Vinted account blocked?

Ellemeg82 · 08/02/2023 14:00

Has anyone had any experience with vinted permanently blocking their account?

I started selling on their about 3 months ago, just clearing out old clothes that me and the kids had outgrown.

I've got all positive feedback on 50+ transactions.

Then I decided to sell some converse trainers....

So I bought them last summer from Schuh, wore them a few times but they rubbed and hurt my instep so they've just been sitting in the cupboard.
I listed them on Vinted but within hours a message popped up to tell me my account had been blocked due to "counterfeit" items.

I message them, sent photos of the box and even the receipt. These are genuine converse! But they just replied telling me they were counterfeit and I couldn't prove otherwise (?!) and therefore my account was permanently blocked.

I'm upset about this as I was enjoyed making a few quid whilst clearing out my wardrobes.
Seems unfair to permanently block me without warning.

Anyone had this happen and did you get your account back?

This happened to a friend, not on Vinted, but on another on-line global selling platform

It's despicable how these platforms hold all the power and can shut you off without warning or the ability to argue your case

In her case, she didn't get the account back.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/02/2023 15:10

Happened to me too, with Adidas Stan Smiths.

I must have done 20 or Vinted transactions as a buyer or seller, and about 18 of them had problems.

I've gone back to eBay and FB Marketplace.,Vinted is too much aggro.

unsureatthispoint · 08/02/2023 15:26

Oh, and if someone reports the account on some of these platforms (which could be a competitor, a buyer trying to pull a fast one and not succeeding, a buyer misunderstanding the product, etc), the platform tends to side with the buyer and can block the account as well

Ellemeg82 · 08/02/2023 15:40

Thanks for the replies.

It's so frustrating as I'm a regular person just clearing out things from home.
There are loads of fake accounts selling fake things on there (I saw loads of fake uggs) - how do they get away with it yet a genuine person selling their old trainers is banned forever.

I have all the proof these are genuine trainers, they have no proof they're fake so why can they just block me and that's that.

Not even a warning, suspension or anything. Just permanently blocked.

eBay fees are so expensive it's not worth it for the things I'm selling. Other than the converse (which I was only selling for £15!) everything else I've sold has been under a fiver. That's why I quite liked it as I could sell things cheap but keep all the money.

Like you say, they hold all the power.

The messages to customer services I think are answered by bots as they're just generic cut and paste responses rather than answering my questions about my account being deleted.

The problem is that some people rely on these platforms in order to make a living -which is not your case as an occasional seller, but still

FB Marketplace could be an alternative if you take the right precautions (as IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads mentioned)

Ellemeg82 · 08/02/2023 19:34

I've tried messaging them but I am just getting the same automated responses.

I had a quick google and it seems this is a reoccurring theme with vinted, accounts blocked and no way to explain or talk to them as they just reply with automated messages.

I sold some genuine converse a couple of years ago. Before I posted it flashed up a message warning me that they must be proved to be genuine. I took pics of the soles and also the box. They sold fairly quickly after posting.
No problems at all

Greydogs123 · 08/02/2023 19:51

That’s very unfortunate. I accidentally sold a pair of what I thought were genuine brand sandals only to be contacted by the buyer who told me they were fake (she was very nice about it and explained why). She asked for a refund, which I gave and that was that. No bother from vinted.

I did all of that, my pictures had all the logos and labels and soles. And when Vinted asked for more pics I sent them the box, barcode and receipt. Yet they still said they were counterfeit and blocked my account.

Really unfair and seemingly no way to challenge the automated decision. Every message to them is replied with the same copied and pasted answer.

Can you set up again with a new email address? I know it’s frustrating to lose all your good feedback but may be a solution.

In the message that said I was blocked it said something along the lines of if I do that they'll know and just block the new account.
I don't know if that's true or just a "threat" to deter.

Yep I had the exact same thing last week, I've had my account for 4 years atleast and sold many things along with buying I haven't used or sold on it for a few months and had a notification saying my account has been blocked as someone reported my account for suspicious activity 🙃 there really are some lowlifes out there and vinted are even more assh*les for doing it to people that are genuine... I mean it's spammed with fake accounts and fake stuff. I tried messaging but no response up to yet and not feeling hopefully on the response anyway. Like I've got hours of wasted time uploading stuff on the piece of 💩 platform. Vinted actually used to be good now it's run by totally bum wipes. Ah man I'm so angry 😠 & worst thing is I think they block our i.p address so we create new accounts same will just happen. I'm off
Officially icially done with them wish therw were more sites

Sorry to hear it's happened to you too.

It's frustrating when you can't even speak to a human being about it at Vinted. After several bot automated responses I've given up.

Shame as it's good being free to sell and makes selling low value items worth it.

I messaged them 4 days ago and just got a reply last night. Go to help and message from there it will give you an automated message shortly after it should say did this solve the problem try clicking no and it will send them a message saying I still need help ( just don't write anything else that's all you have to do) someone read the message but totally just blanked it so I copied and pasted my first message basically saying was it a mistake etc... had another automated response had to do the same again with clicking still need help and last night i got a reply saying " thanks for the information I've sent your account for further investigation, we will message you with an update"... Still not feeling to hopefully but atleast a response was given. Some of the agents on there are real a**holes sometimes but sometimes you can be lucky to catch a good one. I'll keep you updated on the outcome

Yes exact same happened to my teenage son. He was selling some of his branded clothes he's grown out of.
So annoying and didn't get anywhere with vinted.
i set up an account using my email and he's using that.

Unicorntastic · 11/02/2023 19:23

This is why I withdraw any money instantly as I dont trust them! I mainly buy on there though.

anyway, Poshmark is coming to the UK very soon!

I understand they have to be vigilant with counterfeit items but I can't understand why there are loads of fakes and dodgy sellers on there and yet genuine people selling old trainers or clothes even with proof of purchase get blocked and then have no chance to even appeal!

I've tried several times to email them and have had the same automated response each time so I've given up.

Looking at the trust pilot reviews seems this happens to a lot of people...

Hi did you get resolved or can you still not use vinted?
I had £360 pending in my balance from sales tht I’d posted and had my account blocked without vinted even asking me about it or proof just blocked me because I’m pretty sure some salty person falsely reported me because I wouldn’t accept there offer! Vinted said from a third party they had suspicion tht I was selling counterfeit goods when iv sent them all the proof like you did and I still haven’t heard back from them think it’s disgusting tht they can just block you and then ask for proof after! It should be the other way round now iv lost my products and the money I had pending!!

Hi, I didn't get my account unblocked but I was able to login to withdraw my balance after a few days.
Of course if it's a pending balance you have then you'll have to wait until all those items are received by the buyers before you can get the money out.
They do let you log in to get the money.

But it's impossible in my experience to contact them and I've given up on trying to get my account unblocked now.

I'd advise anyone selling on vinted to not let too much money build up in their account as it seems they do block people without any warning for multiple reasons.

It happened to me. Sent a message to helpdesk, provided screenshot of original transaction. They unblocked after 2 days....

P4ulap · 11/03/2023 13:53

I’ve just had my account definitively blocked but I have no clue why?
I was trying to buy something but it wasn’t working so I contacted customer support asking if there was a problem and this is the response I got back…

Vinted account blocked?
P4ulap · 11/03/2023 13:56

Definitely no malicious activity on my end! Myself and the seller were in contact about the item but it was all very pleasant, she was new to vinted too and neither of us knew what the problem was, which is why I contacted customer support!!!
