Any Harry Potter fans? Can you tell me your favourite scene from each book please.

Sorry, I know its a lot to ask.

I've never read or seen any of them (just never got around to it) but I'm doing some fore edge painting on the books as a gift for someone and she is a huge fan.

Can you please tell me the best/most important/ your favourite scenes from each book please? She absolutely adores Harry potter and I really want to get this right for her (and don't have time to read the books or watch the films before her birthday now).

Thank you so much 💐

If it was me:-

  1. Hogwarts in the dark, scary sky, them all in little boats sailing towards it
  1. "The chamber of secrets has been opened, enemies of the heir beware" (if you use thus please double check actual wording)

3 the Knight bus driving through London

I'll keep thinking on the rest. I preferred the books by far but it's easier to jmagine scenes from the movie.

  1. Harry and voldemort facing each other in the graveyard, wands out, priori incantatem
MamaCanYouBuyMeABanana · 17/02/2023 12:25

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz thank you so much, this is so helpful.

I've been googling scenes from the films but have no idea which are significant at all.

this. the boy who didnt die cant be killed at a whim. The wand lore, the horcrux make their presence known here. Voldemort and his followers are shocked that the most accomplished wizard (or so he thinks) is unable to kill a schoolboy.

Thank you.

These are the images I have so far, are these right?

I really must get around to reading them.

Having looked up what fore edge painting is I think the best way to do the books would be:

  1. Hogwarts - full moon behind it, maybe little boats sailing towards it if you're feeling fancy.
  2. A giant basilisk - with a little Harry holding a sword
  3. A Sirius Black Wanted poster
  4. A dragon
  5. (This is really tricky because - despite the size of the book, there's no big set piece - the fight at the end is really messy) But maybe a Dark Mark?
  6. Snape killing Dumbledore
  7. Either the seven potters all flying off in different directions or (from the film) the three of them standing on the bridge right at the end after the battle or Harry and Hermione in the churchyard on Christmas Eve looking at Lily and James' grave.

I can't even get my head around how clever you must be to be able to do this

Fink · 17/02/2023 12:51

Not the same as some pps, but my choices would be:

  1. Part of the trail leading up to finding Quirrell, ideally the chess game, maybe the Devil's Snare or Fluffy. Something with all 3 of the golden trio in it. At a push even the first meeting with Fluffy so that Neville can be included.
  2. Fawkes crying over Harry with Riddle and Ginny in the background.
  3. The face-off between Sirius, Remus, and Snape in the Haunted Shack, with the golden trio in the background.
  4. Harry with 'Moody' in his office after the maze, with Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape in the faux glass
  5. The battle in the Department of Mysteries, particular focus on the duel between Bellatrix and Sirius.
  6. This is my least favourite book, but if I had to choose then it would be Harry and Dumbledore in the cave.
  7. Harry going into the forest with the people from the Resurrection Stone.
GwenogJones · 17/02/2023 12:51

The picture you have of Harry and Voldemort is from the seventh book - the wand in the middle is the Elder Wand. If your friend likes the films as well that would be a good picture to do on Deathly Hallows but isn't right for Goblet of Fire

CatChant · 17/02/2023 13:07

Harry being sorted by the Sorting Hat in the Great Hall at Hogwarts in Philosopher’s Stone.

The Whomping Willow attacking the Weasleys’ Ford Anglia in Chamber of Secrets.

The Knightbus trundling through London in Prisoner of Azkaban.

Harry fighting a dragon in Goblet of Fire.

The battle in the Department of Mysteries when so many glass spheres containing stored prophecies get smashed in Order of the Phoenix.

Dumbledore and Harry being attacked by Inferi while searching for a Horcrux in a cave in Half Blood Prince.

The doe Patronus leading Harry through the forest to the pond where he will find the sword of Gryffindor in Deathly Hallows.

What a lovely present OP. Your friend is very lucky.

My favourite bit from the 3rd book where Harry realises it was him and not his dad he saw across the lake.

In fact, that is my favorite bit of the entire series.

Me too. It is incredibly powerful when Harry realises his own power as a young wizard.

"EXPECTO PATRONUM"

It gave me shivers when I first read PoA

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 14:21

The one with Harry and voldemort and the one wand in between is book seven. I'll find what I mean

Book 5 is dull as fuck.

I'd probably go the Black Family Tree

Oh yes!!! A dark lake, a tiny speck (harry) on the far shore, and a glowing stag racing across the lake.

Very good suggestion!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 14:25

Also, do you do this as a paid service??

Shock book six is my favourite!

Justme10 · 17/02/2023 14:26

My favourite scene from the books and movies is the chess game from philosopher's stone.

As a kid it just seemed so epic to me and that's always stayed with me.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 14:27

Book two - the Glenfinnan viaduct and the Hogwarts Express with the Anglia flying above it .

SeasonalDependency · 17/02/2023 14:29

Book one - Harry looking in the Mirror of Erised and seeing his parents on either side of him

redskydelight · 17/02/2023 14:32

Not the question you asked, but as a Harry Potter fan i.e a reader of books with no pictures, I have my own vision of what the scenes look like and I don't want them spoiled by someone else's view of what they should look like.

So perhaps you should check with your friend first?

But by this token no fan art for anything would ever exist?

crochetmonkey74 · 17/02/2023 14:36

Well no - because clearly some people do like it. I also don't like cushions, but that doesn't mean that no one should sell those either.

But OP is not creating fan art for mass sale. She's creating something as a bespoke gift for one particular friend. It would be worth her while, before she puts a huge amount of time and effort into creating something, to check whether this is something that her friend will love and cherish, or whether it's something she'll politely thank her for whilst her heart sinks.

MamaCanYouBuyMeABanana · 17/02/2023 14:47

Thank you all, this is so helpful. Thank goodness I asked or I would have put the wrong scene on the book. I'll look up some pictures in a bit of what I plan to do if someone would be so kind to check I have the right pictures for the right books 🤣

It's for my sons girlfriend, she already has the books but I just thought she would love something only she owns, she is a massive fan so I hope she does like it. They haven't been dating long but she's so lovely and good for my son so I want to get her something a bit special, but not embarrassingly expensive or anything. I thought if I did the film scenes then it would be OK, I really don't want to ruin anything fir her.

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz I don't charge for anything art related anymore, it's just a hobby now as I have some health stuff going on and am quite a bit slower than I used to be, I can post pictures when I'm done and I'm more than happy to do this for anyone just because I enjoy making art and have hundreds of pounds worth if supplies I need to justify owning.

OP posts:
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 14:57

I'm sure she will love it. It's an incredible gift!!

Happy to check your photos once you've decided, to confirm right ones for each book.

I'd suggest adding Peeves to one of them, as he was (to all the fans mass disappointment) completely written out of the films.
