Garden on Friday if fine and a walk on Saturday.
Sunday Morning Parish Church, the quiet early Communion.
Then See what happens.

Don't feel sorry for me. It will be an enjoyable weekend.

Anyone else taking the Religious side seriously?

We have a little Easter tree as DD (8) loves occasions/decorating. It's definitely far from Instagram level though!

Friday: No concrete plans but might pop round to my mum and dad for a cuppa and hot cross bun.

Saturday: Normal day of DD's swimming lessons followed by any shopping/errands that need to be done

Sunday: Little egg hunt in the garden. Done it for DD since she was tiny and she still loves it. Organised hunt at a local fishery/lake with friends late morning. I'd love a lamb roast but DD won't eat it and it's just the 2 of us so no point cooking one for just me. Think we're having buffet/party type food. Along with too much chocolate

Kids are 12 and 16 so haven't had to do Easter eggs for 5 years or so. Probably do some gardening and catch-up on sleep....

What? You stopped doing easter eggs for your kids when they were 7 and 11??? That's sad. My ds is 17, still loves eggs as does me, dh and dm. Nobody gets too old for eggs especially not young children.

Makesense12 · 03/04/2023 23:14

Um Easter decoration, bunting, pastels.. Easter tree, lamb but not half the world sat around the table.

pavillion1 · 03/04/2023 23:19

just taken out a loan for the lamb 😬

adoptionthread1 · 03/04/2023 23:19

As always, @sybil40 !

Services on Friday and Sunday for me, the first one is open air.

The teen DC won't come these days but they'll enjoy an egg hunt on Sunday afternoon as usual. However this year DD can drive so am thinking of sending them further afield than hitherto!

Ted27 · 03/04/2023 23:29

Son at work Friday and Saturday, I will go to a yoga class and get on top of the allotment.
Son at church Sunday, travelling up to Liverpool in the afternoon to visit grandparents. My mum is 'doing a roast' but they have both been poorly for some time and have tiny appetites. My son who does a physical job could eat all the food they put out for the 4 of us. I will feed him chocolate and cake on the train. Will do something in Liverpool on Monday

Boopydoo · 03/04/2023 23:31

Flying to Malaga on Thursday for a week, we didn't clock it was over Easter way back when we booked it. In desperate need of respite and a re-charge. Don't generally do much for Easter to be honest, just pig out on chocolate and cook a family roast at some point over the weekend.

just taken out a loan for the lamb 😬

£6.50 a kilo at Tesco, Lidl and Asda (I've had to do the research) so probably the cheapest joint apart from battery chicken.
Anyway....I've got my family coming so I will buy a leg of lamb and we'll have cheap veg and gravy and they're bringing the pud so happy days.

Regrouting the bathroom

Snap!!

Church on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter morning, then busy with a church Easter event for families on Sunday afternoon.

Feeling a bit down about the way Easter - hugely significant for Christians - has become overtaken by shallow consumerism and commercialisation.

AussieKoala01 · 04/04/2023 03:57

Road trip with DH and DS on Friday to visit my dad. Sunday we'll have an egg hunt and lunch, then head back home Sunday afternoon! This is to hopefully beat the traffic and have time to decorate for DS birthday party on Monday afternoon.

Bellaphant · 04/04/2023 09:19

Thursday pm: church
Friday am: easter crafts at church, pm probably Easter nests
Saturday: picnic and egg hunt at my parents'
Sunday: church
Monday: hosting a play date.

Theoldwoman · 04/04/2023 09:52

Very low key.
Long dog walks, naps, house Reno’s ( ongoing) gardening, out for birthday dinner, a bit of chocolate. Hmm I think that’s all.

Yes can do everything this year so very happy to do so. Even got a sim El cake.

sybil40 · 04/04/2023 14:38

@Always4Brenner

Simnel cake, It has been years since I had one.

A very Happy Easter to you. and to the others celebrating the true Easter. The start of Christianity.

mamaduckbone · 04/04/2023 14:48

Friday - SIL and partner here for lunch. Dh said he'll make hot cross buns. Ds17 working, ds13 out with friends.
Saturday - Dh and ds2 at a rugby camp. I'm at dm's with my brother doing some garden jobs.
Sunday - ds1 working until 3, Dh and ds2 home around midday. There will be chocolate, and maybe a bbq. We've been invited to my brother's for tea, with my mum, nephew and his wife and kids, which will be the only point in the weekend that we will all be in the same place at the same time.
No bunting or cutesy eggs here. I might buy a bunch of daffs!

golddustwomen · 04/04/2023 14:56

We are not religious in any shape or form in this house so no church or anything. We have our first bbq of the year Easter Sunday (hopefully!) and the kids get some chocolate eggs. The kids enjoy having their dad home for an extra 2 days as he works very long hours usually.

WordleInTwo · 04/04/2023 14:59

Surely you're never too old for an Easter egg?

No-one told me that! I'm in my 50's and am looking forward to mine.

Other than that the lamb roast has been overruled in favour of chicken. Shame because I love lamb.

Might stagger out for a long walk too at some stage.

xogossipgirlxo · 04/04/2023 15:11

Thursday pm: concert
Friday, Saturday: husband's home, as he's working during Easter, so no pressure to do anything. Bit of cleaning and cooking for sure, but not too much.
Sunday, Monday: husband is working, so relaxing morning and early afternoon for me, we will celebrate when he's back.

No decorations, lots of food etc.

MyMachineAndMe · 04/04/2023 15:11

An egg hunt on the Sunday for my two dc, who are 10 & 12, and that's it. We do have bunting in the living room window but that's because dc 2 made it and put it up. It's been there 2 weeks so far.

pavillion1 · 03/04/2023 23:19

just taken out a loan for the lamb 😬

Same. But I don't remember any adverts telling me to. I do it because I looooove it

twolilacs · 04/04/2023 15:18

There will be Easter eggs, but no hot cross buns as we have those on Good Friday. There will also be lamb, because we usually do at Easter, and would be having a roast dinner anyway, so might as well have that as anything else. A decent joint of lamb costs a packet, so we don't have it very often. Dessert will probably be something lemony of some description. Either that or strawberries.

I might make a fruit cake for tea, haven't done one for ages.
