Has anyone got any podcast recommendations on fascinating subjects?

Inspired by the truly wonderfully “things that are utterly fascinating” thread also in chat, I was wondering if people had any good recs for podcasts around fascinating subjects?

I’ve recently discovered “the rest is history” which is about different historical figures and events and is absolutely brilliant.

I love anything to do with history, social history, things like hidden London. Recently listened to a podcast about Grey Gardens which was also really fascinating.

any and all suggestions welcome, across any subjects!

I get annoyed with podcasts which have presenters who giggle and make lame jokes. That's probably why I don't get on with British Scandal. Alice Levine does my head in. I would recommend:

Stuff You Should Know - this has been going on for something like 2000 episodes and although the banter between the two hosts can irritate sometimes, their style is warm and friendly and you do really learn a lot of stuff.

Cheat - is it ever OK to break the rules? Each episode is a standalone story, quite short and listenable.

The Evaporated - gone with the Gods. About the whole industry helping people going missing in Japan. Very interesting indeed.

The Missing Cryptoqueen

Comfort Blanket where the guy discusses with someone the book/film/TV show they return to repeatedly.

Selected Shorts is a bit different- actors read short stories for a live audience.

Love those, and Articles of Interest, 99% Invisible, Fortunately, already mentioned, which I got from a previous thread like this - thanks Mumsnetters Smile

I think i must be the only person in the world to hate this. Everyone raves about it, I think it’s dreadful and can’t stand his voice.

You aren’t the only one, I can’t listen. I find Melvyn Bragg smug and like he feels he knows better than the experts on the panel. A shame because some of the topics are really interesting.

Great thread! I have started listening to BBC Sounds when doing work that doesn’t require huge concentration and am loving Ladykillers with Lucy Worsley. I also really enjoyed Princess with Anita Anand.

Can I add The Rabbit Hole Detectives. Really lovely podcast with Richard Coles and Charles Spencer (Diana's brother) and fabulous lady from Norway whose name I can remember. Discursive without being irritating and very interesting.

I would recommend the R4 programme 'The Reunion' on BBC Sounds. There are some absolutely fascinating episodes, on such a wide variety of events, both UK and around the world, reuniting the people who were involved at the time.

What Bitcoin Did - Peter McCormack.
Robert Breedlove - what is money, The Michael Saylor series blew my mind. I'm a Bitcoin novice, trust me my profile would make you laugh... I'm not a crypto nerd. Although you would never ever call Bitcoin crypto.
