So, will the lovely Doris' testimony be adjourned so the committee and Doris can vote? Surely there's no good reason for them not to take 5 mins out to stand in the queue for voting.

DuncinToffee · 20/03/2023 15:00

Steven Swinford

Boris Johnson's legal opinion has now been submitted to the privileges committee as he attempts to rebut claims he misled the Commons

There's still questions over whether it will be published today - the committee needs to conduct checks before it can put it out

Oh god, 30p Lee has been given his own 1 hour slot on GBeebies. But he has been warned by Ofcom in advance of the May elections.

Ofcom confirmed no rules would be broken simply by Mr Anderson having a TV show, but that he would have to promote all sides of political arguments during the ‘regulated period’ before the poll.
They wrote: “It is an editorial matter for broadcasters how they maintain due impartiality, and there is a range of editorial techniques they may use to do this, such as the inclusion of interviewees who can offer alternative viewpoints, a presenter summarising an alternative viewpoint, and/or a presenter challenging the views of interviewees.”

Can anyone on this thread begin to imagine 30pLee promoting all sides of political argument? I certainly can't!

How many more Tories are going to have a show there? We already have JRM, Esther McVey, and over on TalkTV our friend Nads.

Is it paid for by Putin?

Notonthestairs · 20/03/2023 16:45

Anderson will love "taking on" Ofcom - its free publicity for someone desperate for attention and will distract from other issues. No doubt he'll suggest Ofcom are all lefties anyway (lefties that report to Parliament and Minister for Culture).

He can't even present his own viewpoint clearly Grin

Sounds like she is actually inviting people to risk their lives on small boats

Speaking on a two-day visit to Rwanda, the Home Secretary also accused her Labour critics of “snobbery” and said removal to Rwanda would be “a blessing” for migrants risking their lives to cross the Channel.

twitter.com/charleshymas/status/1637741689950330882?t=ysNOz0CSrdy8oWVEC2LDbg&s=19

Not sure how much of a blessing it is if you've used every penny you have to get to Britain to be reunited with your close family. The children who died when that dingy sank in the Channel were trying to get to their dad. Not sure being deported half way around the world would be seen as preferable.

itsgettingweird · 20/03/2023 18:29

They don't change the narrative do they.

Now it's "world leading Rwanda partnership"

Rosula · 20/03/2023 19:01

How can it be world-leading when others have tried this bollocks before?

It's really slightly pathetic how often they trot out "world-leading", as if they seriously think we're going to believe it and disregard the evidence all around us that it's anything but.

Somehow each time someone says world leading I hear rubbish. Can't think why.

Blossomtoes · 20/03/2023 19:11

Have they changed it? It used to be world beating.

Stanley?

No, that’s wife beating, silly.

No, that’s wife beating, silly.

You have to know what a woman is to do that of course.

Blossomtoes · 20/03/2023 19:30

Of course you do. It’s as plain as the broken nose on her face.

World leading? Time to trot out this classic again.

Precisely!

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/03/2023 10:22

I've just heard a conservative MP, George Eustice speak sensibly about GDP and childcare. Apparently he feels that measuring everything by GDP isn't the best way and that families should be given support for one parent to stay home if they want. So reintroducing choice.

He was correcting something he said previously along the lines of 1950s households. Today he sounded almost reasonable.

Had to write this here as I am shocked, I tell you, shocked. Measuring everything in terms of productivity is causing harm in my opinion and needs to be changed. A tory sounding almost reasonable on something, wtaf.

mibbelucieachwell · 21/03/2023 12:22

Poor old Doris is being picked on.
Rishi was there too.

Roussette · 21/03/2023 12:25

From Pippa Crerar

BREAKING: Boris Johnson written evidence published
"I accept HoC was misled by my statements that rules & guidance had been followed completely at No 10. But when the statements were made, they were made in good faith and on the basis of what I honestly knew & believed at time."

Is he just admitting he is thick and/or stupid? I think he is.

How come the great british public needed to know and abide by what the restrictions were, and yet he wasn't??

OP posts:
Roussette · 21/03/2023 12:33

So... I think he is saying... he needed a written statement from his advisers every time he walked in a room stating whether it was breaking lockdown rules. Or not. And as he didn't receive these, he is blameless

Oh do fuck off Johnson you liar.

"I wasn't there when I didn't do it". Billy Bunter, don't know author's name.

Fladdermus · 21/03/2023 12:46

I knew the rules and I don't even live in the UK. There's no excuse beyond 'the rules don't apply to me'.

Roussette · 21/03/2023 12:55

This is a Telegraph article, I archived it as it's behind a pay wall.

They absolutely wipe the floor with him 😲

archive.ph/RO83S

Just a snippet. Worth reading the whole thing

I am sure he will put on the show of his life on Wednesday but many are exhausted by this Trumpian post-truth blur of deceit. He may take us for fools but we are not one of his cast-off mistresses. The utter self-belief that propelled him to power is now revealed as monstrous arrogance. His clowning looks cheap and disrespectful. One sees the occasional glimpse of the politician he could have been when he talks about Ukraine but he will be remembered more for ridiculous wallpaper than any great geo-political stance.

OP posts:
Roussette · 21/03/2023 12:58

And... (sorry, can't resist)

^To see him kicking and screaming about being made accountable is a revolting spectacle. It serves to remind us of why he should never have been in power, not why he should be again.
The kindest thing to say is that he believes his own lies.
Thank god, the rest of us no longer have to.^
