The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

All perfectly normal

NEW: Suella Braverman says she considered posing as a radio phone-in caller to defend herself from racism accusations.

In a Spectator column Braverman said "Last week a radio show had a phone-in asking listeners to debate whether I’m a racist. I thought about calling in as Margaret from Fareham, to suggest the Home Secretary take courage from another Margaret’s words"

I guess she doesn't have much else to do as Home Secretary?

I just watched the launch of Elon Musk's Spaceship rocket that exploded just after take off, or as they call it '"Rapid unscheduled disassembly"'

The government came to mind

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/04/2023 15:59

Doesn’t appear to be anything rapid about Raab’s disassembly. Hurry up already.

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2023 16:11

True, that is a slow burner. They did pause the countdown clock at the launch.

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2023 16:14

I thought it was going to be quicker than this. I wonder if Sunak is looking for loopholes to keep him?

Haha... surely they were lying misspeaking

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2023 16:46

I think almost certainly Sunak is trying to find ways to keep Raab. Interesting that Sunak spoke to his ethics advisor before getting rid of Zahawi but doesn't feel he needs the same advice for Raab.

Cornettoninja · 20/04/2023 16:54

They’re really stringing out the raab report aren’t they? Surely it’s not that complex.

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2023 16:56

If the report contained anything positive we would have known by now, Sunak must be calculating the risks

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2023 16:58

There was an episode of the Newsagents roundabout November time last year about the use of Non Disclosure Agreements by Raab. I don't suppose we will never know how many people they have actually had to pay to achieve silence but his track record with junior staff is abysmal.
Sunak would have known all about it.

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2023 16:59

ever not never!

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2023 17:02

Of course if they'd had any scruples whatsoever he would been sacked for staying on holiday as Kabul fell.

Yes

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2023 17:16

Sky is saying no announcement today.

That Mr Softie jibe will come to haunt Sunak

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2023 17:52

Sir Softie. We know how much the Conservative party despise the honours system (unless the recipient is Stanley Johnson, the head of the Institute of Economic Affairs, the Editor of the Daily Mail, Michelle Mone or useful ex Russian citizens).

Sir Dominic soon? It worked for Gavin Williamson

Notonthestairs · 20/04/2023 18:53

Oh good grief yes - Sir Bully Version 2
(Williamson is Sir Bully v 1)

Cornettoninja · 20/04/2023 18:59

bloody hope so. That smug, pleased with himself tone raises my blood pressure.

jgw1 · 20/04/2023 19:06

Have I got this right, Johnson appointed a known sex pest and then was surprised that they were a sex pest. Sunak has appointed a known bully and is about to appear surprised that they are a bully.

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/04/2023 19:08

Yes. New government same as the old one.

RafaistheKingofClay · 20/04/2023 19:09

I mean he’s not a buffoon and doesn’t lie quite as much but there are more similarities than differences.

newnamethanks · 20/04/2023 19:12

If only we'd all studied Maths until 18 we could be passing time by working out the probability of Sunak saving Raab's skin. Low, hopefully.

DuncinToffee · 20/04/2023 19:33

Former civil servant who told ITV his colleagues were “terrified” of Dominic Raab, and wants him sanctioned, tells us: “any hopes I had are just about obliterated”

Does that mean Sunak is trying to think of every way possible to let him off the hook, preparing a public statement to that effect.
What a surprise

In a nutshell
