Vinted account blocked?

Ellemeg82 · 08/02/2023 14:00

Has anyone had any experience with vinted permanently blocking their account?

I started selling on their about 3 months ago, just clearing out old clothes that me and the kids had outgrown.

I've got all positive feedback on 50+ transactions.

Then I decided to sell some converse trainers....

So I bought them last summer from Schuh, wore them a few times but they rubbed and hurt my instep so they've just been sitting in the cupboard.
I listed them on Vinted but within hours a message popped up to tell me my account had been blocked due to "counterfeit" items.

I message them, sent photos of the box and even the receipt. These are genuine converse! But they just replied telling me they were counterfeit and I couldn't prove otherwise (?!) and therefore my account was permanently blocked.

I'm upset about this as I was enjoyed making a few quid whilst clearing out my wardrobes.
Seems unfair to permanently block me without warning.

Anyone had this happen and did you get your account back?

They don’t have a way of knowing who you are if you a) use a different email, b) use a different name c) use different financial details eg your partners bank account.

Just had this happen to me, my account is blocked for selling counterfeit items? Errr I bought the nike trainers in question from a Nike store loool. .

Vinted is not the best selling site - the first post and I get blocked.

Not the best start.

Crimsonripple · 10/06/2023 18:52

I've been on Vinted for less than 24 hours and they blocked my account. No email or contact telling me why, I just couldn't log in! I'm only assuming they didn't like the converse trainers I was attempting to sell!!! Why not send an email or just decline that item from selling? I'm really pissed off because I'd just starting purchasing some pieces and sold some other items. I really hope they respond to me because my converse are genuine!

If your account has been blocked then it is deactivated. You can contact them by clicking on "help" in the app but in my experience it's pointless as the messages are just cut and pasted from automated bots, no one actually listens to you. I never got my account unblocked. It's since happened to my friend as well and Vinteds customer service is non existent.

I've had the same issues. Just opened my account last week to sell DW's boxed asics running shoes that were unworn (too small), some addidas trainers worn a couple of times but too small and some crocs (also too small). After a couple of days I logged in to see if there was any activity and I was informed my account was definitively blocked (for counterfeit items (the asics still had labels attached). I really don't understand how they will grow the business, if they do this. They would be better off saying they take no responsibility for items sold not being of accurate description and just go on feedback of seller, like ebay do. I will not be using the site again, so they have lost me as both a buyer and seller.

Sartre · 15/09/2023 11:07

They didn’t block my account but they wouldn’t let me list a designer belt MIL bought me despite it definitely being authentic. I think they do it because it’s too much hassle for them to deal with if someone is selling counterfeit items.

Mcanchr · 15/09/2023 14:47

Surely most items are a label. Definitely most sports goods.

Mcanchr · 15/09/2023 14:49

Don't know how your allowed to sell anything with the rules they set. I don't even know where to buy counterfeit goods. The shops I go to just sell the real thing.

bigman001 · 02/10/2023 19:52

I've recent started selling old designer pieces i dont wear anymore, been blocked once now again blocked, all items i sell are years old no fakes or moody stuff but still blocked all labeling to shown, do they have robots who do their checking???

Dappadoo · 06/10/2023 15:00

I was blocked yesterday they blocked me in Aug for using commercial pics blocked for a week so I removed them all got back on now the blocked me saying I'm selling commercial items and they have already warned me and if they look I'm not I sell clothes and jewelry all my own pics waiting to her back asked what items they were they are pathetic there's loads of pics on there of the Internet and copies don't see where they are coming from boils my pee 🤬

andjustlikethisorthat · 08/10/2023 21:50

Did you ever get your account back op?
I've been blocked for listing something they say is a fake but it isn't and I've even sent in my receipt. I keep going round in circles with them. So frustrating

I am so glad I found this post on Google. I thought I was the only one or a select few people to get ‘banned’ from Vinted for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

I have had an account for months. I’ve refreshed my wardrobe by selling my old stuff and bought some lovely jumpers and jackets for winter.

I logged in the app yesterday and got a very strange message about ‘suspicious activity’ and basically called me a fraudster!

On all of my sales I have uploaded between 10-15 photos with the labels and logos etc. No issues at any time. I haven’t sold anything for a few months but bought a jacket last week. I logged in to leave feedback and make sure the seller got paid but I couldn’t get past the first screen as I had been blocked.

Then there’s the customer service when you try to address it. Well, there actually is none. You get a computer generated response that says they won’t be changing their decision, following some bizarre “standard process” and then signed off “Good luck!”.

This stance, and their business model, is as utterly flawed as their algorithm or whatever broken system they use to decide if someone is a ‘fraudster’!

I was irritated by this, but I’m now pleased Vinted have cancelled the account. I have no desire for them making money off me any longer. I am just more concerned what other business practices they have with processing my data. Clearly, their systems are faulty and I do worry how they store and process data! I cannot even see my own data in the app as I am banned from it! Something is awry. I signed up several other people too - but they’re also now questioning how their data is processed.

Best wishes to those who have / had an account. If you still have one, be careful as your account could be next.

jolouise · 01/11/2023 20:18

I just got my account blocked for suspicious activity too. I don't sell items, only buy and just ordered a new coat. I asked if I'd still get my coat or get a refund and they sent a rude response without answering my question! Will stick with ebay from now on.

rggbb · 01/11/2023 23:22

That sounds about right. I got a reply last week to say they made a mistake and reinstated my account and they hope I wasn’t too inconvenienced.
I haven’t tried logging back in so I don’t know if they did. I deleted the app after their initial rude response. Bought and sold hundreds of pounds I won’t be any more with them!

Sorry late seeing this.
No I didn't get my account unblocked. I went round in circles and kept getting the same responses from them. They weren't interested in what I had to say so I just gave up in the end.
Shame as I liked buying from Vinted but just use eBay now.

I must be one of the few that got my account back after I sent in my receipt and numerous photos of the item in question.
It's definitely made me very wary now though.

W0tnow · 05/11/2023 08:37

Yes! 1st attempt to sell LV handbag. Said it was counterfeit. It wasn’t.

Yes I went round in circles with vinted and couldn't get my account unblocked. I bought the converse from Schuh. Showed the box, receipt - even my bank statement showing the purchase! They just kept telling me they were counterfeit and that was their final response.
I would warn anyone selling anything branded on there to be careful as even if you have proof they don't listen to you and your account may be blocked.

It's not necessarily legit use of the legislation, but if this happened to me, I'd be tempted to do a Subject Access Request on them and say I wanted to invoke my right to a review of automated decision making under GDPR.

Whilst it may not work to fix the issue, it should at least break the logjam of their non-responses.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/11/2023 12:25

I suspect some of their automated responses, i.e. blocking for selling counterfeit goods, are actually to do with some companies only selling via approved retailers or some such. These companies probably threaten the likes of Vinted with legal action.

Mcanchr · 06/11/2023 14:48

I would not bother with them. If they don't want your business telling us things are counterfeit when they are not, I really don't know how they will stay in business. I sold my trainers and other bits in the end on Facebook marketplace and got a better price than the suggested list price on vinted. At the end of the day I saw vinted advertise, thought I would try them out, they blocked my account on first listing, I removed app from phone and moved on. Their loss not mine.

NuttellaAndPuppyLover · 06/11/2023 16:16

What happens to your cleared balance if your account is blocked? I've had two warnings (one for fake item and one for using a screenshot from a website to show the price) but the actual acc was not blocked. I've been building my balance and was hoping to withdraw next month (around £250) but I've just panicked and took it all out now! Still need to know what would happen. Any ideas ?

andjustlikethisorthat · 06/11/2023 19:44

@NuttellaAndPuppyLover Even if your account gets blocked you can still view and withdraw your balance.
