I just heard a Funky Pigeon advert and they pronounced it bo-quet ( to rhyme with so) but I would pronounce it boo-quet. I am Scottish so am willing to accept I pronounce it oddly!

And what's all this about boo-fey. Now you are having me on. It's definitely Buffay. Boo-fey sounds like you are trying to be be posh but failing.

In NI it's generally pronounced boofey. Not too many here trying to be posh last time I looked. This thread has been all about regional variations. Maybe you haven't stepped outside your own county or watched any TV. Silly, ignorant comment.

French person here and the pronunciation boo kay is correct. Bowe kay. Is wrong.

I mean the French can pronounce it however they want, it has no bearing whatsoever on the English pronunciation!

I'm so pleased to stumble across this thread. I used to pronounce it one way, and my husband pronounces it the other way. I now can't remember which way I pronounce it, so my mind melts any time I have to say it. I now say bow-kay-boo-kay-boo-kay-bow-kay, which kind of brings any conversation to a standstill.

I don’t know where, but I remember years ago reading that it was bowkay for flowers but bookay for the smell of wine etc. It must have stuck because to this day I differentiate between them.

Absolute winner. This is it. Thank you!!
