Just received an email from Tesco telling me their exciting Reward Voucher changes 😡

If we’re all sitting comfortably the exciting news is from the 14th June they are changing the vouchers so that when we exchange club card vouchers for fun days out they will now only be worth 2x the value instead of 3x.

Well thank you very much Tesco. In a cost of living crisis when the supermarkets are earning a fortune we really appreciate you robbing our children of fun family days out. Absolutely brilliant. Slow hand clap for you and your shareholders.

Sending out bad news on a Friday, assuming they did. So leaving the staff in their stores to hear unpleasant comments (hopefully nothing worse) and business journalists having all gone home or down the pub so there is minimal coverage.

Not 'every little helps'.

It's still better than nothing - honestly their clubcard prices are well worth it and I don't see the massive issue. Yes I love the points and have used them for extra things I often can't afford (days out etc..) but with business everyone is suffering - big names like Tesco are not untouchable when it comes to everything that's happening.

To be utterly furious I just find OTT x

I agree.

the points are good but not worth getting upset about

bigbluebus · 18/03/2023 12:31

I don't shop in Tesco much now but usually manage to get enough vouchers each year to pay for our Two Together railcard and DSs Young Person's railcard. Guess we will only be able to buy one now.

I was gutted when they stopped doing their double up of club card vouchers at Christmas time a few years ago. It was a brilliant incentive to shop there and use the vouchers to buy Christmas presents.

pompomdaisy · 18/03/2023 12:49

Yep Lidl get our vote at the moment. Went to Tesco last week and literally no stock. Then get that crappy email.

smellyflowers · 18/03/2023 12:57

If it means they can make the club card prices lower I'd much rather that tbh. I can't afford a day out and would much rather get cheaper cheese instead

Yes I agree. It was only ever an incentive scheme. Up to them how they wish to use it. You can always stop using the club card

Hintofreality · 18/03/2023 13:01

Er, they were giving you something for free and now they are still giving you something for free, just a bit less of it.
No t quite “robbing our kids” is it.

Mitchumforthewin · 18/03/2023 13:04

Agree it’s a shame (we have done some really good hotel breaks with ours) but yeah, it’s still a nice perk, just less of one now.

Figgygal · 18/03/2023 13:16

They're still the most generous supermarket loyalty scheme out there with club card prices
I'm amazed they still do the partner thing at all I don't see whats in it for them

PinotPony · 18/03/2023 13:22

Existing rewards are valid for 12 months ... so I'm planning to change mine up for x 3 now (we tend to use for same restaurants) and hold onto them.

Exactly!

Some of the reactions are a bit bonkers, IMO.

IDK why everyone keeps going on about how "generous" those clubcard prices are. Other shops have much better reductions available to ALL shoppers and those other shops don't artificially inflate their regular prices to make their "clubcard prices" look like a deal when it's really the price everywhere else sells things anyway. Can't believe how many people are falling for that.

For the things I buy very often the club card price is lower than anywhere else at the time.

Exactly. People seem to believe everything they are told no matter the source.

AnotherDayOlder · 18/03/2023 14:00

It is a shame but the offers were never actually 3x as it meant you couldn’t use other discounts that are often available at the restaurants or early booking deal at attractions.
Switch to chase current account for 1% cash back on all your shopping and pay for the days out that way instead?

AnotherDayOlder · 18/03/2023 14:05

Also, most of us probably are Tesco shareholders, albeit in a very small way through our pensions.

SwimmingAgainstTheTides · 18/03/2023 14:11

Why are people so stupid that they don't ever expect companies to change their reward systems?
Tesco is a cut throat business, not a charity.

SweetSakura · 18/03/2023 14:15

Meh. It's just a business. We enjoyed using them, but Tesco don't owe me anything. And I don't have to shop there. And they have given advance notice I think so there is time to cash in the vouchers you have

User6495321 · 18/03/2023 14:20

I use mine for Disney+, which I will buy some in advance as the expiry is quite long, I also use them for delivery which had already changed to 1x vouchers.

I noticed that Boots had also lessened their voucher value a bit

backinthebox · 18/03/2023 14:21

I have a Tesco credit card just for the points - it’s the most cost effective way to get Eurotunnel vouchers. However at 2x value there are better credit cards for other discounts or cashback I could use. I’ll be looking to change credit cards as a direct result of this.

ilovebagpuss · 18/03/2023 14:35

Same with the Boots points they are downgrading the points on each pound spent. Considering the app hardly ever works to deliver points anyway I won't be bothering anymore.

RudsyFarmer · 18/03/2023 14:48

I’d be interested to know what other cards people use for cashback/rewards. We have Amex for cashback and did have Tesco credit card for reward vouchers. Obviously that’s worth a lot less now so it’s time to rethink.

Ime, I've tarted around various supermarkets ove the years. Tesco has come out the dearest of the usual big four. the club card prices just seem to bring the prices down to what other supermarkets sell at.
I'm a Lidl fan everytime with a monthly Asda shop. Works for dh and me.

mushroom3 · 18/03/2023 14:58

@bigbluebus I didn't know you could use them for 2together cards. I have been using them for young person railcards and friends and family ones. Do you select one of the other railcards and then use the code for 2 together?
