Just received an email from Tesco telling me their exciting Reward Voucher changes 😡

If we’re all sitting comfortably the exciting news is from the 14th June they are changing the vouchers so that when we exchange club card vouchers for fun days out they will now only be worth 2x the value instead of 3x.

Well thank you very much Tesco. In a cost of living crisis when the supermarkets are earning a fortune we really appreciate you robbing our children of fun family days out. Absolutely brilliant. Slow hand clap for you and your shareholders.

Seriously? It used to be 4x, then it was reduced to 3x. At 2x it's barely worth it.

I haven't had that email yet.

mysparkleismissing · 17/03/2023 21:27

Oh that's disappointing!

Moveforward · 17/03/2023 21:28

I often read this stuff and feel like replying
......please.define exciting!

Had a lovely letter today about my 20k ISA.

"Its worth 17k and we've charged you £400. If we hadn't charged you it would be worth £17.4k"

Great...don't charge me then!!!

We got this email too! Tbh the points were the only reason we stayed as we get a free weekend away a couple of times a year. Not any more so why be loyal when they do nothing to reward your loyalty?!

RudsyFarmer · 17/03/2023 21:31

I did reply with the word Scumbags. Honestly I’m fucking furious. They’ve had so much of my money over the years. I’m going to be reverting back to using Amex for the cash back and rethink who our other card is with. It was only Tesco for the reward vouchers.

Id actually rather they were just honest than send a shit sandwich. Electricity in the store is now too high so we’re going to rob your kids. Sorry. Least I’d respect their candour.

Trainstrike · 17/03/2023 21:33

Yes we'll be changing to Aldi now, we only used to use Tesco to get a discounted Eurotunnel or ferry to the cheapest Eurocamp we could afford. We've been slowly decreasing our Tesco use anyway as the prices have shot up but this will be the nail in the coffin now!

ShowOfHands · 17/03/2023 21:36

"Scumbags"? "Robbing"?

It's regrettable and disappointing but they aren't in your house, nicking your ornaments. Or are they?

Apologies ….. Alessandra. I should at least get her name right.

The poor economy affects businesses too.

RudsyFarmer · 17/03/2023 21:47

My heart breaks for the shareholders it really does.

I don't use Tesco much, but I do spend far too much on their credit card.

I'll use my IHG card now and try and spend less anyway.

WoWsers16 · 17/03/2023 21:50

It's still better than nothing - honestly their clubcard prices are well worth it and I don't see the massive issue. Yes I love the points and have used them for extra things I often can't afford (days out etc..) but with business everyone is suffering - big names like Tesco are not untouchable when it comes to everything that's happening.

To be utterly furious I just find OTT x

RudsyFarmer · 17/03/2023 21:50

I’ve just googled that card and I’ll have a read about the benefits tomorrow.

I’m incensed because I know so many people that rely on that scheme to take their children to places they would t be able to afford otherwise. It just feels like such a low blow to families who are already struggling.

Ah yes I'm sure their 2.4bn operating profit predicted for the past year really can't afford to give people the 3x anymore and that they are all skint!

WoWsers16 · 17/03/2023 22:06

The amount of people who use the vouchers probably cost them millions - I know talking to someone who works at Tescos how hard things are.

I use the vouchers for day trips with my kids I won't be able to afford now, but it was a bonus not a given right to get the vouchers x4 or x3.

Each store is different and I still think Tescos clubcard offers some really good perks. It's not a given right to have free things x

The flaw in this point however is that their record profits have been broadcast everywhere.

Pearfacebananapoop · 17/03/2023 22:34

Is it reducing to 2x on everything?

mushroom3 · 17/03/2023 23:11

yes x2 on everything

ducktape · 18/03/2023 07:57

Agree OP! So disappointed given their massive profits. I took DD to London in December and almost everything we did/visited that wasn't free was funded by club card points (e.g. London Eye, pizza express, hotel). We would not have been able to do the trip without them. I use the tesco credit card for all my day to day spending to maximise the opportunity to accumulate points. Gutted :(

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm one of the families who can only do certain things due to Clubcard points, sometimes struggle to afford groceries and will have to miss out on those bonuses, just like you. My reaction was to your hyperbole. Unless I've misunderstood and Mr Tesco Head Honcho is currently setting fire to Legoland, using your ornaments as kindling.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 18/03/2023 09:49

I get it’s disappointing but it’s a bonus not a right and they can chose to give points as they see fit. You can choose not to shop with them anymore I wouldn’t blame you but they’re not “robbing” from children!

ImAvingOops · 18/03/2023 10:05

Tesco is seriously overpriced - on another thread someone was saying they are charging £4.50 for mango chutney! So you are paying for those vouchers by shopping there.
Go to Aldi or Lidl instead - it's only by losing customers will Tesco reinstate perks.
Waitrose emails money off coupons too and they've massively reduced in value too. So now I only go there for cat food and stuff I really can't get elsewhere. The bulk of my money is going up aldi. It's the only way businesses learn to respect their customers

Aren't Tesco making record profits at the moment though?

This.

If you shop in Aldi you'll probably save more than the club card points are worth even at 2, 3 or 4x value, so you can use the money saved for days out instead.
