Any Harry Potter fans? Can you tell me your favourite scene from each book please.

Sorry, I know its a lot to ask.

I've never read or seen any of them (just never got around to it) but I'm doing some fore edge painting on the books as a gift for someone and she is a huge fan.

Can you please tell me the best/most important/ your favourite scenes from each book please? She absolutely adores Harry potter and I really want to get this right for her (and don't have time to read the books or watch the films before her birthday now).

Thank you so much 💐

Eg book 5, a teeny Umbridge (little old lady in pink), Fred & George on broomsticks and peeves floating, with the quote "giver her hell from us Peeves"

I'm sure she will love it. It's an incredible gift!!

Happy to check your photos once you've decided, to confirm right ones for each book.

I'd suggest adding Peeves to one of them, as he was (to all the fans mass disappointment) completely written out of the films.

Ooh that's a good idea, definitely add peeves!

I would love to see the scenes they shot with Rik Mayall as peeves.

Also, if she already has the books are you buying her a new set? If so, find out what House she is (she will deffo have a preference) as they do House colours versions of the books too.

My favourite bit from the 3rd book where Harry realises it was him and not his dad he saw across the lake.

In fact, that is my favorite bit of the entire series.

same! Give me chills

I didn't realise they did them in different colours, I ordered just a normal box set and it arrived today 😔 that would have been nicer, although ds isn't a harry potter fan so probably wouldn't know what house she is anyway.

Is this Peeves? Which one do you think I should put him on? I'll be doing all 3 areas on the book as different scenes I think so I can definitely put him on one of the smaller sides.

I really appreciate the help. I vow to order myself the books and read them this year.

No no a normal set is fine of course! Just there's so many different sets now.

So what I'd do is look at stills from the new Hogwarts Legacy game for Peeves as this will at least show what JKR had in mind for him. Alternatively, if anyone on here has purchased the illustrated version of book five it may have a pic of him.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 15:30

Actually, here's rhe scene from the new game. I'd tweak it to add the text and Umbridge, too.

This would be a great one to do, which book is this one from?

Sorry I have absolutely zero knowledge at all.

redskydelight · 17/02/2023 14:41

Well no - because clearly some people do like it. I also don't like cushions, but that doesn't mean that no one should sell those either.

But OP is not creating fan art for mass sale. She's creating something as a bespoke gift for one particular friend. It would be worth her while, before she puts a huge amount of time and effort into creating something, to check whether this is something that her friend will love and cherish, or whether it's something she'll politely thank her for whilst her heart sinks.

Really?

Even If I hated Harry Potter with a passion, if someone gave me a gift such as this that they had put so much time, effort and talent into; I’d be an absolute blubbering mess on the floor blown away at the generosity of the gift.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 16:40

Or this one js even better!!

Some people are just killjoys

Some people are just killjoys

thoughtful gifts are only thoughtful if the receipient actually likes them.

i would absolutely appreciate the time and effort that had been put into the gifts, of course I would. Particularly if it was from someone who didn't know me desperately well, as in this case. But I'd then put the books away, and feel guilty about doing so, because I didn't actually like them.

Not sure why it's being a killjoy to not want someone to spend hours creating something you don't actually want. The opposite probably.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 16:49

But the recipient likes Harry potter.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 16:49

In fact she "loves Harry Potter.....is a massive fan"

Therefore this sounds like a perfect gift.

crochetmonkey74 · 17/02/2023 16:51

It is a perfect gift. Its a very niche thing to only want the exact images from your own head.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 16:56

Anyone who had images in their own head would have likely had them wiped when they saw the movies anyways. Its hard to retain that initial imagery when you have 8 movies filling it in.

Those people don't watch the movies!

I hope the OP's intended recipient loves the books. They sound like they will be amazing.

But "likes Harry Potter" does not mean "will love any gift with a Harry Potter theme". In the same way that a painting of people playing golf will not necessarily be a great gift for someone who loves golf.

I like Harry Potter (the books; I haven't watched the films, as explained above). I would hate OP's gift (sorry OP). I have no interest in HP themed stuff.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 17:12

I adored the books. I still watched the movies.

redskydelight · 17/02/2023 17:17

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/02/2023 17:12

And your point is? Mine is that different people like different things.

And that maybe OP should check that her recipient will like the gift before investing time in creating it.

I'll stop posting now because this is basically a variant of the conversation about whether a gift is for the benefit of the giver or the recipient. Which I already know produces polarised views.
