Has anyone actually received compensation from an airline for a delay?

Has anyone actually received compensation from an airline for a delay?

I claimed directly with the airline under EU Passenger Rights regulations for a three-hour-plus delay. The complaint was acknowledged and compensation was promised in ten to twelve weeks. Except it's been another couple of months since the 10-12 weeks was up.

The only way to contact the airline about this is via an online portal, and I can see that someone is reading my messages. But the case is marked as closed and no-one replies. Calling the general helpline ends up with no-one that can help and I get referred back to the portal.

The airline in question is Corendon (from flights to Turkey).

I suspect this compensation isn't ever going to come through, right?

I've said I'll get in touch with the Civil Aviation Authority but I'm not clear whether they have any 'teeth' at all.

Got the money within a month from Tui last May. No compensation for the ‘free child places’ though

Are you me? Also had compensation agreed by corendon for flights last august to Greece.

They agreed on 1st nov, said 10-12 weeks. Messages on their portal are ignored. I called up yesterday but was fobbed off (he will pass to relevant dept and ask them to pay.

I won't give up either

They are absolute liars. Solidarity!

I just got email from BA refusing the standard €600 compensation for a 24 hour delay on a long haul flight. (they are paying claimed expenses)
Reason being technical reason was bird strike damage.
People have successfully claimed for bird strikes in the past but a test case gave judgement on 14th March that bird strike is an "extraordinary circumstance" thus exempt from compensation.
Is is worth challenging this, as delay and claim was made before this judgement?

No.

Ryanair, 7 hour delay last July. No reply from Ryanair. Went through Resolver, no response. Escalated to CAA, not a dicky bird.

Never flying Ryanair again. As a friend of mine said today "Not if they were the only carrier left on Earth - I'd rather walk".

Jewelanemone · 23/03/2023 17:13

Yes, 400 Euros from BA for a three hour delay.

PickledWolf · 23/03/2023 17:58

Yes, from monarch - remember those? I actually feel like I may have contributed to their collapse as they went under shortly after. Putting up over a 100 passengers in a 5 star hotel in a capital city with a 3 course meal and breakfast buffet alongside as much free wine as you could drink PLUS I think 500 pounds compensation on return, can't have helped things...

Yes TUI. Package hol & return flight cancelled due to tech error with plane. Had to put us up overnight which was a ball ache but ended up getting £1100 back on a package hol that cost £1600 so worth it. Used Resolver.

Why would they refund a free child place?

Torvean · 24/03/2023 07:36

Yes from Flybe. 12 hour overnight delay on a connecting internal flight.

Why would they refund a free child place?

They didn’t, just pointing that out. It’s compensation not a refund, but although the children were inconvenienced because they had free child places on the holiday, they don’t receive compensation.

KarenMW1969 · 28/09/2023 16:12

I have an ongoing claim. Corendon from June 2023. They have taken bank details but have not said how much I will receive and now it says case closed????? I obviously have not received any money

Compensation for flight delays and cancellations - https://compensair.tp.st/xnJWfa2Y Our flight was delayed overnight and the employees were saying they couldn't refund us so we went with Compensair and got a massive refund, more than we were expecting.
