Would you expect a refund?

Hi! Imagine if you ordered a few dishes from a caterer. Total came to 60 pounds. You paid in advance.

You were supposed to pick your food up on Friday but are too busy so tell the caterer you would pick the food up on Saturday instead but Saturday comes and you're not able to pick it up (and caterer can't deliver because they live around 1 hour away).
Sunday the food would go bad.

Would you expect a refund, a partial refund, or no refund?

No refund at all. It's not the caterers fault the client was not able to collect.

Veryfishy · 01/04/2023 15:31

They did pay in advance , sorry

RunningFromInsanity · 01/04/2023 15:31

No refund and a good job you got paid in full!

Rauha · 01/04/2023 15:33

No refund (and the thread is not a reverse).

LumpyandBumps · 01/04/2023 15:41

No refund, and if they had only paid 50% deposit they would still owe the other 50% irrespective of whether or not they collected.
I hope you were able to make some use of the food though, as such a waste otherwise.

PickledPurplePickle · 01/04/2023 15:47

No refund they are being completely unreasonable

You need to get signed contracts in place with your customers though being very clear on your T&Cs to avoid things like this happening

MumOf2workOptions · 01/04/2023 15:48

Definately no refund what a waste they can't reuse it

LIZS · 01/04/2023 15:48

If you had enough notice to sell it on to offset part of the cost, maybe then a part refund. Otherwise can you donate it to a community fridge or project.

shoofly · 01/04/2023 15:48

No refund and I'd point out that your profit is highly unlikely to be 50% of the £60. So she's either asking you to work for nothing or subsidise her inability to collect her order.

avocadotofu · 01/04/2023 15:50

No refund.

No refunds

zurala · 01/04/2023 15:53

The client is a cheeky fucker. No refund, and blacklist them

Clymene · 01/04/2023 15:54

Of course no refund. You did exactly what they paid you to do. It's not your fault they're too stupid to collect.

Viviennemary · 01/04/2023 15:56

Of course the buyer wouldnt get a refund. They didnt collect the food as agreed.

Yabu for posting a reverse

It isn't a reverse as OP never said they were the customer, just set out the scenario and asked for opinions.

I wouldn't expect a refund, but then again I wouldn't have paid 100% upfront if there was any doubt about picking it up.

Do people not understand what a reverse is?

Poppyblush · 01/04/2023 16:03

No refund

704703hey · 01/04/2023 16:03

Unless they're a repeat customer, no reason. If they're usually a good customer perhaps 50% refund.

They do sound disorganised 😕

704703hey · 01/04/2023 16:03

**refund sorry

This.

Lindy2 · 01/04/2023 16:08

No refund.

You make sure you are available to collect your purchase.

Chewbecca · 01/04/2023 16:21

No refund in principle BUT it depends entirely on what your contract/ terms say.

If they say 50% on ordering and 50% on collection and make no mention of what if it is not collected, then I think only 50% is payable. And the terms and conditions need updating.

AlbertaAnnie · 01/04/2023 16:22

No refund - you fulfilled your obligations

Movinghouseatlast · 01/04/2023 16:24

Absolutely no refund. Cheeky bustards. I do despair at people.

IsadoraQuagmire · 01/04/2023 16:25

Definitely no refund. And anyone asking for one would be a prize CF.
