Really don't think that's great casting...

The character is supposed to be incredibly good looking in a classical way and arrogant/icy that actor just isn't.

In that pic he comes across as a cheeky East end gangster, not an upper-class womaniser.

Taggie aways looked like CZJ in Darling Buds Of May for me. In fact she’d have been a great Maud now.

I think the casting is great. I wouldn’t have picked David Tennant as Tony Baddingham but he’s brilliant in everything so it’s given me confidence that this might actually be pretty good.

I don't know if you ever watched Secret Smile on ITV about a million years ago, but he played the baddie in that, and in the book the character was stocky with wiry black hair. DT looked nothing like him but conveyed the nastiness and the sexiness perfectly. Obviously that book is not known to the extent that Rivals is.

I heard that RCB was modelled on Andrew Parker Bowles, who is not, err, conventionally good looking. Though apparently charismatic.

Oooh that’s some interesting casting for Rupert. I hadn’t heard of Hassell before but - those eyes! They definitely say “I’d treat you terribly and break your heart but it’d be so worth it.”

That said I always pictured Rupert much more like Austin Butler…

Er. Interesting? He really isn't good looking enough IMHO.

And I agree with pp that Taggie would be CZJ or Liv Tyler, but the actress' eye are stunning, so that's just hair dye.

I agree with that, Rupert Penry Jones would be perfect as RCB. I think they should have cast David Tennant as Declan O'Hara, I think he seems more suited to that role. I think Victoria Smurfit will be perfect as Maud. Danny Dyer, jeez. Of course the perfect actor for the part of Freddie Jones would have been the late, great Bob Hoskins.

I love these books too much to see them brought to life, they’ll never be right or how I imagined them in my head. And people like David Tennant, Danny Dyer and Emily Atack are too well known for me to see them as anyone other than themselves.

I’ve never worked out who should be Rupert but Taggie was always a young Julia Roberts for me and Lysander from TMWMHJ is Eddie Redmayne.
