Anybody giving anything up? I am contemplating sugar. I have a sugar in my tea, and some days that's 4 or 5 cups...

@flutterbyebaby caffeine is good for you though. Helps detox your liver and calorie burning before exercise. Don’t want to give that up.

Sexypyjamas · 21/02/2023 21:08

DH asked what we were giving up. We said sweet treats and the kids started crying, so maybe a rethink. I reckon coffee is too difficult and I don't eat chocolate anyway. Possibly crisps would be doable. I know the whole idea is for it to be uncomfortable but I'm already sitting in a cold house with my outdoor coat on being, well, uncomfortable. Good luck to everyone.

Stopthatnoisemummy · 21/02/2023 21:09

Chocolate and coke zero for me. Got into far too bad a habit of visiting the vending machine at work when I'm bored or need a screen break.

Notsoyummymummy2 · 21/02/2023 21:09

Crisps! Writing it down here to be accountable! Please ask us in 40 days if we’ve stuck to it OP! Good luck all!

cravingtoblerone · 21/02/2023 21:11

Chocolate, ice cream and cake

eatdrinkandbemerry · 21/02/2023 21:17

Bread and biscuits

Waitymatey · 21/02/2023 21:20

I gave up sugar a few years ago, that was a looooong Lent!
This year, I plan to give up social media. Bye bye Mumsnet

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/02/2023 21:21

I've started slimming world and except for this week because I had a stinking cold have given up most things I enjoy lol. I also gave up alcohol mid dec so I'm not giving up anything.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/02/2023 21:22

Actually maybe I'll try to give up my useless phone use

I'd like to say alcohol but it's not realistic. I might give up bread . I eat a LOT of bread I eat about 6 slices a day. Sandwiches, toast , bread and butter , bread in cup of soup 3 times a week.
I have 2 Sandwiches in my lunch tomorrow.. so will have to rethink that lunch tomorrow.

Or tea ! I drink about 5-6 mugs a day . Every day

That might be difficult. But I'm sure that the point

Is 6 slices of bread a lot? That's normal for me, frequently 8.

What's normal? I'm worried now!!

WeAreBorg · 21/02/2023 21:23

I’m going to try going low sugar for lent. I did it for a January once and felt amazing but then relapsed

Farewell all the MN giver uppers - see you in 40 days!

elp30 · 21/02/2023 21:25

I emptied my purse and found eight receipts.
Every single one of them had candy (sweets), chips (crisps), and cookies (biscuits).
I've spent the past few weeks wondering why I can't lose weight. I've just found my answer.
I am giving those three up.

Just the thought of it is making me sweat.

I'm definitely not, I'd be a nightmare 😁😁😁

Bobbybobbins · 21/02/2023 21:30

Crisps!

PatientlyWaiting21 · 21/02/2023 22:02

Nope, but I will use it to set my daily habit of stretches

AdoraBell · 21/02/2023 22:10

Crisps

Seriously need to lose about a stone before summer, and keep it off.

I’m giving up cake and biscuits! I’ve just made a cake and eaten a large slice as a last fling. The rest of the family will have to finish it. My motivation for this is that my trousers all seem to have got smaller recently.

You know you can indulge in the thing you have given up on Refreshment Sunday (same day as Mothers Day)? I might make another cake…

It's actually every Sunday that you can have whatever you've given up - Sundays are feast days so no fasting - if you count the days there are actually 47 between Shrove Tuesday and Easter Sunday, take out the Sundays and you get the 40 days of Lent.

DogandMog · 21/02/2023 22:29

I’m an orthodox catchumen, so it’ll be my first Lent fasting the old school way… basically vegan, plus no alcohol or olive oil. We actually start on monday, so this week I am enjoying all the cheeses as it’s Cheesefare week (vegetarian before going in full vegan). Also giving up my usual sins of too much browsing MN/Twitter, and catching up with my reading list instead.

TokyoSushi · 21/02/2023 22:31

Chocolate, cakes and all things of that genre. It's going to be a long 40 days!

mondaytosunday · 21/02/2023 22:33

I give up alcohol every year. I started after my mother passed away some years ago as she always did it. I miss it the first week but then I don't think about it.
This year I'm also planning on walking 10k steps every day! That will be harder for me.

londonloves · 21/02/2023 23:04

Definitely giving up buying books. Do it to cheer myself up then feel stressed I have so many unread.
Limiting alcohol to 2 days per week with a unit limit per week in place also.
Considering upping my steps to 15k and giving up chocolate but maybe that's a step too far 😬

Copperoliverbear · 21/02/2023 23:06

Going to try to eat better x

Ohifyouinsist · 21/02/2023 23:07

Sex and lettuce Wink

StJulian2023 · 21/02/2023 23:07

Feelings. I’m going to try to give up feelings.

AlwaysLatte · 21/02/2023 23:12

I'm Atheist so no giving up anything here, although we are trying to be generally mindful of any excesses (I probably shouldn't have posted that comment on the day we ate silly lots of pancakes!
