Candy stripe bedsheets

Brontosaurus · 04/02/2023 20:54

Does anyone else remember these? When I was a kid I had lovely soft candy stripe bedsheets. Mum used to wash them and put them straight back on my bed because they were my favourite.

I think they were brushed cotton, and the rainbow stripes were narrow and in soft pastel shades rather than super bright.

I'm trying to find some online in king size but nothing looks quite right. All too bright or with thick chunky stripes.

Has anyone found anything like this? A bit of a blast from the past, I know, but they were so comforting and I could do with that right now.

I am reminded of these when I go to see my dad in care home. There blinds are just like them. My nan and mum had them. They were so soft.

I reckon they all came from the Damart catalogue.

@OhhhhhhhhBiscuits I found those too - the colours are fairly close but the stripes are much wider than I was thinking of. I appreciate I'm being fussy!

Have you tried Ambrose Wilson?

WildRosie · 04/02/2023 21:37

I think they are flannelette rather than the usual polycotton. I have one or two pillow cases.

Killerfail · 04/02/2023 21:38

They were lovely, cosy sheets, this thread has taken me right back to my early childhood.

I have some! Vintage 1980's probably? Still use them - they are lovely and snuggly and very nostalgic. Brought them back from my PIL house when we emptied it.

Yes, I remember them as being thinner too.

I remember these and have tried to find them too. Pillowcases to match.

shinynewapple22 · 04/02/2023 21:44

I haven't seen them for sale recently but I also had these as a child.

Lostinthecoop · 04/02/2023 21:47

We had pink, blue and yellow and they were also repurposed to make into shepherds outfits for the church nativity. My parents still have them kicking about as painting sheets. (My mum went all matching dorma bed linen in about 1986 😂).

MrsCarson · 04/02/2023 21:56

My Gran had them. Candy striped flannelette sheets back in the 70's I loved them.

karmalama · 04/02/2023 21:59

My Nan had yellow floral flannelette sheets, I loved them so much

Benjispruce4 · 04/02/2023 22:01

I remember!
Funnily enough I recently bought a sheet at IKEA. It’s white but has the same feel and reminds me of those warm sheets every time I get in to bed.

ShowOfHands · 04/02/2023 22:02

I inherited some from my Grandma. They're on my bed right now 🙂

purser25 · 04/02/2023 22:03

Now called brushed cotton think it is the same a flanelnette. Danmart does them

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 04/02/2023 22:05

I kno what you mean. The stripes were very thin and not too close together.
It's flannel sheets we need but be careful not to buy brushed cotton. brushed cotton is only one side whereas flannel is brushed on both and that makes the difference.
When I looked for plain flannel j saw they were £££

Nope, brushed cotton is different from flannel (it's like half a flannel!)

wheeltrims · 04/02/2023 22:10

I've got one large flat sheet in this style from my parents and presumably mine for being a kid. I love it! Use it all the time the brushed cotton is so soft and lovely and they have lasted for years without getting shabby

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/02/2023 22:13

@Brontosaurus You have taken me right back..

I had a quick Google and the Damart ones are much thinner stripes than the Amazon and closer to the original. They are brushed cotton rather than full flannelette but as long as the brushed is the side next to your skin you should be golden. I suspect in these days of central heating full flannelette adult sheets may have gone to dust.

glassbottle55 · 04/02/2023 22:13

Is this the kind of thing you mean - could search for ticking stripe?

twoandcooplease · 04/02/2023 22:14

I think bedding this specific you have to buy direct from a shop rather than Amazon. I'm always miss-sold with crappy fabric not ever what I'd hoped.
Hope you find the specific one. I love a childhood recreation to make me feel cosy

dawnc27 · 04/02/2023 22:16

i still have some of these, we use them in the caravan in colder months.
they were inherited when GM died so are donkeys years old but still pretty much like new. just reminded me i need to wash them ready for the van opening back up next month!
