After the Guinea pig thread, on which which I enthusiastically posted piggy pictures, turned out to be a troll, I thought that there should be a genuine appreciation thread for these cute, demanding, potato shaped poop machines!
These are a selection of mine.
(Also, wtf would you start a troll thread about guinea pigs?!)

Thank you for this. I’ve never had one but have always adored them. Friends always send me cards and gifs with them on. Such cuties.

BonnieMummy · 31/03/2023 16:29

@vix3rd Not Donna! I have a cat too and a dog (and 3 dc!) I’m definitely a crazy Guinea pig lady though!

@Oxborn Potatoes!!!! 💕

@gingeristhenewblack43 SO much hard work at times but look at their little faces!

@catscatscurrantscurrants I am going to look up that show later!

@Ambi sorry for your loss 😞My lovely piggy with the crest (and green bow in the photo) died a few months ago and I was distraught.

@PensionPuzzle we now have fleece liners, previously used shavings but I have back problems and cleaning out the shavings then breaking up the fresh ones would have my back buggered for days after. The fleece liners make cage cleaning days so much easier for me. I have a pet washing machine bag so the liner goes in there and my machine doesn't get clogged with hair and hay.

When I take the fleece liner out of the cage I take it outside and give it a good brush to get rid of as much hair and hay as possible. They need to be washed on 30 degrees with no fabric conditioner and they don't take long to dry. The liners should wick away the urine so the top remains dry. I underline the liner with paper or puppy pads to add an extra layer of absorbency.

I did worry about the girls chewing at the fleece liner as one will chew anything but she's not bothered it. I also worried about their nails catching but they've had no issues in 6 months of having the liners.

The initial outlay can be expensive but was worth being able to walk and sit down without back pain. I get mine from Cozi Creationz on facebook.

@BonnieMummy love the mugs! Where are they from??

Poor Fleur and her big bones. She looks like my (my DD's) Pancake 😍

MissShapesMissStakes · 31/03/2023 16:47

They are such great pets. We've always had boy pairs until recently when we rescued a boy who would NOT settle for another boy, despite the plan to pair him up with a newly single boy we had.

So he's been castrated and now my kids (and me) and looking forward to gradually getting more girls. The aim is to have the spare room as one huge c and c cage for a nice group of girls (plus one) eventually.

Dh isn't happy as we now have hairy potatoes in two rooms because the girl can't be around the other boys - she'd mess with their heads apparently.

Has anyone had a female in the same room as a boar pair - does it cause issues?

@piggiepic SO cute and fluffy!

Thank you 🥰 He is fabulous. As are all the other furry potatoes on this thread.

Random789 · 31/03/2023 19:58

So many gorgeous guinea pig pictures. Very cheering.

There was a guinea pig troll?! What was the motivation? Fishing for guinea pig porn pics, or just stirring up division in the piggist community?

KathieFerrars · 01/04/2023 10:40

This is the best thread. Have been ghastly poorly and the piggie pics have raised a rare smile. Thank you. We had piggies when we were little. The squeeking was so cute.

As for a guinea pig troll - that too is somewhat hysterical.

They said they regretted getting GPs because they poo so much. Maybe it was the poo troll trying a new avenue? Very weird anyway

AchillesLastStand · 01/04/2023 11:39

Here’s my gorgeous guinea, Flo. She’s a teddy breed and she’ll be 5 in June. I love her to bits.

Dougie and Dave. Dave has just eaten a carrot so has orange staining around his mouth. They enjoy lap time each evening when we put them on a puppy pad (because of course they’re going to poop and wee) and enjoy strokes and being brushed. I can’t wait for the weather to improve when we can put them out in the run in the garden.

Bean (my boy)
Sophie
Nacho
Cheese
Toast
Bellatrix
Fleur Delacour

(all rescue piggies and I kept their original names, apart Bella who is so feisty that she became Bellatrix, and Fleur who is so sweet that she became Fleur Delacour!)

Love this thread! I couldn’t get on board with the original saying guineas were more work than dogs, not surprised it was a wind up.
