If the Aliens come

So reading about an unidentified aircraft being shot down again. I know it's probably Chinese aircraft but I'm wondering what the world / MNers would do if Aliens do in future arrive ? I personally think we aren't evolved enough to comprehend contact with another species. It should be kept hidden if there is alien life. We spend a lot of time fighting and destroying each other for small bits of land. I hope if it is friendly Aliens they cease trying to contact and wait for another few hundred years.

I'd be embarrassed tbh, the way we treat each other, the earth and the animals on it.

AutumnCrow · 13/02/2023 09:52

I'd think it was a helluva day to quit drinking

viques · 13/02/2023 09:55

I think they will come from a more advanced civilisation who have realised that war and aggression is pointless. Shame their advance scouting party decided to fly over the US ……………

I would presume they have more brains to realise if they are ruining their own planet (us = earth) they should not plan on invading another (us trying to live on Mars and ruining that one)

What benefit would they get from visiting us?

Then there is 'typical aliens coming here taking our jobs' daily mail readers

They could just be scouting but yes if I was the Aliens I would turn back and wait for another few hundred years.

"What benefit would they get from visiting us?"

some people think it's good to experience new cultures. And a change is as good a rest etc.

I think they're ill advised to visit during half term though.

Although I suppose it's as good a time as any to drill into the earth's core.

Presumably you're picturing little green men as opposed to something we wouldn't recognise as alien. They are welcome to try governing properly.

ichundich · 13/02/2023 10:14

Don't you think it's a bit of a coincidence that all these objects were found over America? I'm more convinced that China, Russia or Elon Musk are behind them tbh. Also can't fathom the thought of an impeding alien invasion after all the crap we've had in recent years - Brexit, Covid, war, climate change.

TomatoSandwiches · 13/02/2023 10:17

I honestly half think they've been here already for a good while and we've been actively desensitised since the 50s give or take a decade or so due to our lack of sophistication and intelligence.

Well, that's what I'd do if I was a superior being who had stumbled across this planet our species.

Exactly, I expect we're in for a well deserved telling off, or a
"We'll take it from here, bye fuckwits"

To be honest all the shit over the last few years I really wouldn't be surprised if they did show up.

That's true if they are an advanced civilisation it's highly likely they would be able to stay hidden. I also think we are nowhere near evolved to comprehend having contact with another species or if ever. We are a very tribalist species once we get the technology to travel to different worlds we would destroy and occupy , humans aren't peaceful.

Makes sense. Humanity is likely to have annihilated itself by then, for one reason or another.

Might as well start with a clean slate. Also by then the atmosphere might be perfect for them with no terraforming necessary.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/02/2023 10:29

I thought they were already here and walking amongst us ... doo doo doo doo...

ExistenceOptional · 13/02/2023 10:30

I would wonder how soon the supermarket shelves would be empty of toilet paper.

You'd hope any species evolved enough to have made it here would have something like the Star Trek Prime Directive and so we'd be unaware of them until such time as we developed interstellar travel.

GMOOH2023 · 13/02/2023 10:37

Well no MNetter ever answers the door so the aliens could go about their business unnoticed.

Babdoc · 13/02/2023 10:40

A civilisation advanced enough for interstellar travel would hardly fly objects so primitive that they could be shot down by the US air force!
I think we have much more immediate (and real) concerns than fretting about hypothetical aliens, OP.

Nitgel · 13/02/2023 10:40

we need a common enemy, might make us realise how small our planet is and starting concentrating on saving it instead of fighting each other,

Nitgel · 13/02/2023 10:41

mnetters would ask for a separate 'Alien' topic

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/02/2023 10:42

I have over 100 rolls but now you mention it ...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/02/2023 10:42

Debate would rage over whether we should 'be kind'.

But it might be confused with a baby name thread

'Can Alien be a girls name? What do you think?'

RudsyFarmer · 13/02/2023 10:43

If it were alien made then I suspect they’re figuring out how to kill us all and gat the planet for themselves. They’d be no reason to come and try and have a conversation. They’d be on an operating table being dissected before they got their opening sentence out.
