I know this has been discussed before but I am sickened by the thought of the latest rumours surrounding his love life. 19 years old? Just so wrong!

Yes I understand that but surely he'd have a longer term showmance with one person rather than 10 romances with 20 year olds each year!! It's really not a good look and is very poor PR, if this is what it is.

I'm sure other contracts are available, including babies! Different strokes for different PR/lifestyle needs I guess..

thebellagio · 07/02/2023 15:00

the power inbalance is what makes it creepy.

At least when he was choosing his girlfriends from the latest Victoria Secret catalogue he was choosing girls who had already "made it" in the sense that they had achieved their own global fame and money (e.g. Giselle, Bar Rafaeli).

But the idea of an almost 50 year old multi-millionaire with global fame dating a 19yo who until a year ago was still in school is what makes this particularly icky

Like most women my age (38), Leo was THE celeb crush but now I find him so creepy that he's completely unattractive.

I just can't imagine being 19 and having satisfying sex with a 48yo man.

He's not your average man though!

I'm going to be honest here. I reckon the 19 yr old is holding the power

If he is gay, what's stopping him from coming out? Genuine question. I've no idea whether he is or isn't. 15-20 years ago I could understand but the world is so different now and he is beyond merely established as an actor and financially. He's not fighting for leading man roles anymore in heterosexual romances. I'm sure the media/ film world wouldn't explode in his face and tbh, dating teenagers isn't a great look on a man nearing 50 so reputationally, he's not really protecting himself well.

Exactly this. ^ Leo going with girls/young women much younger than him - now 30 years younger than him - is just gross and grim. Everyone I have spoken to thinks it's vile. I have always liked Leo, and think he's a good actor, and seems like a nice, caring, affable, and friendly guy. Very likable. But THIS side of him is just really off-putting. I have been talking to half a dozen women this morning about it, aged between 18 and 77, and they all agree it's gross. Even my middle aged DH and my middle aged brother think it's creepy, and they would never be attracted to a 19 year old girl/young woman. We both have children older!

Whether Leo IS gay and these girls/women are beards, or whether they are genuine 'relationships,' it is still gross. If he wants to use a young model as a 'fake girlfriend,' then FFS go for one who's late 20s or older, not fucking 19! 28-30-ish is still young, but is less nasty and creepy.

As has been said, he is nearly 50, and has had a very successful career, and is highly respected as an actor, and to some degree a writer and producer too. So him coming out (if he IS gay) would do him no harm IMO. If he IS dating all these models as beards to try and convince people he is not gay, it's not working, because with each fake staged romance he has with these models, I am convinced more and more that he IS gay. Why can he not go more than a few weeks without a young gorgeous blonde model on his arm?

Also, as a few people pointed out who I was speaking to, the young women always look the same, the 'relationship' never goes any further than just dating, he never lives with them, he never gets engaged to them, he never marries them, they never have kids, and they always stage the same 'riding around Los Angeles on city-bikes' pics where they give each other a kiss (like you'd give your nan,) to 'prove' it's a real relationship. And then they have a little mini break on a boat and make sure they stand next to each other and hold hands for a few seconds, while a few paps are there, to take some pics of the 'happy couple.' Then a 'source' tells the press he is besotted with said beard girlfriend.

No-one is convinced. NO-ONE. Whether Leo is with these young models because he is gay (and they're beards,) or whether he just can't grow up, and can't hold down a serious relationship, he needs to STOP. It's a really bad look, he is looking seedy and a bit sad, and even his own die-hard fans are facepalming and rolling their eyes now. Surely Leo must KNOW he is being judged harshly/badly for this weird practice of dating young models, no-one believes the 'relationships' are real, and he is looking creepy and seedy.

Someone close to him really needs to have a word with him, and tell him what everyone else is saying, and what they are thinking. A close friend, his dad, his mother, maybe his really good friend Kate Winslet. But Leo needs to stop this. It's repugnant. As a few posters have said, imagine if it were a 19 year old girl/young woman dating a man of almost 50 years old in real life/normal life. Most people would be (understandably) repulsed and disgusted.

I imagine it is just a convenient short term arrangement that both parties are fully aware of.

picklemewalnuts · 07/02/2023 15:12

I'd be hugely relieved if he was gay, and these young women are in full control and understanding of the situation.

I mean that's practically respectable!

LivesinLondon2000 · 07/02/2023 15:21

I think if he is gay that it’s really sad that he feels he can’t just come out.
Given all the progress we’ve made with gay rights, marriage etc.
Would it really make that much difference to his career? He can still play the leading man roles - he is an actor after all…

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/02/2023 15:28

I can't think of one openly gay male lead who isn't pigeonholed into effeminate roles.

Richard Armitage
Ian McKellan
Rupert Everet
Luke Evans

And that's just the Brits. There are lots. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. But it doesn't happen all the time.

evemillbank · 07/02/2023 15:30

He's turning into Jack Nicholson

MermaidEyes · 07/02/2023 15:32

ArcticSkewer · 07/02/2023 14:11

I'm really surprised more of you didn't know this. It's openly hinted at over the last twenty years plus of newspaper stories, hardly speculation by this point, more open secret.

It's just PR for the latest models, who cares beyond that.

This. Both parties know exactly what they're getting out of it. Groupie/gossip websites are full of the stories of Leo struggling to,er, 'finish' with even the most beautiful of women.....

LaurieFairyCake · 07/02/2023 15:33

It's obviously wrong

I don't give a crap about 'consenting adults' - it's a loathsome and exploitative power differential
🤮🤮🤮

No. He wouldn't be able to continue playing leading straight men. How many openly gay men are doing that?

I'd say Rupert Everett does mainly play gay characters.

I would put Rupert Everett in « plays the gay best friend » territory.

Mellymoon · 07/02/2023 15:36

She doesn’t look 19 though. I do think he might be gay though- giselle was the only partner he’s had that’s had any hint of a curvy womanly body..this latest one of you cropped her hair she would basically look like a prepubescent boy 🤢

Pretty certain that’s over. But they definitely weren’t out when those rumours were flying. Or RA wasn’t, at least.

Depressingly, Rupert Everett has said his advice to young gay actors would be 'stay in the closet'. He feels that coming out killed his career. In America, at least.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/02/2023 15:37

He's played other things. And TBF he always played a range.

And yes, Richard is gay. That's the only reason he's not married to me. Honest.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/02/2023 15:39

ArcticSkewer · 07/02/2023 14:05

It's also a bit naive to say it wouldn't be a problem if he came out.

Considering how many non famous male actors are gay (ie most of them!) there aren't very many famous ones. Of the famous ones, how many play leading man roles with female partners?

'Most' 'non famous' actors are not gay. Where do you get that from?

SlicerAndEcho · 07/02/2023 15:39

Because Hollywood knows that women want to fantasise about hot leading men when they watch movies, and they won't do that if the leading man is openly gay. That's been the case for decades. The movie industry is notoriously homophobic.
