What do you actually want for your birthday?

Maybe something people wouldn’t think you would like?

Maybe something that’s actually really simple?

Maybe something crazy out there?

Am I shamelessly hoping I can steal some gift ideas for my dear mothers upcoming birthday? Yes I am!

I would really love some new pots for my garden. And candles, I actually love candles but no one ever buys them for me…maybe I wouldn’t love them so much if they did 😁

I took my mum for afternoon tea on Sunday as a Mother's Day present and was also her birthday a few weeks ago. She said she never has to think of a present again as in she wants the same for every birthday and Mother's Day 😀

Definitely things that are affordable but expensive: good skincare, nice bath and shower stuff - things I could buy for myself but wouldn't bother because of the relative expense

It was my birthday recently and i had:

  • lots of flowers
  • quite a few chocolates (now disappeared!)
  • champagne
  • Cowshed vouchers (have already used on said expensive bath stuff)
  • a theatre trip
  • a ReMarkable (I made Dh get it for me, definitely worth it if it's your sort of thing)
Beaniesmumsie · 28/03/2023 21:14

A nice long bath just by myself. And for my 2 yo to be her very funny self without the mood swing and the screaming… that’s probably not possible

emituofo · 28/03/2023 21:19

I love candles too, hubby bought me a candle making kit for my birthday, it was quite easy and fun to make my own candles. I then offered some of the candles I made to friends as gifts.

I also bought myself a Diptyque EDP for my birthday.

Beaglesonlyplease · 28/03/2023 21:43

My birthday is also coming up.
Im definitely not a candle person.
I’d love Mussini oil paints because I love painting.
Or red charcoal.
More paintbrushes and palette knives.
A Jo Malone perfume
Garden plants - especially a David Austin rose
Sarah Miller cushions
Notebooks (love them!)
Books
Champagne
vintage style little mirrors (like in Oriana B shop)
Vintage glasses
Mint Velvet scarf

HydrangeaHo · 28/03/2023 21:51

Don't know how old your mother is but I'm going to be 65 next week.
I don't really want anything, if i did I'd buy it.

More importantly please do not buy me an experience. Not ever.
Nor do i want a holiday / hotel break.

No tickets to theatre.
No candles or cosmetics.
No hampers.

What I like
Plants
Garden gloves, small tools.
Fabric
Wool for crochet
Books

DS1 is taking me out for a meal. That'll be lovely.
DH has some bought sewing accessories.
DS2will get me flowers which I love.

My birthday soon and I know what I want, obviously not expecting to get everything

A new handbag
Earrings
Face creams
Posh hair heat protector spray
Trainers
Wireless earbuds
Plant

A night away in a hotel on my own. A nice hotel with good room service, no husband and no kids. Just silence and a huge bed to myself.

JarByTheDoor · 28/03/2023 22:13

I was given various amounts of money and Amazon vouchers for my birthday and Christmas. I redesignated the Amazon vouchers for routine spending, and mentally allocated the equivalent in fun money to my birthday/Christmas money total.

Then I bought a Steam Deck.

I know that doesn't sound as age-appropriate as wine, accessories, candles, gardening things, massages, all these lovely things that I think more sophisticated women in their late thirties are probably meant to prefer, but dammit, what I actually wanted was all my PC games on a powerful handheld system, so that's what I bought.

It's beautiful 😭

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 28/03/2023 22:21

I would like a leather handbag, fashionable, but classic, large enough to put a water bottle in, plenty of pockets, that goes over my shoulder but doesn't make me look fatter than I already am, and - this is the hard bit that I actually like! (I have not been able to find this despite months of searching the Internet)

I'd also like a weekend in a hotel with a lovely swimming pool and interesting restaurant for just me, on my own.

A new swimming costume (see above re: fatness)

ShakeYourFeathers · 28/03/2023 22:23

A nice 1/2 night weekend bag. Not too big but can pack essentials

MammaWeasel · 28/03/2023 22:24

My birthday is coming up and I am having an overlocker and a Chilly's series 2 Liberty coffee travel cup. I am so excited!

JarByTheDoor · 28/03/2023 22:28

@GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut you mean I need to worry about whether my bag makes me look fat?! 😱

Loafbeginsat60 · 28/03/2023 22:29

Boots from Fairfax and favour
Or a coat, belt, bag, shoes

So pretty much anything in a blue box 😂

MyBestFriendKenny · 28/03/2023 22:30

It's my birthday today.

I got some nice things. If I was writing a suggestions list I'd put:

Theatre tickets
Anything in Jo Malone Red Roses
Ren Skincare
Really nice chocolates
Amazon vouchers to indulge my ruinous Kindle deals habit
Someone to take my children so my DH and I can have a night away!

Carsarelife · 28/03/2023 22:31

Diptyque candle
Penhaligons perfume
Emma bridgewater mug
Silver necklace from silver seas jewellery
Really good hand cream

Chocolatesandroses · 28/03/2023 22:33

I‘m after something like this-have you found a nice one??

Yellowdays · 28/03/2023 22:36

Experiences. That what I often get, happily. And plants. For example, I was just bought half a dozen dahlias from a specialist grower for a Mother's Day gift.

MyBestFriendKenny · 28/03/2023 22:36

Thank you x

MrsK23 · 28/03/2023 22:36

My birthday is coming up soon🥳 I love all things luxurious- a massage, afternoon tea, hotel stay (if someone really wanted to splash out). I also like vouchers to get things I wouldn’t normally spend my own money on- nice home wear, bits for the garden etc. A really nice item of jewellery or wine and flowers are always winners too 💐

Basically just all the lovely little things in life xx

Egghead68 · 28/03/2023 22:37

Wine and chocolate
