People who don't RTFT - what's the point?

BobDear · 24/01/2023 10:08

I don't know why, but this week, I've been on more threads than ever where multiple posters have replied to the OP without RTFT or even filtering to read the OP updates. And then disappear never to be seen again.

What's the point? Do you do this? Can you explain?

Do some people just go into Active Posts, read the OPs, give an opinion on the opening post and then move on to the next one? Do you consider that to be helpful? I get that you can't always read 200 posts -but filter the OPs posts for a gist of current state of play or important updates SURELY? It's not a poll.

I've been on MN for 15 years and it's always happened but never this much. Driving me mad.

Please stop.

Thank you.
As you were.

That’s a weird thing to do @Ursula82. I have been here for 13 years so that’s probably not enough though.

I’m waiting at the Doctors. 🤷‍♀️

That’s an interesting way to look at it but aren't you setting yourself up for people telling you to RTFT if the OP’s updates include info that makes your post irrelevant.

This may come as a shock, but I don't care Grin

balloontrip · 24/01/2023 11:38

Oh well this turned out the be hilarious- I do hope others RTFT for maximum enjoyment Smile

Nothing comes as a shock on MN really. 😂

There seems to have been an interesting interpretation of the Talk Guidelines by the moderators!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2023 12:18

Now (having RTFT but not at the right time) im wondering what that was about.Grin

balloontrip · 24/01/2023 12:19

Maybe this just goes to evidence that RTFT is a waste of time, bc now no one knows what was said anyway Smile

Just to clarify there is no filter option on the Android app. It's really annoying

Yep. No way of seeing all the OP's most apart from endlessly scrolling.

I think they just get too excited to answer, especially with a really long thread. I think some posters don’t know how to filter the OP’s posts as well.

In the Android App you can't filter the threads at all. It's very bloody annoying and you can't always read through pages of posts to look.

Fair enough @Ursula82 but in my 15 years here, MN has never been this lazy before. I blame Reddit.

@SunsetStrip This also. Although my favourite is when people quote a really long OP and then comment with a single emoji.

Another thing the Android app is shite at... You can't only quote a sentence etc, nope, you have to do the whole bloody thing

Isn’t that the same as the normal website? You can only quote a whole post.

If I want to just do a sentence I copy and paste and make it bold myself.

You can't copy and paste anything on the android app. Honestly guys the Android App is total shite

I hardly ever read the whole thread. Would take far too long., Whats wrong with just reading the OP then replying. If folk choose to drip feed thats up to them.

BitOutOfPractice · 24/01/2023 15:27

There was a particularly infuriating one this morning that got right on my pip. I was quite relieved when it was deleted because I wasted so much time putting right the people who had not even read the OP’s very few updates. 😬

My thoughts too!

The beautiful irony of starting a thread on something that other have started threads on or posted about many many multiples of time in the past 😂

Wouldn't that be the vast majority of threads though? Nearly everything has been posted about before. Who cares?

CallieQ · 24/01/2023 17:07

There's no point but it's a free forum and we can post how we like!

thewinterwitch · 24/01/2023 21:23

Do you know what shits me even more? People who don't even read the OP. It will say in the OP, for example, "I have a 6-year-old son" and then go on to present the dilemma with whatever. Cue "How old is you son?"

Just read one where a woman asks if it is normal to get your brain MRI results in the post. She states the result which was re non-specific changes. First few replie, vapidly state, if it's normal, no worries. It's not normal!
