What's the weather doing in your area? Blowing a gale at my whare and everything seems to be banging and rattling.

Stay safe.

I’m in Wellington. I think we have had the calmest, least windy day of the entire North Island. One for the record books!

I do think we might feel the effects a bit more tomorrow.

Stay safe everyone.

goodnightkiwi · 13/02/2023 08:23

Glad to hear that it has been a lovely calm day for some of the country.

The rain is getting heavier and more persistent here in the Western Bay of Plenty and there is no let up with the wind gusts. Probably doesn’t help that I live on a hill so it really feels a tad rocky.

Hopefully it won’t get too much worse overnight.

Central Auckland here too. The rain is definitely getting a bit wilder, but all ok so far. Some of my colleagues have had power outages but none here just yet (touch wood). Hope everyone is OK.

Good morning everyone

how was everyone’s night? You and your whanau safe? Just seen that a National state of emergency has been declared. I have never seen that before.

SueblueNZ · 13/02/2023 20:32

I'm in Auckland and it has certainly been blustery, not particularly wet.
We battened everything down and thought we had prepped really well. However, we still lost a roof off a shed.
Yesterday was rubbish day and (foolish!) neighbours put their bins out - during a state of emergency!! Now there are four or five wheelie bins strewn down the street, with the contents covering the road or flying about.

Chocolateteabag · 13/02/2023 20:33

We have family in/near Hawkes Bay - they've sent some scary videos
Landslides everywhere and lots of trees/branches in the rivers
They are currently blocked in on the farm (but at least have the means to dig themselves out)

It does seem to be never ending obstacles for them at the moment

Hope you are all safe and it all gets sorted out soon xx

ComfortablyDazed · 13/02/2023 22:59

I have friends and family in Hawke’s Bay, including elderly - none of them are replying to texts or answering phones (going straight VM). It’s really worrying, as they’ve been told to evacuate.

In a couple of cases, we have got in touch with HB Civil Defence Emergency Management to ask them to do welfare checks.

Some of the footage emerging from HB is incredible - homes submerged up to the roof.

Rain and wind Auckland north shore but nothing more than a usual windy rainy day atm

@journeyofinsanity thank you, that's reassuring, my mum is in mairangi bay. I was wondering how it was, but not up for 3 hours on the phone!

my god daughters house was flooded in the big flood in January. (Henderson way).

stay safe everyone.

bloody hell, I hadn't appreciated it was that bad. FMD

have you heard from any of your family/friends yet? If not I hope you do very soon 🤗

journeyofinsanity · 13/02/2023 23:26

@AlmostSummer21 I'm not far from mairangi bay. I've been out and about and not seen any damage at all so I think it is isolated damage around here. So sorry for those who have been hammered

pnutter · 13/02/2023 23:32

My son is in Wellington. Says its calm . But not quite the nz summer he bargained for as he was caught up in Auckland last few weeks. Stay safe everyone

I'm in Hawke's Bay. We're on a hill so lucky that we are out of the way of the flooding, but some of the lower part of the town has not been so lucky and half of the next town along is being evacuated through fear of imminent flooding.

South of Napier is not doing so well, the substation is under water apparently and the fibre cables have been damaged too. I've been in contact with friends there through text ok, but it's a bit intermittent and they can't use their mobile data to access anything - one was saying that all updates are coming through social media but they can't see them. They've been told to evacuate to higher ground, but are waiting at the moment. The pics of Eskdale and parts of Hastings underwater are crazy, I'm really hoping everyone is ok.

Feeling for everyone further up north too. We all deserve a break!

Popetthetreehugger · 14/02/2023 00:34

Hi all , I’m in a hotel in Singapore, flying to Auckland tomorrow 🤞. I hope your all ok , it’s a bit surreal for us , travel agent said it’s fine ( few days ago) but I’m not sure we should be adding to your troubles by turning up and expecting to be taken to hobbiton ! Again I hope your all safe x

Theoldwoman · 14/02/2023 01:38

I’m from HB, live in Australia now.

My brother and his family live in HB. Have messaged but no reply. Hopefully just busy!

MIL, SIL and family live near Napier airport. No word back from them. They live beside a creek too. Very worrying.

@ComfortablyDazed

ONG that's properly scary! Hopefully by the time I get up in the morning you'll have had some good news!!

stay safe everyone!! & hope all of you waiting for family/friends to get in touch hear from them soon!!

WhenItIsRaining · 14/02/2023 03:33

Where I am there is a huge tree down on pretty much every street. Flooding etc. Water has come up from under the house so we're wading through puddles. Not the greatest summer!

MrsMarkRonson · 14/02/2023 03:50

Hi from Wellington - windy, cold and raining here, but nowhere near as bad as other places - Really praying for Hawkes Bay people.
Hope everyone is alright. XXX

GreenCereal · 14/02/2023 03:59

Standard windy wet Wellington day here. Haven’t been able to get in touch with my parents in Napier all day, I’m just assuming (hoping!) they’ve headed to the hill as they’re also by a creek.

LovelaceBiggWither · 14/02/2023 04:12

Waiting to hear from my aunt and my stepdaughter. It's horrific what is happening, going to to take a long time for recovery.

Mamaneedsadrink · 14/02/2023 04:13

It's devastating 😢 💔

goodnightkiwi · 14/02/2023 04:13

For all those with family in the HB and other hard hit areas I do hope they are alright and you manage to connect with them very soon.

Thoughts also go out to the missing volunteer firefighter caught in the slip at Murawai - really hope he is found soon although it sounds like it is likely to be a recovery rather than rescue.

Take care everyone.
