Do you like your breadbin and can you recommend one for family of 4 (we have loaf, bagels and crumpets on the go)

I’ll follow this with interest as I’m looking for a new bread bin at the moment and cannot find exactly what I want - being very fussy!

BestIsWest · 21/02/2023 13:13

Joseph and Joseph from TKMaxx. It has a loaf and hot cross buns in at the moment.

We have a double decker bamboo one with clear windows in the doors so you can see the contents, it was from Amazon. (I bought it last time there was a breadbin thread!)

I like it as I don't like forgetting there are crumpets needing eating up in the breadbin, and the two levels mean squashing is at a minimum.

It's probably not as stylish as some others are, but it suits us. Our kitchen is not about style over functionality...

kittenkipping · 21/02/2023 14:00

I have this one. It's pretty but entirely too small. Which means 90% if the time either the bagels or the bread are perched on top instead of inside because it can only really hold a loaf and crumpets (at a push) and so it looks messy regardless of sleek design.

When I win the lottery and can justify £70(!) on a bread bin I will buy this one

We have a Brabantia fall forward one - it's not the biggest ever but the best part is other stuff can live on top of it so it feels like less wasted space

WhoHidTheCoffee · 21/02/2023 14:14

We have this Sophie Allport one: www.sophieallport.com/products/chicken-bread-bin

Currently out of stock but I’d definitely look to see if it comes back in. It’s great - takes a full load plus crumpets, bagels, etc, without any squashing.

BabsDylan · 21/02/2023 14:19

Ooh that’s nice @BestIsWest looks a decent size too?

I keep mine in the microwave so the cat can’t get it Grin he has a habit of taking a bite out of every slice if he gets hold of it Envy

I should have done a search before adding my own thread. Double decker sounds great,is it as big as the one posted??

We use the microwave as well - we started doing it when we had mice and it actually works well space wise.

mycatsanutter · 21/02/2023 14:27

@WetBandits I chuck mine in the cupboard with the plates away from the cat and dog neither can be trusted , microwave is probably better thou thanks for that tip 😀

CeriB82 · 21/02/2023 14:29

I have this one. Big enough for a loaf or 2 and crumpets etc

We've got the Brabantia front opening one too and I love it. It's sensibly designs so I can keep it on a shelf instead of worktop, doesn't get grubby handprints on it and fits two loaves comfortably with room for crackers!

cocksstrideintheevening · 21/02/2023 14:31

We've got the Brabantia one too and it's too small. During the week for packed lunches we have a loaf of bread, rolls, bagels and thins, I'm always finding something festering at the back.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 21/02/2023 14:33

I don't have a bread bin and before this thread I didn't want a bread bin but I'm now definitely going to buy a bread bin.

golddustwomen · 21/02/2023 14:36

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee snap Grin

redspottedmug · 21/02/2023 14:37

I have a round enamel one. But I keep spuds and onions in it, and the bread/baked goods are kept in a cupboard. Because the round shape only works for round loaves Smile

TheNoodlesIncident · 21/02/2023 14:48

It's this one @BabsDylan. Now out of stock but there are other similar ones like @kittenkipping version.

We have items like vitamin tubs popped on the top as well, I'll never be tidy. But at least they don't get forgotten about!

BabsDylan · 21/02/2023 15:10

Love that @TheNoodlesIncident

We used to have a (too small) bread bin.
now we keep it in a lower cupboard which is awkward and I don’t like it!

I don’t have a bread bin, I keep it in a plastic basket type container, which goes in the cupboard next to the toaster 😆

IreneJones · 21/02/2023 15:34

We have this one. Have had for years. It easily fits in a loaf plus bagels/hot cross buns etc
