What's the weather doing in your area? Blowing a gale at my whare and everything seems to be banging and rattling.

Stay safe.

In Auckland ... blowing quite alot here. Hoping it's just hyped up! Stay safe!! X

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 05:04

@Mamaneedsadrink

Did you get any flood damage from a couple of weeks ago?

Oh goodness, just watching the news now. We are getting some amazing wind gusts.

OP posts:
Mamaneedsadrink · 13/02/2023 05:08

Nah, we were lucky. I didn't even realise it was a thing until the next day. Was a bit worried last night, but then that was a non-event. Quite windy now though.
Did you? Some of the stuff last week was horrific! It's freaking me out a bit if I'm honest 😕

journeyofinsanity · 13/02/2023 05:09

Rain and wind Auckland north shore but nothing more than a usual windy rainy day atm

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 05:13

I’m in the Western Bay of Plenty. Some rain but mainly lots of wind.

@Mamaneedsadrink glad you didn’t get flooded. I also find the wind a little bit frightening. Just listening to the news saying the cyclone is going to intensify overnight.

@journeyofinsanity hopefully it won’t get to much worse in your area.

Thinking of you, esp in Gizzie, Tologa ans East coast

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 05:21

I feel so sorry for those who are still affected from the recent floods -all that damage to crops, orchards, homes etc. and now having to deal with this!

Has the Boatie near Great Barrier Island been found does anyone know?

LovelaceBiggWither · 13/02/2023 05:24

Watching from Australia and a bit worried for friends and whanau. Stay safe everyone!

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 05:31

Looking on the positive side….

my neighbor has 5 very tall trees blocking my view and since there are not anywhere near houses, other buildings or live stock where they could cause damage, I am hoping those feckers will be on the ground in the morning😁

I’ve got 3 in the fridge 😬

Yep on top of covid too, feels like it's never ending 😑

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 05:47

@Mamaneedsadrink

Yep, sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming. I’ve also been thinking about the recent earthquakes near Te Aroha and every time I feel one I think “is this the next big one?” Although, I have just been in CC so probably just overthinking.

Auckland. Crazy 😜 here but all safe so far.

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 06:09

Gonna be a loooong night I think.
Anyone lost power yet?

OP posts:
PrairieDawn101 · 13/02/2023 06:10

Not yet. Hoping not too obviously. Just feels like another lockdown. Anxiety inducing for sure.

Totally feel you, I feel like it's lockdown again too (did last week as well). I always thought I was a really resilient person, not so sure now. I'm feeling so stressed big time 😖

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 06:17

Wow! Just had the most amazing wind gust and it felt the whole house moved! That was a little freaky.

Turangawaewae · 13/02/2023 06:22

Central Aucklander here.

Not too bad at the moment but expecting a rough night.

I'm fed up with disasters and kids off school. Feel like we all deserved a summer that never arrived. Bah.

Will give my head a wobble and get on with things tomorrow.

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 06:31

@Turangawaewae

I hear ya. Most shocking summer and it’s ok to feel fed up. It has been a very rough couple of years. It is hard on when schools keep closing for one reason or another particularly after the long summer holidays.

Hawkes Bay for me & its getting very windy here, the rain comes & goes but I guess tonight will be the busy bit & stuff is due to worsen.
I have family in Northland & their power is out (a dairy farm & milking hundreds of cows - fun) & their weather has bees really rough all day.
Our schools in this area have all decided to close too tomorrow for safety.
Stay safe Kiwis, esp the North Island ones

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 07:03

@eenymeenymineymo

genuine question but how are they going to milk the cows without power? Do they have a back up generator?

Yes I believe so - I think there are about 700 cows - but I dont know whether a generator just goes & goes (maybe diesel powered).
It would certainly add to their stresses of the weather, fences washed out & probably a lack of grass/feed from all the rain. Farming life eh?

onelostsoulswimminginafishbowl · 13/02/2023 07:29

I'm in Central Otago and sorry to say that we have had a cracker of a summer.

I really feel for anyone that's been hit with the awful weather, you guys have had a really shitty summer. Hoping you all manage to catch a break soon.

shiningcuckoo · 13/02/2023 08:00

It's been ok at the Top of the South too. No wind or rain here yet. It's very still.

BigCheeseSandwich · 13/02/2023 08:06

Kia ora from Whakatu. Wind is picking up but very mild compared to you guys hunkering down up north. Kia kaha, thinking of you tonight Aucklanders.
