Hot mini sugar cinnamon doughnuts?

Tropicaliyes · 20/02/2023 02:54

Does anyone remember those bags of hot freshly made mini doughnuts coated in sugar and cinnamon?

you would find them made in vans at sometime carnivals, funfairs or the beach and if your lucky you would just stumble upon one at a big food mall.

anyone know what im talking about and if you can still get them.. where?

im in London and the last time i saw one was as a kid but i have really been craving them for a while and now im pregnant it is so much worse! Even greggs used to do mini doughnuts that stopped years ago and i now cannot find anything similar!

im tempted to go to Westfields to get one of those sugar cinnamon pretzels 🥨 that come hot! Its the closest thing i can think of but dont think it will quite be what im looking for!

If i even knew what they were called that would be a start but if anyone knows of where sells them then thats even better!

Clacton - Just outside the pier
Not cinnamon tho!

HateEatingInTheDark · 20/02/2023 03:14

Brighton Pier too actually

ShippingNews · 20/02/2023 03:18

I remember them - I lived near a pier as a kid . Yum ! I think that to get the taste, buy a container of cinnamon sugar, in the baking section of the supermarket. Make Hot buttered toast and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on it. Delicious!

Every side resort in the UK will sell them or a fun fair will have them

loopyloutoo · 20/02/2023 04:24

I was gonna suggest Westfields - they are definitely closest to the flavour! Now I want one too and I've moved country 😅

HappyAsASandboy · 20/02/2023 04:29

Not much use to you in London, but there's a van at the fair in Hunstanton, another at the Serpentjne Green shopping centre in Peterborough, and one in Bedford town centre (that's been run by same ancient Italian lady for the last 30 years. She was about 150 back then, and still looks the same now! She is absolutely lovely!)

Curriedpeanuts · 20/02/2023 04:31

I got some at a winter market in Trafalgar Square in November and saw some at a market in a town just outside London yesterday. Look for street markets and follow your nose..

catinboots123 · 20/02/2023 05:04

There's always a donut van at boot fairs

Tropicaliyes · 20/02/2023 16:20

Awesome thank you guys! So any pier (we wanted to visit Brighton so what a great time). Peterborough I have never been to but if i do, i for sure will search out this little italian old woman 🤣.

The buttered toast with cinnamon sugar on it isnt for me i dont think! I have been off toast for a while and now thinking of the combination of the butter and sugar seems a lot!😮‍💨.

I might just end up going to Westfields on Wednesday as i have to go to my last baby scan then anyway so can pass through on my way home, saw they also do little bites too which might be similar to the little doughnuts (but i doubt it haha).

Hmm street markets! Im going to have to do a search to see if any are going on down here.. they use to do a lot in Stratford but i dont know the last time i saw one of those either 🤔 but for sure worth the look,

thank you all for the suggestions, it has really fuelled my hunt now!

Southend seafront does them

Tropicaliyes · 20/02/2023 16:24

Do they? Maybe thats where i saw them last then! Southend is a lot closer and cleaner than clacton we we would always avoid them!

also what is boots fairs?

HateEatingInTheDark · 21/02/2023 02:39

Clacton is really nice now.
Much better than Southend

QueenOfWeeds · 21/02/2023 02:55

There used to be an airstream style doughnut van on the Southbank, between the National Theatre and Gabriel’s Wharf. I’m pretty sure they used to do them but I couldn’t be certain.

MrsRigmarole · 21/02/2023 03:03

Ahh I love fresh doughnuts. Apparently "doughnut" was my first word (I was born in a seaside town). If the ones at Westfield disappoint and you can't get to the seaside, you can get them in the shopping centre at Dalston Junction in northeast London. There's a little stand just outside Matalan. They were a regular treat for me when I was pregnant! The cold doughnuts you get in bakeries and supermarkets just aren't the same.

SpookyBlackCat · 21/02/2023 03:17

Im going to be that person and say that they aren’t that hard to make, especially if you make balls instead of rings. Easier than traveling to the seaside.

Glitteratitar · 21/02/2023 03:19

Crosstown do cinnamon doughnuts? Not quite the same as the ones you mean but close enough.

CheerfulYank · 21/02/2023 03:21

At the carnival here! But it is in June, and in the US, so probably not helpful.

I do want some now though!

Coffeecoffeeinmytummy · 21/02/2023 03:34

Bills restaurant used to have them on their pudding menu, not sure if they still do.

RNBrie · 21/02/2023 04:50

M&S do churros that you bake then cover in cinnamon sugar. They're good but they don't have quite the same hot sweetness you're talking about. Might help scratch the itch though.

Madamecastafiore · 21/02/2023 05:49

Had some at a festival last year, utterly grim greasy things. Those cinnamon pretzels though are a different matter altogether. Bloody lovely!

Sammysquiz · 21/02/2023 06:30

I used to live in Oxford in the 90s and there was always a hot donut stand in Bonn Square. Remember fondly walking through there everyday on my way to college and getting a bag. So delicious, especially on a cold winter’s day. Also remembering fondly the days I could regularly eat a bag of donuts and not put on any weight!

Not there any more unfortunately.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 21/02/2023 06:34

Weren't they called "Dinky Donuts" well at least where I'm from they were.

Hot mini sugar cinnamon doughnuts?
jollylemons · 21/02/2023 06:52

I used to make them down Southend seafront in the theme park there. Pretty sure they still do them.
Honestly I can't stand Southend now even tho I grew up there. But for what you want sounds like a good option to dart down grab some donuts take in some sea air and return 😂

milkysmum · 21/02/2023 07:21

We are up north ( so no use to you really sorry ), but we always get fresh hot doughnuts if we visit the seaside for the day. It's pretty much the only good thing about going to Blackpool 😂

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 21/02/2023 08:07

I used to love these too, haven't been able to find them so I go for churros now and much prefer them
