Have you ever been unable to watch an actor again after a particular performance?

For example: I saw Christian Bale in American Psycho when it came out and he played the role so completely I have never been able to watch him in anything again.

For that reason I refused to watch David Tennant as Dennis Nilson. I can't be put off DT.

Daniel Craig in Munich. The ACCENT.

I cannot stand Jim Carey’s style of acting. In anything. Ever.

Same here

Crutcher I saw David Schwimmer on Celebrity Bake Off recently and thought he was adorable!

At least you don't disagree on Emma Watson.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/03/2023 22:57

Helena Bingham carter, after Sweeny Todd. Makes me feel sick.

I'm sad to say Dominic West as Fred West scarred me for life. Can't watch him anymore.

Well as a result of this thread I'm now watching it, my god what an actor!

Not quite the same thing, but Tom Hiddleston after that underwear shoot.

Or the granola one...

@Seeleyboo I recommend Alex Ferns (Trevor) in Joyeux Noel if you don't mind subtitles- it's about Scottish/French/German soldiers taking part in the Christmas truce during WWI. Definitely made him seem less scary.

Of course, there's the school of thought that says people are less scary when you imagine them with their clothes off. So there's always the Chernobyl series 😂

Hahaha. I'll give it a go.

Javier Bardem after Goya's Ghosts. He does some terrible things to Natalie Portman's character in it, had to turn it off at one point and I just can't even look at him anymore

ToffeeNotCoffee · 31/03/2023 13:24

David Tenant as Denis Nilsen was sublime.

For the sake of a wig and a pair of glasses...his acting was superb.

QueefQueen80s yes he was amazing in that, as was Monica Dolan as Rose West. She's brilliant in everything though. And he's a very good Prince Charles in The Crown

She really was, so very believable. Evan Peters blew me away as Jeffrey Dahmer. I bet it's a whole other experience having to absorb themselves in becoming these dark characters.

I know it’s fictional but Heath Ledger as the joker was another one like this. He said he stayed in character for most of the length of the production and felt in a very dark place because of it all. Sad, but so amazing to watch.

I came to say this. He was amazing/horrific.

Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl. It traumatised me. When she did CBeebies bedtime stories after and I heard the voice I had to switch off. Can’t watch anything with her in it now!

I struggle with Evan Peters even though he's a great actor. He arouses me beyond belief.

Wacadu · 31/03/2023 23:20

Jack Nicholson in The Shining. I couldn't watch him for years afterwards.

UkuleleRose · 31/03/2023 23:24

I love Tim Curry, however he's forever Dr. Frank-N-Furter in my eyes.

Octopusmittens · 31/03/2023 23:24

Tom Hiddleston after the ‘Taylor Swift T shirt’ debacle.

I struggle with John Lithgow after his turn as the trinity killer in Dexter. He creeps me out in everything now, even stuff I've seen before Dexter.

I agree, that part was perfect for him and probably one of his best performances. I can't think of him as anything but that character now.

QueefQueen80s · 01/04/2023 12:25

Yes John Lithgow was an AMAZING actor in Dexter 🖤 He even said on Twitter that he scared himself! You could see he was his usual bouncy self in the bits where he was "good" but the dark bits were so believable.

"Oh gosh to my huge shame at the time i was strangely drawn to 'Wild Bill' (the child killer 😳) in The Green Mile.

It was the first time i'd seen Sam Rockwell in anything, didn't know him at all.

Now i've seen him in other things i can forgive myself a little because i quite fancy him in everything else as well."

Then there's Doug Hutchison (Percy) in that film. That character is absolutely detestable. He's a major sleazeball in real life as well, in his 50s at one point and being with a 16 year old girl.
