Has anyone actually received compensation from an airline for a delay?

Has anyone actually received compensation from an airline for a delay?

I claimed directly with the airline under EU Passenger Rights regulations for a three-hour-plus delay. The complaint was acknowledged and compensation was promised in ten to twelve weeks. Except it's been another couple of months since the 10-12 weeks was up.

The only way to contact the airline about this is via an online portal, and I can see that someone is reading my messages. But the case is marked as closed and no-one replies. Calling the general helpline ends up with no-one that can help and I get referred back to the portal.

The airline in question is Corendon (from flights to Turkey).

I suspect this compensation isn't ever going to come through, right?

I've said I'll get in touch with the Civil Aviation Authority but I'm not clear whether they have any 'teeth' at all.

Yep, delayed 6 hours with Tui. The plane needed a new tyre. Got our compensation a couple of days later.

A couple of days? No way a claim can take 2 days. They're normally 10-12 weeks from experience.

NoInvitesEver · 17/03/2023 20:18

Thomson stonewalled my claim so I issued a small claim. They immediately paid up including court fee before the hearing.

Radiohorror · 17/03/2023 20:19

Wizzair took 7 months. Finally sent us the money when we threatened legal proceeding. They kept saying they had processed the payment but it didn't turn up.

Yes, several times. Filled in the online claim form, money paid up within the prescribed time. EasyJet and WizzAir (if memory serves correctly)

xXc · 17/03/2023 20:24

Yes delayed 9 hours with jet2 last June and received it November

AngelsWithSilverWings · 17/03/2023 20:24

We took Wizzair to the small claims
Court to get ours after waiting for them to pay within their own timescale target. We sent them a warning giving them14 days to pay and then filed a small claims court application when they didn't reply. They paid us three days before the small claims judgement was due. It cost us £80 to get our €1600 compensation.

I used Resolver, really easy templates, we were delayed 4 hours on a Jet2 flight and got £350 each, took just over 4 months.

Tui, I had a 7:15 flight to Rhodes that was arranged to fit around the ferry to a nearby island. They offered me a flight at 3'30, which meant I'd miss the ferry.

On my own, no help from TUI, I arranged a 7:00 flight by Monarch (a week before they went bust). The monarch staff were great, got me through security and passport control quickly, and I got the flight.

While I was away (a four week holiday), I received an email from tui saying I was entitled to a repayment (about £20 more than I'd pad for the Monarch flight), and a cheque was in my post when I got back.

Yes with virgin Atlantic. Took about 2 weeks.

MrsOnions0 · 17/03/2023 20:36

Yes BA this Sept. Paid around 6 weeks later. No issue at all. Easy to claim and resolve

lurchermummy · 17/03/2023 20:43

Yes from RyanIr there was a big delay and they handed out forms for us all to fill in, got &1600

Bluelightbaby · 17/03/2023 20:46

Yes with easy jet and Flybe

incognitodorrito · 17/03/2023 20:48

Used the Resolver tool & got nearly £900 back (flight cancelled and had to get put up in alternative accommodation for the night).

bubbles2023 · 17/03/2023 20:49

I applied with Tui last summer due to 4 hour delay and got like £990 back between 3 of us. It was in my account after a week.

CanIAskAnotherStupidQuestion · 17/03/2023 20:53

BA never any problems - you claim, they pay.

RyanAir I always get this:

Following a review of your claim, we regret to advise that no liablity to compensation arises under the EU261 regulation as your flight was disrupted due to handling delays/shortage of airport related personnel, outside Ryanair’s control..

HidingFromDD · 17/03/2023 20:54

Yes. TUI last year. Got back slightly more than the flight cost in about 2 weeks from claiming iirc

GrazingSheep · 17/03/2023 20:56

Yes.
Aer Lingus last summer.
Compensation in our bank account within 2 weeks.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/03/2023 21:02

How do you find out what the actual reason for the delay or cancellation was?

writingsonthewall · 17/03/2023 21:06

Are you me? Also had compensation agreed by corendon for flights last august to Greece.

They agreed on 1st nov, said 10-12 weeks. Messages on their portal are ignored. I called up yesterday but was fobbed off (he will pass to relevant dept and ask them to pay.

I won't give up either

AviMav · 17/03/2023 21:06

Yes FlyBe in 2019. They were excellent even DC got compo too. Buzzing because the flights themselves were £70... it was worth the delay 😆

buckingmad · 17/03/2023 21:09

Yes with wizz air. Took about 3 months to get it and I had to chase via Instagram.

SnaccidentsHappen · 17/03/2023 21:09

Yes with United airlines, however we went through resolver

milkysmum · 17/03/2023 21:16

Yes a couple of years back. We were delayed 12 hours coming back from Morocco. Claimed direct on the Tui website and the money was in the bank in a couple of weeks. Very straight forward to do.

GummyBearMummyBear · 17/03/2023 21:20

TUI last summer. We were delayed over 24 hours, filled in claim form when we arrived, received £1400 in my bank account 2 days later.

feelingthankful · 17/03/2023 22:04

I've done it twice - once with Alitalia, I think I emailed customer service and a lovely lady phoned me the next day to say she would arrange for 2000 euro to be transferred into my account, I had the money by the end of the week.

I also once made a claim against Qatar. They pushed back a little by saying it wasn't their fault the crew had been delayed in traffic getting to airport. I politely told them I thought a court might disagree with them, and they promptly paid me 600 euro for each person in my family.

After that I was always slightly disappointed if flights weren't delayed.
