The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

The reasoning online for the boundaries changing is to make constituencies more equal in size across the U.K.

I personally think it's because Tory's think they have more chance of winning because of how Proportionate voting works (cynical!)

L1ttledrummergirl · 06/04/2023 13:07

That boundary is insane. Thank-you for the link.

Benton discusses hospitality 🙄

Sunak’s government is delaying full Brexit customs checks on goods entering Britain from the EU until the end of October 2024. Which tells you he plans to hold the election before then, since havoc will follow.

Guess the Easter Dover delays got the alarm bells ringing

Guess the Easter Dover delays got the alarm bells ringing

They weren't anything to do with Brexit, they happen every year (except all the years when they don't happen).

DuncinToffee · 06/04/2023 20:39

Sorry, I forgot about the slow French stampers

It's taken them a YEAR to confirm that they don't have any evidence to back up their claims?

pointythings · 08/04/2023 13:24

Of course it has. They didn't want to admit that they had no evidence so they've hemmed and hawed and held off as long as bloody possible. Sadly I am not at all surprised.

Well it's a good job that they've gone out of their way to correct the record - nobody knows better than the Government that facts matter.

Meanwhile is anyone surprised by this? We really don't do anything by evidence, do we?

There's something to plonk on every MN thread that makes those claims...

My poor eyes! Rolling so much.

Notonthestairs · 08/04/2023 19:47

Interesting how they've announced that there's no evidence whilst Parliament is in recess. Another week and who knows what will be said/done!

itsgettingweird · 08/04/2023 21:52

Yes.

And I'll be mentioning it in RL to those who make the claims too.

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/04/2023 10:52

If they tracked it back, they'd likely find it in their own pockets, via the mates they gave the dodgy contracts to.

IClaudine · 09/04/2023 11:37

This is good news and will be very upsetting for Rees-Mogg.

Lonelycrab · 09/04/2023 13:10

Yes very glad to read that about the retained EU law act. Hope what they’re reporting there is true. “Constitutional monstrosity” is a good description.

Oh come on, surely they can just get some Union Flag stickers, plaster them all over the relevant pieces of paper, job done. After Louise has conceded she would be perfectly happy to see EU laws scrapped and replaced with a British law that was word for word identical.

Just replacing the letters EU with just about anything would make Brexiteers happy 🦄

IClaudine · 09/04/2023 11:37

I think it is important to remember that if legislation delegates authority to the relevant minister to make decisions about it, as for example in the case of sentencing guidelines then those guidelines have absolutely nothing to do with the minister or government, but are instead entirely the fault of someone on an advisory committee.

From this we can see that, ministers who have not bothered to look at why the very many EU laws that are in UK law are a good thing, are not at fault, but instead it is the fault of the committee they appointed to advise about which to keep and which not to.
