What's the weather doing in your area? Blowing a gale at my whare and everything seems to be banging and rattling.

Stay safe.

This is absolutely heart wrenching but at least they are safe. Watch the short video in the article (hopefully the link works)

Thinking of everyone affected by the cyclone, and the recent flooding.

Here in Canterbury all is quiet. Just a few clouds coming down from the north, and we are expecting heavy rain tomorrow, but nothing out of the ordinary. Take care everyone, and stay safe.

GrouchyKiwi · 14/02/2023 06:54

Quite a few cell towers are/were down so hopefully you'll be able to connect with HB family soon.

MrsMarkRonson · 15/02/2023 01:07

Hi how is everyone today?

TheAustralian · 15/02/2023 07:32

Asskicking storm and now an Earthquake.

Stay safe neighbour’s kiwi neighbours

MrsMarkRonson · 15/02/2023 07:53

OMG the earthquake was so scary!! hope everyone is alright xx

magicthree · 15/02/2023 08:22

Didn't even feel it! What next I wonder ......

ComfortablyDazed · 15/02/2023 08:26

Still waiting to hear from people, and that earthquake was 😬

My friends all know I don’t get out of bed for anything less than a 6, and that was a 6.

GreenCereal · 15/02/2023 08:29

Finally managed to hear from my folks in HB this afternoon, when they went to Mitre 10 to use the WiFi. A few friends are from Wairoa and haven’t had any word from their family, I can’t believe how bad it’s looking there.

And the earthquake! Of course it had to come just at the kids bedtime too.

I am in Hawke's Bay and it has been unbelievable, we have been so lucky, a couple of trees down in the garden and our power has just returned. We had no cell phone coverage or land line working. We were reliant on the radio for updates. Cell phone came back with 'emergency calls only' this morning and we now have power and obviously internet.

The damage is amazing, bridges down, homes completely covered in water, people on their roof waiting rescue, roads completely blocked. It is going to take months/years to repair all the damage.

If anyone has family in HB and thinks I can help in any way - let me know.

The EQ was felt here but I would not think it will have caused damage here - was centred close to Wellington.

Glad you are safe, I've managed to get hold of all friends and family there but haven't asked about detail. That sounds quite traumatic tbh if you lige around there to be surrounded by such devastation. Kia Kaha Flowers

FiveShelties · 16/02/2023 07:10

@Mamaneedsadrink thank you so much, we are very grateful to have escaped without damage or injury.

I love your user name - lots of good Hawke's Bay wine has been consumed.😁

WhenItIsRaining · 16/02/2023 09:22

The news out of Hawke's Bay is unbelievable. 3000 still unaccounted for. It was a relief to see Wairoa on this evening's news as some connectivity is back but my god, they have a battle ahead. So many people's homes and livelihoods devastated. I am finding it difficult to grasp the gravity of it all. So many traumatised people who spent hours freezing on rooftops waiting for help to come :(

wejammin · 16/02/2023 09:39

My mum and dad are in Napier as part of a 4 week holiday of a lifetime to New Zealand. Finally managed to get in touch with them yesterday and they're fine but a bit traumatised, and can't get out of Napier until a flight to Auckland on Saturday. They flew into Auckland in the floods. Not the best luck!
I've been following the news out of panic and my heart is with all of you, it's awful.

FiveShelties · 16/02/2023 09:39

@WhenItIsRaining I cannot believe what we are seeing here, the damage is like something out of a film, it does not feel real but you know it is. My DH, my beautiful dog and I are safe, have power and have been so lucky.

I so agree with you. I was out of town during the terrible flooding in Tamaki Makaurau and even though I could see my neighbourhood, indeed my property! was badly affected, it didn't seem real.

Ha ha, my friend replied back from there (after 2 days so I knew something was wrong) ... " we are ok, etc etc." Then her next text was "we have wine".

MrsMarkRonson · 16/02/2023 10:01

Kia kaha everyone!
