After the Guinea pig thread, on which which I enthusiastically posted piggy pictures, turned out to be a troll, I thought that there should be a genuine appreciation thread for these cute, demanding, potato shaped poop machines!
These are a selection of mine.
(Also, wtf would you start a troll thread about guinea pigs?!)

Photo didn't work...

What’s the cake made from

Deathraystare · 31/03/2023 12:44

Absolutely adorable!Under the pets posts is one for small pets so you could post there as well.

Ours was called Pinkie Puff (after a cartoon elephant I think!). I love the way their back legs look like they are wearing heels. Ours was ginger and dark brown. She once stared down our cat who walked away, backwards!

@Oxborn
Whizz up their nuggets in the processor, add water to make dough and bake them 150°c til firm.
Mashed banana 'buttercream' and chopped up carrots on top.
As I said, the things I do!

Some gorgeous piggies on here

I used to attend animal college, and you could hear those piggies wheeking rooms away when food was involved.

Definitely will try this

Gorgeous piggies. Mine aren't up for posing right now. I did think it was weird that someone thought looking after dogs was easier than guinea pigs.

woodhill · 31/03/2023 13:01

Love the hat. They are so gorgeous

Thanks for sharing

I miss the pigs so much

bizzywiththefizzy · 31/03/2023 13:50

I love all your piggies I used to have them but not anymore . They were such good friends with my dogs . Used to follow my Lab and Retriever around the garden .

Splodgerbodgerbadger · 31/03/2023 13:59

All gorgeous piggies, our girls are nearly 3 I’ve always loved Guinea pigs and my husband was never interested until we got them and realised what adorable potatoes they are. We let them have a run around in the house in the afternoons and they always follow us into the kitchen and if you dare open the fridge or back door (grass), the wheek alarm goes off.

I love their quirks and personalities.

BonnieMummy · 31/03/2023 14:10

@OldTinHat some more hats 🥰

God i miss my the DCs pigs!

We got our first by accident when we rescued an unloved rabbit. There was a piggie lurking in the back of the hutch.

We went out and bought a book about guinea pigs, read they shouldn't be in with rabbits, so we bought a great big new home for the piggie, read they shouldn't be alone, so we went and bought a friend for her.

The rabbit moved on to someone with other rabbits ...

.... roll on a couple of years and we had accrued 15 piggies! 😂 A few were more rescues, a couple were sad ones looking maltreated in pet shops which we couldn't turn our backs on, and 6 were from 2 litters of babies born to 2 of the rescues.

They would all run round the lawn together and then we'd have hells delight fun getting them into the house and cozy every night.

Once one (Hazel) got out and disappeared into the fields :( We hunted for her for hours with bits of carrot and rustly salad bags. No luck. DCs were devastated.

Guess who was sitting in the middle of the lawn waiting for her friends to be bought out the next morning when i opened the curtains!? 😃

Happy days 😊

RandomMess · 31/03/2023 15:03

Don’t you mean all wheek? 😆

PensionPuzzle · 31/03/2023 15:14

I can't wait til we can get some piggies again, at the moment we have small children and a dog who ONLY reacts to guineas and rabbits 🙄 whilst not wishing her away I'm hoping to have a break from having a dog once she's no longer with us, until the kids are teens anyway. So guineas will fill that hole and I won't be even the slightest bit bothered about doing all the work for them, because they will be for me, me, me!

I do have a Q though, bedding has obviously moved on since I last had them but I can't get my head round the fleece stuff! What's the advantage of that over, say, large flake shavings, or that fresh stuff that looks like pocket lint that i've seen in the pet shops? Obviously will do more research nearer the time but this seems a good thread to ask on and obviously look at lovely piccies as well 🙂

@PensionPuzzle The fleeces are like rugs with a waterproof base. They soak up moisture and go into a washing machine. More expensive initially but you don't need other bedding (just hay to eat /play with) so less messy and cheaper in the long run.

Deathraystare · 31/03/2023 16:01

@Laiste

What a lovely story about Hazel! Cheeky piggy!

BonnieMummy · 31/03/2023 16:22

I currently have 7 and have fostered a couple recently until they went to their own little herd.
I do little photoshoots with my foster piggies too!
All mine are rescue piggies and they really do have the best little personalities. My most dominant pig is very shouty and yells at me for food every time I walk in the room!!
