Hot mini sugar cinnamon doughnuts?

Tropicaliyes · 20/02/2023 02:54

Does anyone remember those bags of hot freshly made mini doughnuts coated in sugar and cinnamon?

you would find them made in vans at sometime carnivals, funfairs or the beach and if your lucky you would just stumble upon one at a big food mall.

anyone know what im talking about and if you can still get them.. where?

im in London and the last time i saw one was as a kid but i have really been craving them for a while and now im pregnant it is so much worse! Even greggs used to do mini doughnuts that stopped years ago and i now cannot find anything similar!

im tempted to go to Westfields to get one of those sugar cinnamon pretzels 🥨 that come hot! Its the closest thing i can think of but dont think it will quite be what im looking for!

If i even knew what they were called that would be a start but if anyone knows of where sells them then thats even better!

You mean aunti Anne’s?

www.auntieannes.co.uk/locations/

i agree, miss the fresh just deep fried donuts full of cinnamon and sugar and crunch bits. Yeh fresh churros are the next closest I suppose.

Lolly49 · 21/02/2023 08:13

There is one in Kingston Upon Thames near the Travel Lodge. An original Dinky Doughnuts if you can get there.

Tropicaliyes · 22/02/2023 23:57

I haven’t been to southend or clacton for years so maybe it was unfair to say one was better than the other based on past experiences.

I have never heard of Gabriels wharf, i went past Waterloo today too but had no idea until i came home, saw this and googled it haha!

Dalston is do-able, so maybe when im going around i will take a trip there even though i have no idea where in Dalston you mean but surely it cannot be hard to find.

Bill’s restaurant i dont know about? Or know where it is? And have also not been to Oxford yet.

I also should just make some but i know i would manage to get it wrong somehow or it just wont taste right!

i have never gone to Crosstowns but its the same as going to krispy creams, thats alright if i want just Doughnuts which i can also get anywhere else but thats not what im after.

Thats “dinky Doughnuts “ van doesn't look familiar at all but i guess it is just another person rebranding their own version of the same thing?

I bought what i believe to be similar churros to the M&S ones you mention from Ocado and absolutely hated them! The Churros you find most people do (or sell prepackaged) are nothing like real churros and are thick, eggy and not fluffy at all.. better yet the dusting just drops right off like it was never there! So disappointing and many others have been a similar type of “churro”.

Aunti anne’s looks similar to the Westfields ones which i think are called Mr. pretzel.. thing is I believe the westfields one keep it to just pretzels and doughnut bites kind of things but the one you showed have all sorts of things like sausage pretzels, pizza pretzels and all sorts i have never seen! Our are pretty plain and simple in comparison tbh.

Blackpool i need to visit and for sure will be looking up and down for some doughnuts haha!

Kingston Upon Thames is a bit further out, on the other end of the Northern line for me but for sure will be searching if i go there again!

thank you everyone for all the suggestions..

I done a search on Dinky doughnuts and found they have one in enfield somewhere although the location isnt made known but im hopeful i can likely find at least them now i have a name!

I really appreciate all the replies!

McDonalds used to do the best ones. They were superb.

Tropicaliyes · 15/03/2023 02:29

I don’t ever remember a time Mc Donalds did little cinnamon sugared doughnuts🧐

These are my absolute food weakness. I had them
last on Brighton Pier.

Ahh I love fresh doughnuts. Apparently "doughnut" was my first word (I was born in a seaside town). If the ones at Westfield disappoint and you can't get to the seaside, you can get them in the shopping centre at Dalston Junction in northeast London. There's a little stand just outside Matalan. They were a regular treat for me when I was pregnant! The cold doughnuts you get in bakeries and supermarkets just aren't the same.

Yes! I was coming on to suggest there! Oh I miss that stall since moving away!

Rebel2 · 15/03/2023 07:36

I'm in the NW and we have a coffee shop that does just coffee and those!

Butteredtoast55 · 15/03/2023 07:42

I hate to panic you but the last time my DS and I went to our local mall, the pretzel stall had gone! We wept, dear readers, we wept.

Tropicaliyes · 15/03/2023 21:31

Haha I still haven’t gone and seemed these doughnuts out yet! Got some serious PGP and whenever I go out and walk for what doesn’t even seem like 20 minutes I’m in agony! Dalston is likely the closes place I can think of out of all the options available and Living near Stratford, Westfields Mr. pretzels are the next best and we went to Westfields about a month ago and they still existed there so hopefully if I get to Stratford anytime soon I will pick some up.. Better yet would be to find that place in Dalston (which knowing me I’d get lost, not find it and be frustrated and annoyed😅).

I feel like at this rate the next time I see or taste these little doughnuts will be once the baby is born and it would be my luck to not even want them by then haha🤦🏽‍♀️

@Tropicaliyes I blame you. They only had normal size today and took 20 mins to be cool enough to eat!

Hot mini sugar cinnamon doughnuts?
Tropicaliyes · 15/03/2023 22:16

@Rebel2 🥺🥺🥺Good I’m glad they were normal size and not what you were expecting! 😞🤤🤤 I can’t believe you even got them warm and just as I want! And two! 😭😭 so unfair!

when you saw NW is that NW England or London🧐 (asking for a friend) 😂😂

OP posts:
Rebel2 · 15/03/2023 22:28

NW England sorry BlushGrin
It was £6 for 2 and a coffee which I didn't think was bad

Suzi9989 · 15/03/2023 23:01

Make your own??

foodnetwork.co.uk/recipes/cinnamon-baked-doughnuts

Tropicaliyes · 15/03/2023 23:01

😭😭I considered moving to Yorkshire which would be closer but it’s my luck the place would close down lol!

And damn £6! Prices are crazy down here! Id expect £6 (or around that) for 2 doughnuts then almost £4 for the coffee! (If you don’t want a mini cup)!

At this rate I might as well perfect home making them! I’m so jealous !

Last time I had them was from a van in Legoland Windsor 🍩

DinosApple · 15/03/2023 23:29

Had them last year at Hunstanton. But also I think there's someone at our Saturday market in the local town who has a stall.

They're so good, they remind me of my Dad taking us to airshows at North Weald. Back in the day you could get 5 for a pound.... Happy days.

msmatcha · 15/03/2023 23:41

Blackpool Pleasure Beach - had them there about a year ago.... lovely lovely.

AlmostSummer21 · 15/03/2023 23:47

🤔almost midnight, on a Wednesday, in the burbs... not A hope.

might be an Easter Day trip to the coast!!

SleepingisanArt · 16/03/2023 00:02

There is a van on Commercial Road in Central Portsmouth (the city centre is a dump) and a kiosk on the front at Southsea near South Parade Pier. We like the 2nd one better as it's great to gobble eat mini cinnamon coated doughnuts watching the sea.

QueefQueen80s · 16/03/2023 00:07

Still all over at funfairs, festivals, seaside etc.. one of my favourite treats! Totally different to doughnuts from shops. Hot, sugary, crispy outer shell 🤤

bananafishbones1 · 16/03/2023 00:10

My husband got into making these two ingredient donuts in lockdown sprinkled with cinnamon sugar - very easy

recipesbycarina.com/2-ingredient-donuts-recipe/

Down2thefloor · 16/03/2023 00:13

Sainsburys sugar ring donuts. Throw a little cinnamon on and pop them in air fryer for about 4 mins.

They taste the same!

Tropicaliyes · 16/03/2023 00:45

I feel like I haven’t had these doughnuts since I was a kid and almost seemed a thing of the past but then to hear everyone has had them so much more recently makes me wonder where the heck I have been!

If only everyone or at least everywhere that’s been mentioned wasn’t so far! Hunstanton I have never heard of 🤦🏽‍♀️.

@bananafishbones1 might have to give these a go 🤗

@Down2thefloor i dont have a air fryer so even if I got these I’d have to find another way to make them hot but still fluffy
