Costa. But if I just want a coffee, Maccies every time.

Also, this. McD’s coffee is genuinely great.

Cakeorchocolate · 28/01/2023 15:00

Costa for both.
Well hot chocolate for me. Can't stand coffee!
But recently, I'll take a greggs hot chocolate over Costa or Starbucks.

(And with o2 app, I've been having 2 a week for free for months. No wonder I've gained weight.)

Costa. There is something about Starbucks that I just can’t warm to and I don’t know what it is.

Costa. Starbucks is too strong and I always have to ask for 1 shot (but still pay for 2 Hmm).

Having said that, I'd rather a Gregg's coffee over both Starbucks and Costa!

clary · 28/01/2023 15:02

Really interesting thread! Costa is more convenient with more branches and machines in places like petroleum stations.

I love a Costa but also love a Starbucks Capp. Costa is cheaper tho and their loyalty scheme is much better. Dd prefers the veggie offering so we usually go there.

yossell · 28/01/2023 15:02

I think the coffee varies depending on the barista - even within a single chain. The Starbucks toasties and sandwiches are much better than Costas. I do find that independents make the best coffee, second only to the coffee I make myself with my Flair (the name of my coffee lever device - not my skill!)

lanbro · 28/01/2023 15:02

Neither, as an independent coffeeshop owner I try to only use other independents

zurala · 28/01/2023 15:02

Neither! Starbucks coffee is horrible. Costa have changed to their own brand non dairy milk which are all vile. I'll get a takeaway from Nero but don't like it to sit in. I go to independent cafes or Cote to have a sit down coffee.

On a related note, why are most chain coffee places dark and dingy with horrible decor? It's really off-putting. Our Starbucks, Costa and Nero are all like it. They look dirty because everything is brown.

clary · 28/01/2023 15:03

Petroleum stations wtf? That’s my phone bring Uber posh haha

lovem · 28/01/2023 15:04

Neither! Has to be Coffee#1 for me

DinaofCloud9 · 28/01/2023 15:06

Costa. I'm not a fan of Starbucks.

emmathedilemma · 28/01/2023 15:08

I prefer the coffee in Costa

JKRfan · 28/01/2023 15:08

Based on recent motorway services experiences, Starbucks produces a reliable but bland-tasting quality of latte while Costa latte can be more flavoursome provided it has been done properly and not over-extracted and made bitter.
Neither comes close to a proper 'craft coffee' shop but these are thin on the ground in the UK.

BooksAndHooks · 28/01/2023 15:08

Same, Costa for coffee but Starbucks for the cinnamon bun. Although costa savory food is better.

rabbithearted · 28/01/2023 15:09

Costa, mostly because there are more of them nearby but also Starbucks I dislike having to give my name and they usually spell it wrong though I'm aware this is a petty reason Blush

Hazelnut5 · 28/01/2023 15:11

Nero. I like Costa coffee, but I tried an almond croissant there last week and it was so dry I couldn’t finish it.

Haven’t tried Starbucks.

reluctantbrit · 28/01/2023 15:17

Starbuck's Cappuchino is just stiff and tasteless foam. The cafes are also cold and uninviting. Their cakes are dry. Unless it's at an airport I avoid them if I can.

Costa - nicer but I feel sick after a medium cappuchino. But the cakes are ok and they are convenient located for me.

But nothing beats most independent coffee shops, Luckily I am spoilt for choice in my area.

SweetPetrichor · 28/01/2023 15:18

Costa. I’ve not been in a Starbucks in a long time mind you…last time I was they had their gluten free cakes touching regular cakes with no cross contamination control so no good for eating, and I now don’t trust any of their cross contamination so I steer we’ll clear. Costa is my weekly go to when I’m in the office.

Linnet · 28/01/2023 15:27

Costa or cafe Nero. I don't drink coffee though I drink hot chocolate, Starbucks hot chocolate is not nice.

coffeeginandkindness · 28/01/2023 15:32

Caffè Nero
Other two are too milky

Yellowcoffeecup · 28/01/2023 15:34

Costa gone down hill and many places now look tatty.

I hate having to give my name at Starbucks !

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 28/01/2023 15:41

I've never had a Starbucks coffee that I've enjoyed. Tea is fine.

RDAnna · 28/01/2023 15:43

Costa - the coffee is better.

IfOnlyTheyMeantIt · 28/01/2023 15:48

Costs. For the Bakewell tarts.

Swingingonastar77 · 28/01/2023 15:53

Costa!! Although since having my Nespresso machine I would much rather have coffee at home now
