How long was your engagement?

Trying to work out whats normal as we plan.
We don’t want a traditional wedding or to book a venue and invite hundreds of people.
Likely just to elope and spend our money on a fantastic honeymoon.
Do you think a 6-9 month engagement is too short? We are young and the last thing I’d wanna do is rush things and regret not enjoying the fiancé status for longer, even if it is just a stepping stone. How long was your engagement? Thankyou :)

Enjoying the fiancé status? Er sorry what’s the status. You agree to get married, hou plan it and do it.

6 weeks for us

This.

There is no "status" - no one else really cares.

We got married 5 months after we got engaged. We thought, why wait!

The same. Big wedding too, over 100 guests. It was doable because in an ugly Catholic Church so we could pick out date and we were flexible about venue and catering. I’d seen a few couples completely consumed with wedding planning and didn’t fancy spending the next two years of weekends shopping.

We never did ‘get engaged’ - dh thought it desperately uncool. We just decided to get married 6 months later.
We’ve been married for a very very long time!

It is. He was clearly a keeper from the outset. See, there are always signs.

5 months, big wedding.

Well over 2 years, but only because my sister got engaged before me and then didn't set a date.
In the end our wedding was all organised within a month as my mother had a diagnosis of terminal cancer and we wanted to get married while she was still alive. It was a tiny Registry office wedding - we had a family party with a humanist celebration the year after.
