I just heard a Funky Pigeon advert and they pronounced it bo-quet ( to rhyme with so) but I would pronounce it boo-quet. I am Scottish so am willing to accept I pronounce it oddly!

I've never heard anyone pronounce it boo-kay

Until this thread I'd never heard anyone pronounce it as bo kay.

MerryMarigold · 16/03/2023 21:00

Those saying 'boo'. Is that too rhyme with 'too'? Boo-kay. That's as bad as bow-kay. I say 'book' (a short oo) and then 'ay'.

Neverknowinglysensible · 16/03/2023 21:02

Depends on who I’m speaking to. If they say bow-kay, I’ll use the same back. Naturally, I’d probably say boo-kay. In my birthfamilyspeak, where we have basically made up our own dialect (DH thinks we’re all mad) it’s a boo-quette.

WWGDD · 16/03/2023 21:06

Bo-Kay to rhyme with okay like a previous poster. Currently looking into them for a wedding next year so saying/heard it a lot recently and don’t really remember any other pronounciation nearby!

MrsRickAstley · 16/03/2023 21:12

olympicsrock · 16/03/2023 21:12

It’s a French word say boo…Kay
The oo sound is like book or put not boo ( ghost)

Baneofmyexistence · 16/03/2023 21:14

Bow-kay for me. I’m in Manchester if it’s regional!

ChocolateTea · 16/03/2023 21:14

Those saying bow kay I’m presuming are saying bow as in bow in your hair and not bow as in how to a king? I think that is what’s confused me! 😂

Meredusoleil · 16/03/2023 21:14

Not to derail the thread, but how about another word of French origin: buffet?

I say boo-fay like the French way. I have heard it said buff-ay the English way though!

Zola1 · 16/03/2023 21:14

Bowkay

Baneofmyexistence · 16/03/2023 21:15

Yes, bow as in hair bow for me!

Quveas · 16/03/2023 21:15

BurbageBrook · 16/03/2023 21:17

Boo, because that's the correct French pronunciation.
