Anybody giving anything up? I am contemplating sugar. I have a sugar in my tea, and some days that's 4 or 5 cups...

I think sugar in my tea too 😬

FavouriteSlippers · 21/02/2023 20:21

I'd love to say chocolate! BUT i have zero will power. Zilch.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 21/02/2023 20:24

I'd like to say alcohol but it's not realistic. I might give up bread . I eat a LOT of bread I eat about 6 slices a day. Sandwiches, toast , bread and butter , bread in cup of soup 3 times a week.
I have 2 Sandwiches in my lunch tomorrow.. so will have to rethink that lunch tomorrow.

Or tea ! I drink about 5-6 mugs a day . Every day

That might be difficult. But I'm sure that the point

I'm with @FavouriteSlippers

WeFollowRivers · 21/02/2023 20:28

@HaveANiceFuckingDay @FavouriteSlippers yes to both of those also. I'm a sucker for bread & galaxy chocolate. Particularly fresh bread with butter. In an ideal world they'd be on the list too but it's a step to far at the moment. I get through around 1kg of sugar a month, so ditching that has to be a positive - 12kg of sugar a year!!

I'm giving up alcohol. I didn't do dry January as I had various events on so this is my penance

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 21/02/2023 20:30

I'm taking up intermittent fasting, so giving up eating outside of my set window of time.

AdventuresAwait · 21/02/2023 20:30

Think I'm going to give up chocolate!

Ifailed · 21/02/2023 20:32

I'm going to continue to ignore religion.

I'm going to continue to ignore religion.

FAIL

TerrifiedandWorried · 21/02/2023 20:34

I am.gping to continue to ignore religion while simultaneously finding it quite a good way to prompt me to give up a bad habit. So I will be giving up sugar and idle phone use.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 21/02/2023 20:35

Alcohol. I can only give it up for Lent because it’s giving up something that’s supposed to be uncomfortable.

Its bloody long though. 40 days doesn’t include Sundays. So it goes on weeks and weeks and weeks. 🙁

WiltingLobelia · 21/02/2023 20:36

I had super successful Lent years back where I gave up running and never went back to it. [pats self on back]/

This year I might have to give up alcohol- I just did a back of the envelope count of how much I spend on it and drinks at the pub weekly and could seriously do something better with the money.

Ihatepcos · 21/02/2023 20:39

I want to give up sugar but I'm going on holiday for a week tomorrow and that will be miserable so having to rethink

SquirrelFan · 21/02/2023 20:42

Mumsnet!

newmum0604 · 21/02/2023 20:43

Oooh. Maybe weighing myself.

SNWannabe · 21/02/2023 20:44

Chocolate! And crisps.

ZenNudist · 21/02/2023 20:45

I'm giving up treats and mumsnet!

Danikm151 · 21/02/2023 20:45

I’m gonna try and give up white bread and store brought sandwiches. Batch cooking so I have lunches to take to work and can’t fake an excuse for going the shop

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 21/02/2023 20:46

Crisps, but what the flip to replace them with...

DuckonaBike · 21/02/2023 20:47

I’m giving up cake and biscuits! I’ve just made a cake and eaten a large slice as a last fling. The rest of the family will have to finish it. My motivation for this is that my trousers all seem to have got smaller recently.

You know you can indulge in the thing you have given up on Refreshment Sunday (same day as Mothers Day)? I might make another cake…

Parisj · 21/02/2023 20:49

Mumsnet and Twitter. I am having palpitations

MadMadMadamMim · 21/02/2023 20:52

I'm a teacher (of teens) and announced today that I was giving up chocolate for Lent. One of my lovely students eyed me up and said bluntly, "You'll not manage it", which made me laugh and say "Thanks. We both know that - but you could at least have pretended I might. Maybe said something like "ooh, good luck, Miss".

Gotta love their honesty.

flutterbyebaby · 21/02/2023 20:55

Out of all the vices I've only got caffeine to give up and even my doctor laughed when I mentioned it to her, saying she could never and it would be a brave move for me.

Spirini · 21/02/2023 20:57

I gave up sugar in my tea years ago and never went back to it. It tasted disgusting to me after 40 days without, do it!
