Massive wallets. Am I missing out?

My sister is a Massive Wallet user. She bought me one for my birthday so I can join the crew.

I usually use something like this. It has room for 9 cards, notes and a zip bit for coins.

The one she’s bought me is this size.

So, will my life be changed if I use it? So far all I can see is that it won’t fit in my pocket.

What’s the benefit of a bigger one?

Haven’t had one for 10 years I think, don’t know anyone who has one either. Everything is on my phone.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/04/2023 17:27

I don’t use purse, wallet, or bag.

Just phone and Apple Pay. Don’t carry cash anymore. Never need it or use it.

GreyCarpet · 01/04/2023 17:28

I don't use a wallet at all.

I bought one a few years ago but got rid of it. I use my phone for most stuff and, if i neeed to carry cash, I have a bra 🤷🏻‍♀️

FusionChefGeoff · 01/04/2023 17:28

I've ditched wallets altogether - I've got one at home but it just sits in a basket - I use my phone now.

Theturtlethatcried · 01/04/2023 17:31

Used to have a big wallet but since covid I bought a phone case with slots for a couple of cards and a driving license and that’s all I use now. I have no idea why I was carrying around a dozen loyalty cards, loads of coins, multiple credit cards etc because I have never missed any of it. I never use cash. If I go out I just put keys and phone in my pocket, don’t even use a handbag.

If I could just operate my car and front door with my phone too….

WhisperingAutistic · 01/04/2023 17:31

I love how many people now go without a handbag. Horrible, cumbersome things.
I also just use my phone and love pockets.

endoftheworldniteclub · 01/04/2023 17:46

Our banks don’t even accept cash anymore. No stores that I know of either, at least not in our shopping centres. No need for a wallet/purse.

I don’t care if it’s called a wallet or a purse, but does anyone have any insight into the benefits of a bigger sized one?

My friend uses the larger one and keeps her phone inside it. Carrying everything at once works for her and she leaves her handbag behind.
Mine is midway between yours and hers as I prefer all my cards and cash in one place with phone and change purse separate in a very small crossbody bag. It has a clear ID window and two zip compartments in addition to everything else.
When I'm travelling I use one the size you favour- don't need reward cards abroad!
Semantically I think of a wallet as carrying everything but a purse is just for coins.
But where I'm from a purse is a wallet and a handbag is a purse!

So, I think I’ve gathered

they’re easier to find in your bag
you can put other bits in them too
you could use it instead of a bag

I’m thinking I’m happy with my small one.

thanks everyone!

Time hath, my lord, a wallet at his back,
Wherein he puts alms for oblivion,
A great-sized monster of ingratitudes:
Those scraps are good deeds past; which are devour'd
As fast as they are made, forgot as soon
As done: perseverance, dear my lord,
Keeps honour bright: to have done is to hang
Quite out of fashion, like a rusty mail
In monumental mockery.

PinkSyCo · 01/04/2023 18:03

10cms is massive now? Blimey I’ve obviously been spoilt! As for wallets I just use my phone case.

QuintanaRoo · 01/04/2023 18:08

I’m amazed anyone still uses a purse/wallet at all never mind a big one. I use my apple watch and iPhone and that’s it. Everything I need is on there, I have some cash in the car for shopping trolleys and old fashioned car parks.

QuintanaRoo · 01/04/2023 18:10

I don’t use a handbag either. Phone goes in a pocket or my bra.

DappledThings · 01/04/2023 18:22

I quite like having enough slots all my cards (around 10 I think) to be nicely spaced out. Plus somewhere to put stamps, receipts etc.

And occasional cash for school donation days, church etc.

It's definitely a purse though. DH has a wallet, I have a purse. Never heard anyone call a purse a wallet or vice versa.

MarissaG · 01/04/2023 18:32

Just use my phone. All cards, including store cards are on there. Sometimes I put my card in my phone case if I’m going far from home, otherwise I don’t bother. I have a tiny purse that I keep cash in but I only have cash from Marketplace sales. Otherwise I have pockets. Or pockets within my backpack.

Lastnamedidntstick · 01/04/2023 18:34

No need.

phone, applepay. No need to carry anything else.

sometimes put an emergency card in the phone case.

Not everyone wants to live in a cashless society. ‘Amazing’ I know!

TwigTheWonderKid · 01/04/2023 18:41

As my children have got older I have been delighted that my handbags have got smaller and smaller. My current bag is big enough for keys, a teeny hairbrush, lipstick and my very slimline card holder. That giant purse is not much smaller than my bag!

No, but what do you do when you can’t actually pay with cash anymore. When not even the banks accept cash.

mybeautifuloak · 01/04/2023 19:06

I use my phone case. 2 cards and £20 note. I pay with my phone. The cards are for just in case. All my loyalty cards are uploaded onto an app. What else do you need a wallet for.

It’s not about what I want or don’t want. Loads of shops don’t take cash anymore. Even my village chip shop is card only! I get it’s not great for everyone but I’m not going to carry it around if it’s no use to me.

No one’s saying you should carry cash around if it’s of no use to you, but I’m not sure why you’re amazed that many people still like to use cash.

It’s only coming to that because we’re allowing ourselves to be forced -and in some cases (read above) even being shamed-into using tech to pay for things though.

A few years ago I'd have used one of those big wallets, I used to carr6 around all my store cards and debit cards etc and cash.

These days I usually just take my phone which has stocard app for the store cards and Apple Pay. I have a small coin purse I keep in the car with about ten pounds in change for weird parking places.

All my store cards are on apps on my phone as well. I have a phone case and keep my debut card and driving licence in it. No need for a purse or a wallet.

It’s not 10cm. It’s 20x11.
